How to connect a second TV to Rostelecom: 2 in 1 comfort and price

Just recently, having several televisions in an apartment was considered an unaffordable luxury, but now this can be seen everywhere. Therefore, it is not surprising that the question of how to connect a second TV to Rostelecom without an additional set-top box worries many of the provider’s clients. Therefore, especially for you, we have collected in one article all possible connection options with their pros and cons. So, let's begin.

The problem is divided into 2 parts: is it possible to connect two TVs to the Rostelecom set-top box via Wi-Fi or another adapter and how to watch another channel on the second TV from one receiver. If the answer to the first question is unequivocal: yes, then some difficulties may arise with organizing the second part without an additional prefix. But more about this below.

Please note that the instructions below will contain technical terms. So if you are not ready to wade through terminology, then it is better to turn to specialists.

Second receiver

The easiest way to broadcast to two Rostelecom TVs is to purchase a second set-top box. In addition, the cost of the receiver is not so huge: from 3590 to 4500. Or you can always rent it for 99 rubles per month.

No difficulties are expected in the future. Stretch the Ethernet cable to the required length and connect the new receiver to the router on one side and to the TV on the other. The main thing is that the router has an additional LAN port.

Please note that the provider will need 24 hours to process your request after purchasing a TV tuner. So if after the purchase you connect everything and see a black screen instead of your favorite movie, don’t be upset and try again the next day.

With a second attachment

Purchasing a second set-top box is the easiest and most reliable way to watch channels on different TVs. An additional receiver can be purchased and connected as follows:

  • At the stage of forming an application for TV connections, we order 2 set-top boxes at once.
  • We are waiting for the specialists from the company to bring them, connect them and set them up.

  • The main advantage of this method is that it allows you to watch different programs on different TVs and does not require additional settings. However, he does not exclude additional costs for the set-top box itself and the service package.

    Via RCA connector

    The cheapest way to connect a second TV to Rostelecom without a second set-top box (it doesn’t matter whether your TV is digital or interactive) is to use an RCA connector. The cost of the cable is only 100 rubles, so you don’t expect to spend much.

    We warn you right away, in this case, you will only be able to watch one channel at a time on both devices. If you are not satisfied with this option, immediately move on to the next method.

    • Calculate the distance from the receiver to the second gadget and buy an RCA cable of the required length.
    • Find the RCA connector on the set-top box; The HDMI connector must already be occupied by the cord from the main device.

    • Connect the cable to the receiver using the specified connector.

    After the connection of the second Rostelecom TV is completed, it is important to correctly configure its operation from the receiver so that the TV broadcast is stable. For this:

    • Using the remote control, set the second device to video mode.
    • If required, enter your username and password (the activation data is the same as for the main device and set-top box). These can be found on the registration sheet.

    • Confirm your entry with the "OK" button.

    And, of course, do not forget that if connecting Rostelecom TV to 2 TVs using one set-top box was successful, then you will have to use only one remote control to switch channels, enter the menu and other actions.

    Methods for connecting a second TV

    There are quite a few ways to connect a second TV receiver, but they can all be divided into 2 types:

    • Without using an additional attachment.
    • Using an additional attachment.

    Of course, the first method is considered most often, since a person does not have to purchase additional equipment. However, if you connect to one set-top box, some restrictions may appear in terms of TV viewing. Therefore, it is important to carefully study each connection method.

    PLC adapter

    If tangles of wires cause you nothing but irritation, we recommend paying attention to PLC adapters. These are special adapters that transmit a signal through an outlet. The cost of the set (receiver + transmitter) is 3300 on the company’s official website. Connecting the second (and each subsequent) TV to the set-top box via an adapter is carried out according to the following scheme:

    • Connect the Ethernet cable to the router and the first PLC adapter. Plug the last one into the socket;
    • Also connect the console and the second adapter with a cable. Plug it into the socket too;
    • connect the set-top box to the TV.

    The adapters will independently synchronize between devices. And this will save time on setup. But keep in mind that PLC adapters easily pick up signals from other devices that are in the same phase. So there are often cases when a gadget comes into conflict with neighboring equipment. But to exclude such situations, there is a special security mode (Security button):

    1. Press and hold on both adapters at the same time for 5-10 seconds. During this time, a security code will be generated;
    2. Then press the same button on each one individually and hold for 3 seconds.
    3. The indicators on the devices will begin to flash. Once the connection is established, the lights will remain on continuously.

    Standard set of equipment from Rostelecom

    Interactive television from Rostelecom is not only a high-quality live broadcast of TV channels, but also the ability to select any content for viewing via the broadband Internet: movie rental, karaoke collection, access to archives of TV shows, online games, online shopping, email, banking services, etc. and so on.

