Modern television devices are not just “boxes” with which a person switches channels. This is a smart technique that can be customized to suit specific needs.
For these purposes, manufacturers constantly release software add-ons that are installed after purchase. This requires firmware. How to flash a TV correctly - later in the article.
Why do we need updates?
There are several main reasons why users decide to flash the system:
- Increasing the stability of the new TV device. Some TVs have so-called raw firmware, if the sample is completely new and was turned on for the first time. LG and WebOS users face this problem. All errors can be corrected using the downloaded program for the system. Having done the firmware correctly, a person will get rid of many problems.
- Increased work speed. System firmware is often used to increase the speed of the TV. Sometimes the device responds slowly to the remote control. This applies to Smart applications, changing channels, and simply turning the device on and off.
- TV firmware is an ideal way to expand functionality. Manufacturers release updates that increase the capabilities of an existing device. This is how additional programs and useful applications appear in the menu.
- Solving problems with Smart TV. If you have any problems with the Smart TV function, then perhaps the preferred solution to the problem is a full software firmware. If you study user reviews on the Internet, you can understand that the firmware helped solve many problems on the TV.
To understand the purposes for which a specific update is intended, you can go to the official website of the TV manufacturer and in the appropriate section find a full description of the new firmware version. There it will be written in detail about the advantages of the program, new functions, as well as problems that can be solved.
Appearance and design
The author of this text has always liked high-tech interiors, that is, designed in the spirit of minimalism, but hinting at the invisible presence of high technology. DEXP U40B9000H would fit perfectly into such an interior. The silver frame that frames the front panel and extends onto the side/top edges is very thin, and over time you stop paying attention to it altogether.
This is not surprising: the thickness of the side frames from the front is noticeably less than a 50-kopeck coin, about two and a half times.
We already said above that the silver frame extends onto the top and sides of the TV, and this is not without reason. This move makes the device visually thinner, highlighting the back, which is made of black plastic. So the DEXP U40B9000H seems very sleek - even though it is actually 83mm thick. On the other hand, this is not much at all if we remember that we have before us a feature-rich Smart TV with a ton of electronics inside and Direct LED backlighting. For all this “goodness” you need a place, hence, in fact, these 83 mm.
In the very center of the bottom edge there was a place for a trapezoidal protrusion, such a design element is found in many DEXP TVs. Sometimes the company logo is on the “trapezoid” (and in some models it is also illuminated), but in the case of the DEXP U40B9000H, the word DEXP is placed on the frame and does not “light up”.
The legs of the DEXP U40B9000H are very graceful - they are shaped like a wide-spread index finger and thumb. A very pleasing solution to the eye - again, in the high-tech style, in which the TV itself is made as a whole. The color of the legs is silver, the shade matches the frame framing the screen.
Overall, the design of the DEXP U40B9000H can be rated a solid A, and some members of our test team even wanted to give it a 5+. Well, it’s hard to disagree with this assessment: the model looks very attractive, there are no “harmful” elements, all high-tech and brilliant technology - which is what is required from a modern TV. It is required - but not always achieved: store shelves are full of visually “heavy” models that look like aliens from the past (despite the modern filling). DEXP U40B9000H is not like that at all; it can rather be called an alien from the future. Moreover, both in terms of design and in terms of performance characteristics (more on them below).
But the back panel, made of black plastic, is quite standard for TVs, and this is normal - after all, it will mainly be the wall that will “admire” it.
There are four sockets for wall mounting on the rear. One of them close-up:
On the left side there is a place for control keys - this is a kind of “substitution” for the included remote control. You never know what will happen to it, for example, the batteries will run out in the middle of the night. (And some people still remember the Soviet era fondly and force their children to change channels on the TV.) There is also a power connector on the left side of the case - this is a convenient option. Simply because the side location of the connector will allow you to easily move the TV to the wall or hang it on it.
Tools for connecting the TV to signal/content sources are divided into two groups. The first includes component and composite connectors, an S/PDIF audio interface, an Ethernet port for cable connection to the network and a pair of HDMI 2.0 ports. It is worth noting that we did not expect a different version of HDMI in a 4K TV - after all, it is HDMI 2.0 that provides video transmission in 2160p resolution with a frequency of 60 Hz.
