Why is this necessary?
The software gives the user an interface to interact with the functions that are offered by the supplier. Large update packages from TricolorTV allow you to upgrade the receiver to use new services, such as Multiroom or Cinema, as well as correct errors that arise in the operation of the previous version of the software and make viewing difficult.
In addition, when new services are implemented, the software of the receivers may change, and a non-updated version may simply not support the functions that you want to use. This even leads to blocking access to certain subscription channels, general system lags and equipment failure. The introduction of new channel encoding also requires updated software that could withstand the increase in satellite communication throughput.
It is recommended to check for updates every couple of months. In addition, TricolorTV posts the dates of expected updates on its website - you should not ignore them, otherwise you may miss your favorite TV show one fine evening or be left without access for a couple of days (remember that calibration and new channel search can take up to 8 hours) .
Replacing the program via USB connector
It is important that the firmware of the GS 8304 receiver is not interrupted by turning off the power supply to the tuner or removing the flash drive. The procedure is as follows:
The procedure is as follows:
- Write the firmware update img file to the root directory of the USB flash drive.
- Turn on the device and make sure that any channel is working.
- Insert the flash drive into the USB connector of the tuner.
- A message will appear indicating that the download process has begun.
- After its completion, the receiver will notify you that the software download has completed.
- Remove the flash drive from the USB connector.
- Press the “OK” button on the remote control. The update is complete.
What else you need to know about manual installation
The required update file is called update.otm. When copying it to a flash drive, it is important to remember that there should not be any more information on it. There should also be no folders or arbitrary renamings. In general, manually installing an update is not so difficult, but it requires a little more time and a free USB drive. The same applies to the module, which is updated many times faster.
Even if the receiver works without failures, it is recommended to monitor updates, otherwise if the need arises for flashing, the procedure will become somewhat more complicated. In addition, it is important not to forget about updating television channels on the Tricolor TV GS 8304. The need for this arises if you want to find new television channels, after maintenance work (can be carried out once or twice a year), during the first setup, changing the frequency of certain channels.
Channels are updated using the remote control via Menu – Channel search – OK. Further, focusing on prompts from the TV screen, the process takes place virtually automatically. This action does not require calling a specialist or additional devices.
From a USB drive
In cases where your Tricolor TV GS 8304 receiver does not have a connection to a satellite dish, the software is updated from a USB drive. Before you start, it is important to format the flash drive in FAT32.
Updating algorithm from a flash drive:
- Preparing a USB drive (formatting) via a computer or laptop;
- Download the required file with the current update for your receiver model from the official Tricolor TV website;
- Unzipping the downloaded file to your computer (laptop);
- Copying the unzipped file to a formatted flash drive unchanged (files cannot be renamed);
- Inserting the drive into the USB connector of the GS 8304 receiver and turning it on (it is possible to connect the receiver directly to a computer via an RS-232 cable);
- Once the file is opened, it will begin updating automatically. The process will be displayed on the TV screen;
- Upon completion, the drive should be removed, the receiver should be rebooted and the software module should be updated;
- To do this, turn on the receiver, reinsert the same drive and start updating the module. Upon completion, reboot again.