    IP-TV means maximum control over the content and viewing process, as well as unhindered access to the Internet directly from the TV screen. But for such a service to be available to your television receiver, it needs a special STB set-top box.

    Today Rostelecom has more than 10 models of such TV set-top boxes, based on different technologies:

    • ADSL – the signal is supplied via telephone cable (average transmission speed 10 Mbit/sec.);
    • PON – via fiber-optic cable (average speeds are 100 Mbit/s, but under particularly good conditions it can reach 1 Gbit/s);
    • Wi-Fi – via wireless local network (speed in the range of 25 -50 Mbit/s).

    All Rostelecom set-top boxes perform one single function - they amplify the signal that is transmitted through the global network. These are mini-computers that have their own software and individual settings, but they are only capable of transmitting a signal to 1 TV. That is, each TV in the house needs its own digital receiver.

    To connect an STB set-top box, you need to do the following, depending on the chosen method.

    Option with cable

    • go to the router settings and find the IGMP Proxy section - “Bridge”.
    • indicate the number of the LAN port into which you will install the cable
    • reboot the router;
    • lay an Ethernet cable from the router to the TV location;
    • connect the LAN cable to the set-top box;
    • connect the set-top box to the TV via an HDMI cable or a regular tulip;
    • connect the set-top box to the network, turn on the TV and make settings (in “video” mode).

    Wi-Fi option

    There are two ways:

    • you can use a USB-WIFI adapter;
    • or connect using Motorola media bridges.

    In the first case, you need to use only a device that is compatible with STB and can logically recognize Wi-Fi and LAN ports. You can also, instead of a USB adapter, buy a simple access point that can operate as a Wi-Fi client.

    However, it would be preferable to connect using Motorola VAP2400 media bridges. Additional equipment, of course, will require financial investment, but it will allow you to organize a stable and reliable connection. The fact is that the media bridge uses a rather unpopular frequency - 5 GHz, so there will be no extraneous interference in the signal delivery, and it can be transmitted over very long distances.

    Schematically, a Wi-Fi connection looks simple: the Internet enters the apartment via a WIFI router, and from it is supplied to the TV set-top box via a USB adapter. The STB device is connected to the TV with an HDMI cable.

    PLC option

    This connection scheme will be relevant in homes where there is no local wireless network. To connect PLC adapters from Rostelecom you do not need a complex circuit. The kit consists of two Powerline adapters and several short Ethernet wires.

    You will need to connect the router with one Ethernet cable to the first PLC device, which is plugged into the nearest outlet. We connect the second Ethernet cable to the HDTV and the second PLC adapter, which we also install in the nearest outlet.

    Both PLC devices will quickly and without any additional settings detect each other and independently organize a connection through the electrical wiring in the walls.

    But is it possible to connect two TVs to Rostelecom? What are the options here?

    Signal divider and modulator

    It is unlikely that the option with 1 channel on all devices will suit many users. Therefore, it would be logical if your next question is: is it possible to connect two Rostelecom TVs so that you can watch 2 different TV channels from one receiver? Yes, you can. To do this, you will need to purchase additional equipment, which, by the way, is not cheap at all, since otherwise it will not be possible to connect Rostelecom television to 2 TVs with the ability to watch different channels on them at the same time.

    First, you will need a signal modulator. Its approximate price varies from two to nine thousand rubles. Secondly, a splitter will be needed - a divider of the television signal. It can cost from three hundred rubles and more.

    After purchasing all the necessary equipment and an HDMI cable of the required length, you can proceed to the instructions on how to connect Rostelecom interactive TV to two TVs from 1 receiver:

    • connect the signal modulator to the HDMI connector,
    • to the modulator - splitter,
    • and then connect the cable to both devices.

    I want to connect 2 Wi-Fi routers to create 2 separate networks

    protected subnets
    yes, it is possible...

    Typically, the shared subnet #1 router is connected to the modem, and the secure subnet #2 router is connected to router #1

    Each router has one default route and no static routes, which then direct all outgoing traffic on router #1 to and from the modem from router #2. Without a route, subnet #1 cannot access subnet #2

    Code:

    modem ==== (wan) router [B]#1 [/B] (lan #1) —— (wan) router [B] #2 [/B] (LAN ports) — — — private systems | 192.168.1.1 192.168.2.1 V shared access systems You can use Wi-Fi on one or both routers; just set different SSID, channels and encryption codes

    When setting up the configuration (both), be sure to set a new password

    , which will prohibit Internet access to the settings!

    First start router #1 and check internet access, then go to router #2

    * Attention! * Always change router configurations using a wired connection ONLY!

    On router #1

    • set the router address to 192.168.1.1, which tells you which router you are connected to
    • .