The second group is located on the right side of the TV (if you look at it from behind; if you look at it from the front, then we will be talking about the left side). It includes an antenna input, a connector for Cl+ smart cards (they are needed to decrypt the signal to access paid channels), a 3.5 mm headphone jack, three USB ports (two 2.0 and one 3.0) and two more - HDMI. The latter, in this case, have version 1.4, but there are surprises in their case as well. Thus, one of the ports supports ARC (Audio Return Channel) - this protocol allows you not only to receive, but also to transmit sound, which a regular HDMI connector cannot do (it only works for reception). The second HDMI connector supports MHL, that is, with its help the TV can receive images from compatible smartphones/tablets via MicroUSB, as well as recharge them.
Here we’ll also talk about the audio system built into the DEXP U40B9000H - it includes a pair of speakers located on the back of the TV with a total power of 14 W. We will tell you more about the sound quality and the possibilities of adjusting it below, but here we will only note that there is no special need for a home theater (or at least just external acoustics) - the TV “sings” quite well.
What is needed to flash the TV firmware?
To flash software on your TV yourself, you can use two main methods:
- Update via the Internet. In this case, you need to use a LAN or Wi-Fi signal for the update to be downloaded to the TV device. This option is the easiest and requires the least effort. To cope with the task, you just need to press a few buttons in the menu and the device will do everything on its own.
- TV firmware via USB flash drive. If it is not possible to connect your TV to the Internet (you are using an old model), then this is the only way to update the system.
To use this option, you need to find a free flash card with a working capacity of approximately 1 GB, and using a laptop or computer with the Internet, download the necessary software.
This is done on the official website of the manufacturer of the TV model that was purchased. For proper operation of the device, install the latest firmware versions. Next, the USB driver is connected to the TV to transfer the program to the TV and unpack it. It is important to know that on LG, Samsung, Toshiba, Sony and Phlips devices, you do not have to worry about updating the software. If you go to the menu and click on the button that starts automatic updates, the device will perform all the necessary actions independently.
Software update via menu
A quick and easy way to update the firmware is to go to the menu and configure the installation from the remote control. The operation will take no more than 10 minutes, and the operator will only need to press a few buttons.
Procedure for flashing the TV firmware:
- On the remote control you need to press the Smart TV button and find the installation shortcut.
- Next, click on “software update”.
- The next step is to “search for available updates.” When all possible options have been found, you need to select “download method via the Internet”, select “update”.
- The user agreement will appear on the screen. They agree with it and give confirmation for downloading.
- While downloading, you can use the Internet or watch TV channels without any problems. At this point, the software will begin downloading.
- On some models, for example, Philips smart TV, a reboot will be required.
- After turning on the device, the program will automatically begin installing the software. The final stage is to reboot the system.
After this, you can use all the innovations that have become available with the new firmware for the TV. Updating the firmware is not a difficult procedure if you follow the instructions.
Where is the model number?
To prevent the firmware from ruining the device, you need to find out what benefits it will bring. The user may not benefit from system updates. To study the nuances, you need to find out the model number of your TV device.
The information should be on the back panel or in the technical documentation. By entering this number in the search on the manufacturer's website, you can find a complete guide to updating the system and study the necessary characteristics that will be presented to the user after installation.
If all the parts fit, you can download the update via the TV menu without a doubt.
How to flash a TV from a flash drive
This method is the safest than the previous option, since before downloading the program, you can study all the necessary characteristics. But this one takes more time to cook.
To update the system, you will need a USB flash drive with approximately 1 GB of free memory. The method is convenient if you cannot connect your TV to the Internet.
Instructions:
- First you need to decide on the exact version of the TV model. This way, you will be able to select the appropriate firmware for a specific TV device. To do this, you need to use the number written on the back of the TV. You can also find it in the technical documentation.
- You will also need information about the already installed firmware. To obtain data, you need to press “house” on the remote control and select “install and configure software”. Next, click on “information about already installed software.” In the window that appears, read the necessary information.
- Next, you need to insert the flash drive into your computer or laptop, go to the manufacturer’s official website, and enter the model of your TV on the search page.
- When you have found the software you need, confirm the license agreement and download it to your personal computer or directly to a flash drive.
- An important point is that before connecting to a TV, the flash drive must be formatted in FAT 32 format.
- The USB drive is connected to the device, and the archive with the downloaded firmware is unpacked.
- The download process begins. It may be automatic, or you will have to use a preliminary request for action permission.
After installation and complete flashing, the TV will automatically reboot and operate in normal mode. It is advisable to save the firmware on a flash drive so that you can install it next time if problems arise.
Before installation, you need to learn a few simple tips:
- It is advisable to download updates only from the official websites of manufacturers. Otherwise, there is a risk of damaging the TV device. On third-party resources, a virus can be inserted into the TV through the firmware, which will take it out of working order or significantly slow down its operation. The response to the remote control in this case will not be 1-2 seconds, but 5-10. For modern generation TVs this is a very long time.
- You should never turn off the TV during the firmware process, as the equipment will become damaged and you will have to take it to a service center to install a new motherboard.
- If the light from the flash drive goes out during installation, you cannot remove the USB drive. As soon as the power is restored, the process will continue and the download will continue without damaging the TV.
- If you receive an error message while updating your system, you just need to start over. This is no cause for concern.
Updating TV software is a fairly simple task that anyone can do.
All the main functionality of the TV is in its firmware. The multimedia capabilities of the device directly depend on the current software. Manufacturers periodically release updates, adding current tools, services, etc. Some users have serious problems with the software update procedure. So, let's find out how to update the TV software on our own.
Why do you need flashing?
TV equipment manufacturers strongly advise against ignoring official updates. And there are a number of good reasons for this. Timely flashing of the TV increases the stability of its operation and eliminates all or at least most of the vulnerabilities that are typical for Smart technology.
In a good half of cases, all models that have just appeared on the market have crude software that works with glitches and errors. Most often, owners of new LG and Dexp TVs encounter such problems. The basic factory firmware has not changed for years, and the models begin to freeze, “think” for a long time, or even periodically turn off. The only panacea in this case is to update the software on the TV.
The second point is the speed of work. Manufacturers try to optimize the software as efficiently as possible, which reduces the time it takes to complete both basic and more advanced tasks. After updating the TV, channels will begin to switch faster, and applications will become noticeably more responsive.
And the last thing is the expansion of functionality. Software developers are constantly adding and improving their services. TV manufacturers, in turn, make sure that their equipment has an up-to-date platform for working with both third-party and their own services.
Advice! You can find out exactly what changes the flashing will bring on the brand’s official website. The “Technical Support” section describes in detail all the nuances of the software: new functions, solved problems, elimination of specific vulnerabilities, etc.
Types of Applications
When choosing a program, you need to know that they are all divided into three categories:
- recommended (those that are beneficial to the manufacturer and, accordingly, are installed by default);
- social (the applications most in demand by society at the moment are also built-in for sale);
- custom (the same programs for individual needs, selected and installed independently).
Almost all applications have a geographic marker. That is, in Russia some programs are available, but in European countries this list looks different.
And thirdly (and this is the most important thing), all widgets are:
- Paid (payment required to start downloading);
- Free (downloading is possible without money);
- Shareware (download and installation are free, but you need to buy content).
Firmware methods
The easiest option is to invite a specialist from a local service center to reflash it, but this service costs money, sometimes quite a lot. In a good half of cases, this procedure can be performed independently.
- via the Network (“over the air”), via Wi-Fi or LAN protocols;
- TV software update via USB.
The first method is the simplest and least labor-intensive. To implement it, just press a couple of buttons, and the device will update the software automatically. Flashing a TV from a flash drive is noticeably more difficult, but if the TV is not connected to the Internet, this is the only option. Let's consider both methods in more detail.
Firmware via menu
Updating the software through the menu, that is, via the Internet, will take 10-15 minutes at most. The procedure is approximately the same on all models. But on some, the names of menu items may change. For example, BBK refers to updates as firmware, while other brands stick to the strict, common name.
The sequence of actions is as follows.
- Press the Smart-TV button on the remote control and go to the “Support” section.
- In the menu, select “Software Update”.
- The system should start searching for all available firmware.
- Then the current version of the software and download methods will appear.
- Click on “Update via Internet”.
- A user agreement will appear that you must agree to.
- We wait for the update to complete and reboot the device.
Sometimes when flashing the TV's firmware, it may freeze or reboot. This is standard procedure and there is no need to worry. If it does not turn on after the update, it means that the device needs time to install large files.
Firmware from USB drive
If the TV does not have a network connection, then updating from a flash drive is the only option. To do this, you will need a standard USB drive with a capacity of at least 1 GB and a PC with Internet access. Some updates, especially for premium Sony and Toshiba models, take up more space, so it's best to have a spare disk.