    • set DHCP range 2-10
    • save settings
    • now configure any wifi changes if applicable
    • and change the administrator password
    • when you save this time the router will reboot and you will lose connection

    On router no. 2

    • set the router address to 192.168.2.1
    • set the DHCP range to 2-10 again
    • sets the WAN side address to 192.168.1.100 (note that this is above router #1, point (b)
    • set MASK to 255.255.255.0
    • set the gateway to 192.168.1.100
    • set DNS to 192.168.1.100
    • save the settings (which will probably cause the connection to drop due to the router address changing) just reconnect and continue
    • configure WiFi settings
    • change the administrator password and save again

    Check the connection between router No. 2 and the browser.
    Good results prove that you are getting correct routing through router #1 AND that all DNS queries are being processed. Now check the insulation; connect one system to both routers from the system connected to router #2

    ping 192.168.2.1 (should succeed) ping 192.168.1.1 (should succeed) ping 192.168.1.2 (should fail)

    from the connected system to router no. 1

    ping 192.168.1.1 (should succeed) ping 192.168.1.2 (should succeed) ping 192.168.2.1 (should fail) ping 192.168.2.2 (should fail)

    We can strengthen the security on all systems connected to router #2 with firewall rules, but let's deal with the last one...

    Onlime TeleCard

    If none of the options for connecting 2 TVs to 1 Rostelecom set-top box suits you, then perhaps you will like the Online Telecard device. Onlime TeleCard is a smart card that is inserted into the TV slot (Cl or Cl+). The kit includes:

    1. Smart card;
    2. CAM module where you need to insert the TeleCard;
    3. Instructions and warranty card.

    The cost of such a package is 3,000 rubles. All you need to do is insert the card into the module and install it in the TV. After this, you can enjoy the channels within the purchased package.

    If you have difficulties with how to connect several (two or more) TVs at once to one Rostelecom TV set-top box, then as a way out you will always have the opportunity to buy a second set-top box or use the Wink service to watch TV programs (previously “Zabava” was actively promoted ), which is available for use even on a computer to all subscribers completely free of charge.

    How to connect two routers to the same network

    Start with an existing network:

    • ISP == modem == router #1 (may or may not have Wi-Fi)

    You want to add a second router (possibly with Wi-Fi) for example

    • ISP == modem == router # 1 —— router # 2

    There are two ways to use router #2

    1. isolate all devices on No. 2 from devices on No. 1 ( i.e., without exchanging files
      )
    2. makes all devices visible to each other and supports file sharing

    For implementation No. 1;
    first find router #1 LAN address use IPCONFIG and the gateway address shown is the router address we usually see something like 192.168.X.1

    Then set router #2's LAN address to X+1, for example 192.168.2.1, connect any LAN port on #1 to the WAN slot on #2, and you're done.

    All devices on Router #2 will have access to the Internet, but nothing on the Internet will have access to Router #2, and this means that if you host any gaming service on your system, it will need to be connected to Router #1 For implementation #2:

    You need to disable DHCP in router #2 so that all addresses are managed by router #1

    Connect your computer to any LAN slot on the router log into the router using your browser and the default router address use the default user/password find the router settings disable DHCP save and log out

    Now turn off the computer and connect the LAN slot of Router #1 to any LAN slot of Router #2, leaves Router #2 WAN slot empty

    any device on router #1 will be able to ping devices on router #2 and vice versa.

    Wi-Fi recommendations

    One tool that is really useful with WiFi is inSSIDer. This helps you find the channel with the fewest conflicts in your region.

    Router #1 (if it has Wi-Fi) should be addressed first.

    When you add router #2, you can make the SSID similar to #1, but add a suffix of "2" so you can differentiate between them. .

    *IMPORTANT* Make sure that when both routers have WiFi, they are NOT using the same channels! Otherwise, you are hindering yourself.

    .

    Purchasing an additional subscription

    One of the most budget options would be to order. You will have to pay 70 rubles a month for it. If you wish, you can switch to a tariff that allows you to use it for free. Note: the function is only relevant for the interactive type of broadcasting. It won't work with others.

    You can easily connect it in your Rostelecom personal account. For a small fee of 70 rubles you will enjoy television in full. If the need for the option disappears, you can always turn it off by going to the same account.

    As we said earlier, the most optimal solution to the problem under consideration would be to purchase an additional receiver. With it, you don’t have to think about how to connect the signal to a second TV. You won't need to spend a lot of money on a modulator and splitter either. In this case, each family member will be able to watch the channel of their choice.

    A good alternative would be to use the well-known Wink service, the predecessor of which was the “Fun” program. Rostelecom subscribers can launch it from any device (TV, computer, etc.) and watch their favorite programs for free.