It would also be useful to find out the current firmware version of the TV. It is listed in the “Software” section in the “Setup” or “Installation” menu items.
The procedure is given below.
- We go from the PC to the official website of the TV manufacturer and enter the TV model in the search bar.
- In the results, look for a line containing the phrases “Software”, “Updates” or “Firmware”.
- Click on the desired item and study the software. The version must be younger than the one already available on TV.
- Download the firmware files and copy them to a USB drive.
- We connect the flash drive to the TV.
- In the TV menu, find the “Software Update” item and go to the “Update via USB” section.
- We agree to the user agreement and wait for the firmware to finish.
- Reboot the device.
Some manufacturers, for example, such as Supra, archive their updates when downloading from the official website, so you may need additional software for unpacking (WinRAR, 7-ZIP, IZArc, etc.).

Useful tips
Download updates only from the official websites of equipment manufacturers. Amateur firmware is often unstable and can be infected with malicious code. While updating the software via the network, do not turn off the TV or remove the plug from the socket. A failure in the firmware procedure may result in a trip to the service center.
If any errors occur, you should reflash the TV again.
Modern TVs are not just devices for broadcasting analog and digital television. Hidden inside each TV is a small computer on which you can install applications, play media files from USB devices, and so on. Each computer has its own operating system, which the developers are gradually bringing to perfection. Therefore, users should periodically monitor the release of new operating system firmware and update their TVs in a timely manner. And it doesn’t matter what company your electronic friend is - LG, Samsung, Sony, and so on.
Broadcast standard
Before you start setting up digital television, you will need to determine which broadcasting standard is appropriate to use: it can be cable, satellite or terrestrial format. Since most modern TVs are already equipped with built-in receivers and decoders, you may not need to buy additional equipment. For a cable connection, you must purchase an access card and modulator from your provider and pay a monthly subscription fee.
The antenna is placed outdoors towards the broadcast tower. A cable is laid from it, which connects to the TV. For satellite television you will need to purchase a special dish and decoder. All digital broadcasting standards reproduce high quality broadcasts, reaching Full HD and 3D.
To watch interactive television you will need to install a special player. There are a variety of free IPTV applications on the Internet. By downloading via Wi-Fi and installing it directly on your device, you can watch your favorite TV shows comfortably and with various additional options (not just viewing becomes available - you can stop the program at the moment of interest, and also read information about it). Now developers are presenting players for different operating systems.
Another possibility is to connect several devices to digital television using a LAN cable.
Why update your TV firmware?
Users often ask themselves this question. And now I will try to convince you that updating the software is mandatory. And here is a list of reasons:
- Improving the stability of the TV.
New TV models are often released with “raw” firmware and gradually developers eliminate the emerging bugs and errors. - Increases the speed of the TV and reduces response time.
- Adding new functionality.
New applications, new features, new possibilities. I don’t think there’s much need to describe here. - Solving problems related to Smart TV.
You may encounter a situation when you want to watch an interesting video using the YouTube application, but it does not launch. This is where updating the TV shell to the latest version will help.
Are you ready to upgrade yet? If you don’t know how to do this, then read the article to the end.
How to update the TV firmware?
Of course, if your TV is connected to the global Internet, then there are no problems. You just need to check the box in the “Settings” menu next to the “Auto-update” item. Or we saw a pop-up window asking for a firmware update, clicked the “Update” button, waited for the process to complete and you were done.
It is much more difficult to update the shell firmware if your TV does not have access to the Internet. But don’t be alarmed, it’s not that complicated, you just need to follow the instructions.
The only available tools we need are a USB flash drive and a computer with Internet access. Then we proceed step by step (I will show everything using the example of the LG 42LB629V-ZM TV):
1) First, we need to find out the TV model and software version.
- We take the remote control from the TV.
- Find the “Settings” button and press it once.
2) For further work, go to a laptop with Internet access and download the latest firmware version.
- We go to the official website of LG.
3) Insert a pre-prepared USB flash drive into the USB connector and prepare to install the new firmware.
- The USB flash drive must be pre-formatted with the FAT32 file system.
- Copy the “LG_DTV” folder to a USB flash drive.
4) Update the firmware of the TV operating system to the latest version.
- We insert the USB flash drive into the TV.
- As soon as the TV detects a new device, it will immediately prompt you to update the software version. All you need to do is click the “Run” button and wait for the update process to complete.
That's all! Once the update process is complete, the TV will automatically reboot. Before this, do not turn off the TV yourself. The USB flash drive can be removed from the TV and the files on it can be deleted.

Method 1 – Via the Internet
This method is relevant for TVs with Smart TV. For others, I recommend moving to the next section of the update from a flash drive. Everything is quite simple here:
- “Software update” (if this item is missing, it means you most likely have problems with the Internet, check its availability, and also reboot the TV and router):
- “Update now” (sometimes this item is called “Online”):
- The TV will start checking for updates, and if there is anything, it will display a message about it:
- We agree to the download and wait for the process to complete. Afterwards the TV will reboot and start working again.
Attention! Never turn off the TV during the update. Otherwise, you will have to use a manual update via a flash drive.
Occasionally there is a need to update to an older firmware version - in this case, updating via USB will help again.
Audio system
At first glance, it may seem that a 14-watt audio system consisting of two speakers is not enough to adequately display the audio portion of the content. But this is actually an unfounded assumption, since the sound of the DEXP U40B9000H is very good. Firstly, we have five modes at our service: “Standard”, “Theater”, “Music”, “Speech” and “Dead of Night”. We don’t recommend stopping at “Standard,” otherwise you’ll really get the impression that it would be worth buying a couple of external speakers to pair with the DEXP U40B9000H.
In our opinion, the best option for everyday needs is “Music” - even if you are not currently listening to tracks from a flash drive, but are watching a movie. “Speech” is suitable for talk shows; in this mode, voices and intonations are transmitted with maximum clarity. In the “Theater” mode, it’s good to watch some philosophical films, where the main essence is contained not only in the picture, but also in the dialogues - the effect of presence is manifested. Well, “Deep Night” is good because it “cuts off” all sorts of loud effects. That is, you will hear the meaningful dialogues of action movie characters without any problems, but the explosions will be muffled. This is all so that your wife/husband/bedmate does not wake up.
As with the screen, these standard modes are just the tip. Because there are several options for deeper settings. For example, a five-band equalizer - by playing with the scales, you can achieve noticeable bass, although the DEXP U40B9000H does not have a subwoofer.
The already excellent picture is complemented by sound enhancement technologies from the American company dbx. These are, so to speak, the “monsters” of television sound who have been improving television audio systems for more than 20 years, since 1984.
So, the technology package integrated into the DEXP U40B9000H is called dbx-tv and includes three options. The first is Total Sonics: it is responsible for increasing the volume of sound, which is especially important in thin LCD TVs, where it is physically impossible to install large speakers.
Total Surround has approximately the same goals - the sound becomes more spacious, and sometimes it seems that a home theater is connected to the DEXP U40B9000H. But it’s not there, which means the technology really works. True, you shouldn’t use Total Sonics and Total Surround separately from each other - they should be activated together.
Finally, the third technology is Total Volume. It has two modes: the first is “Deep Night”, which we already talked about above; the second is activated in a different place, where all three “improvers” from dbx are collected. So, this second mode is intended mainly to eliminate sound fluctuations, for example, when watching a TV series that suddenly changes to advertising. That is, you are half asleep watching something calm and peaceful with a high volume so that the voices of the characters can be heard - and then bam! - shouts in the style of “BUY OUR TIDE POWDER” accompanied by upbeat electronic music. To prevent these advertising screams from leading to a heart attack, Total Volume is activated - the music and words from the advertisement are automatically muted.
In general, we can summarize that the sound of the DEXP U40B9000H is excellent - we already reported this at the very beginning of the subsection, and we will not be too lazy to repeat it. The sound quality matches the quality of the screen - and this is a compliment to the audio capabilities of the model.
Method 2 – Via USB
Since you are in this section, it means you need to do something more serious - either roll back to the old version, or restore the TV. Occasionally, people come here who simply do not have a Smart TV or Internet connection. The best way to update your Smart TV as standard is see the previous section.
- The required firmware from the site.
- A flash drive that can accommodate this firmware file.
I would like to immediately draw attention to the numbering of the firmware. The higher the number, the newer it is:
- Go to the support section of the Samsung website, select your model and download the required firmware version:
- Format a flash drive in FAT TVs that are familiar to us may not understand NTFS:
- Copy the firmware to the USB flash drive and run this file. The file is an archive, so we will be asked to unzip it directly to the root. What we do:
- We wait for the archive extraction process to complete, and after that we remove the flash drive from the computer and insert it into the TV:
- We turn on the TV. Go to the “Support” menu:
- Software Update:
- Update now:
- A message will appear indicating that you are trying to search for firmware on the flash drive. We agree with this:
- If detection is successful, you will be prompted to update the TV. We agree and wait for the process to complete.
Screen
The “face” of a TV is, first and foremost, its display. An analogy with smartphones suggests itself: no one, in general, cares whether a smart device has a beautiful body or not, if it comes with, sorry, a lousy screen. The same can be said about TV. However, I want to praise the screen and, as a result, the image quality of the DEXP U40B9000H even more than the excellent design of the case.
A resolution of 3840 by 2160 is, as people say, “something with something.” No separate dots or “notches” in the fonts – everything is as clear as possible. The image resembles a picture from a glossy magazine printed in a good printing house. But the picture from the magazine will be small, and in the case of the DEXP U40B9000H we are talking about 40 inches of high-tech “gloss”. It is very difficult to convey the impressions of this screen with photographs, but we will still try. Envy:
After such a picture, I somehow don’t even want to remember the characteristics expressed in numbers (everything is already clear), but for the sake of order we will still present them. The maximum brightness level reaches 300 cd/m2, which is quite high by TV standards, the contrast level is 4000:1, and this is clearly above the market average. The DEXP U40B9000H is suitable for the role of a monitor for a set-top box or desktop: the response time does not exceed 8 ms, there are no loops in dynamic scenes.
The settings reveal six main picture modes, namely “Standard”, “Dynamic”, “Natural”, “Theatre”, “Game” and “Sports”. It is difficult to say which mode is the most optimal - probably each user should choose for himself. Or activate one or another option depending on the type of content being viewed. Although the same games look good in Standard.
However, these six modes are just the tip of the iceberg. The DEXP U40B9000H provides dozens of settings to suit every taste. So you can “lick” the picture and adjust it to your tastes for almost hours. Sometimes, by the way, this is no less fascinating than actually viewing the content. Although, perhaps, this is the spirit of gadget lovers speaking in us... Here are a few photos with settings options:
The measurements generally agree well with the observed subjective picture. To test the DEXP U40B9000H, we used a proven tool, the X-Rite i1 Display PRO calibrator, and three options that affect the image.
The color gamut of the TV remains wide regardless of the mode; in most shades, except for red tones, it covers the sRGB and Rec. 709, which means all color information is reproduced correctly in most recordings. In the coming years, Ultra Definition formats will appear on the market, which have a wider color gamut, but even then, you will need to try to find a recording for which the DEXP U40B9000H’s gamut is “not enough.”
Standard mode is the TV's out-of-the-box settings. This is the mode most people will likely use their TV in, changing only the brightness and contrast. The gamma setting in this mode is slightly raised, which gives a slight loss in dark scenes, but makes the overall picture a little more attractive and bright. The color mixing is good, only at maximum brightness (which is extremely high and simply not needed in real rooms) there is a slight imbalance with the brightening of red shades. The color temperature goes into cool shades at low brightness values, but the situation returns to normal at medium levels.
If in the “Standard” mode we turn off all sorts of dynamic “enhancers”, we will see a much more natural gamma, which only in the lightest tones goes to even lighter values, worsening detail. In practice, this is practically unnoticeable, and this picture quality mode is optimal for watching movies, especially in the evening, when resolution in the shadows is important. This setting does not affect color temperature or gamut.
In general, everything is excellent with the image as such and with its customization options. By the way, Direct LED backlighting plays a special role in achieving such image quality. And, of course, hats off to the developers for using not just a 4K matrix, but a very high-quality 4K matrix. Displays of this resolution - they also come in different varieties, and the DEXP U40B9000H uses a very cool model.
How to download the firmware?
This is especially true for the second method. Those who were unable to download their firmware do this:
- Go to the website www.samsung.com/ru/support and enter the exact model of your TV:
- Downloads and manuals:
- Download the latest software with the highest number (USB type):
You can now transfer the downloaded firmware to a flash drive for updating using Method 2 described above.
Modern television devices are not just “boxes” with which a person switches channels. This is a smart technique that can be customized to suit specific needs.
For these purposes, manufacturers constantly release software add-ons that are installed after purchase. This requires firmware. How to flash a TV correctly is further in the article.
Download widgets for smart TV
Assortment of widgets on the site
For Sony and LG, visit the page https://smarttvnews.ru/widgets/lg-sony-philips/ with an interesting description and a large assortment.
Menu for selecting widgets
Depending on the TV model, there are instructions for installing applications, each of which includes a list of channels in digital and HD quality.
All applications are conventionally divided into 2 types - developed for programs from individual manufacturers or universal.
Popular manufacturers of smart TVs are Samsung and LG.
Download programs for smart TV
With the help of smart, you can easily create an assortment of programs and applications to your liking. Many programs will increase the functionality of your television broadcast: 1. YouTube. 2. Ivi.ru. 3. Lookatme.ru. 4. Tvigle.ru. 5. Skype. 6. Gismeteo. 7. WebCam World. 8. Smart IPTV.
There are specialized programs available for individual models depending on the manufacturer.
Samsung offers to install an application with Flash support, a service in English Explore 3D, Movie Search and Easy POOL.
LG also took care of the full leisure of owners of “blue” screens and recommends installing DriveCast, 3D World and Skylanders Battlegrounds
You can install all applications through the official website, filtering them by polarity, or read a detailed description of each.
- An important point is that before connecting to the TV, the flash drive must be formatted in FAT 32 format.

List of devices that support Windows 10 and updates
Greetings! This universal article will focus on how to update your TV. First of all, we are talking about updating the firmware and Smart TV. But you may mean something else by this. I suggest you get down to business!
Attention! All TVs are different. It is impossible to write detailed instructions for all models in one article. Therefore, look for analogies or look for the exact procedure for your specific model.
The steps are shown using Samsung TVs as an example. We have a separate article for LG and others.
- A message will appear indicating that you are trying to search for firmware on the flash drive. We agree with this:
- If detection is successful, you will be prompted to update the TV. We agree and wait for the process to complete.
Review of the DEXP U40B9000H TV. Ultra-clear 4K in Russian
The average consumer probably thinks that choosing TVs is best among the models of well-known foreign brands, while domestic companies seem to have nothing to respond to their market colleagues. But if you take a closer look, in the “firmament” of the Russian market you involuntarily pay attention to DEXP. This company belongs to DNS, which is one of the largest digital retailers in our country. However, what is much more interesting to us is that DEXP’s assortment currently includes over fifty TV models! Moreover, among other things, they offer devices that are certainly flagship by the standards of 2021 - with 4K resolution, Smart TV, and excellent design. In general, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to personally evaluate one of the company’s top models – DEXP U40B9000H.
Contents of delivery
As befits a TV, the DEXP U40B9000H does not boast a wide range of equipment. Only the reasonable and necessary minimum is available: a warranty card, an instruction book, a remote control and two AAA batteries. “TV gourmets” can also connect a webcam purchased separately; fortunately, the DEXP U40B9000H has enough USB connectors. Yes, and the support for peripherals is in perfect order; nevertheless, this is a representative of the class of “smart” TVs.
Design
The DEXP U40B9000H looks objectively five points - it’s immediately clear that this is not an ordinary representative of the middle segment, but a real flagship. If you don’t pay attention to the “DEXP” nameplate, you can easily think that this is a model created by LG or Philips.
The silver frame is very thin, so you hardly notice it when watching a video. The edging that extends to the ends of the TV acts as a “reducer” - visually the model seems very thin; against the background of light stripes, the black rear of the device seems to be lost. Although the total thickness of 83 mm is already a very decent result for a TV with a screen that uses Direct LED backlight technology.
The company logo is located at the bottom center, and just below it is an element in the form of an inverted silver trapezoid, one of the visual “anchors” of the DEXP U40B9000H.
The legs of the TV definitely deserve a compliment; the elegantly made metal elements are painted in the same tone as the front frame of the model. It's funny that LG likes to use legs in an extremely similar design in its top-end 4K TVs.
In the lower right corner, right under the frame, there is a “peephole” for receiving the remote control signal. The infrared sensor operates with a coverage of 60 degrees to the front and 30 degrees to the right side.
The back part is completely made of black plastic, here on the right side are all the TV connectors, on the left is a set of keys, and at the bottom you can see the slots for two speakers with a total power of 14 W.
It is convenient that the power cable is routed to the side; if you wish, you can install the TV close to the wall - of course, if you do not use the rear connectors, but only those located in a vertical row on the right. The build quality is high; in this regard, the DEXP model is not inferior to its foreign analogues. Note that the company has established the production of televisions in Russia using the efforts of our fellow citizens. We suspect that this made it possible to significantly improve customer-executor communications and eliminate identified errors as quickly as possible. The latter would be especially difficult with Chinese contract manufacturing.
Interfaces and functionality
To perform direct television functions, the DEXP U40B9000H offers component and composite connectors located on the rear side of the model. The usual antenna input is located a little further to the right, and above it there is also a connector for Cl+ smart cards - if you need to decrypt the signal to access various paid channels.
It's hard to imagine who would want to use a 4K TV to watch analogue TV, but PAL and SECAM support is still provided.
The list of digital television broadcasting standards includes DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-C for cable TV channels are confidently moving across Russia. For delayed viewing, we have the PVR and TimeShift functions at our disposal. Both, as expected, allow you to record TV content only from digital channels. Our experiments with TimeShift showed the normal operation of the option - temporary recording of content was carried out without any questions on both flash drives and external hard drives. With PVR, the situation is more interesting - the DEXP U40B9000H has an EPG (“Program Guide”) function, which allows you to either pre-select the recording of programs “within a radius” of the next seven days (that is, record a PVR video file on the media), or set a “reminder”. In the second case, you assign a specific program to the program schedule - and when hour “X” comes, the TV will automatically switch to it, no matter what you were watching before.
There are four HDMI ports arranged in pairs. The most advanced HDMI 2.0 are installed next to the analog connectors. Let us remind you that this is the most current version of this interface, a mandatory attribute of any TV with a 4K screen. HDMI 2.0 provides support for data transfer at speeds up to 18 Gbps and viewing 2160p video at up to 60 Hz versus a maximum of 4K/30 Hz for HDMI 1.4.
The remaining HDMI connectors, although not version 2.0, are also capable of pleasing. One of the ports supports ARC (Audio Return Channel), which means you can do without sending an audio signal via S/PDIF (although it is also available). As you know, by default HDMI only allows the TV to receive audio from an external source, but not send it. Therefore, when the need arises, for example, to use an external audio system with a Blu-ray player, you have to use the S/PDIF optical audio connector in parallel for exchanging audio signals and HDMI for video transmission. ARC support allows you to “kill two birds with one stone” with one HDMI cable, abandoning S/PDIF. Since we're talking about sound, you can even use the standard 3.5 mm audio output of the model. For multi-channel acoustics, this is, of course, not the best option, but for quickly connecting headphones it’s just the thing.
Another HDMI port on the TV is marked as MHL, which means it is possible to connect wiredly and display images on the screen directly through the microUSB connector of a smartphone or tablet. A profile assistant program for Opera TV is included.
Switching between sources is quick - when you press the “Input” button on the remote control, a list of available ports appears. If we talk about television broadcasting, here the choice of sources appears at the behest of the “Home” key. Tabs for media content on connected media, VOD (“Video on demand”, a small selection of video services) and Apps with almost a dozen Opera TV programs will also be available.
Internet access is provided either via a LAN port or via Wi-Fi. We checked the stated support for WPA, WEP and WPA2 encryption, the TV perfectly “made friends” with each of the three types. There are also no conflicts with routers, since the DEXP U40B9000H works smoothly with the IEEE 802.11b/g/n/ac protocols. Finally, for LAN and Wi-Fi, routers and modems with DHCP are supported, capable of automatically assigning an IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS to our TV. Which, as you understand, greatly simplifies the process of connecting the device.
There are three USB connectors available and the USB 3.0 interface is supported. Just remember that the ports on the TV provide power consumption of up to 500 mA, while USB 3.0 requires 1 A. Therefore, the latter will require additional external power. The TV passed the test for compatibility with peripherals with a bang - mice and keyboards, as well as all kinds of flash drives, were recognized and accepted for use. Moreover, DEXP U40B9000H also recognized a terabyte hard drive along with an SSD drive. In this case, of course, in both cases additional power was provided from the outlet.
Sound
The TV has two 7 W speakers, which together produce more than loud sound. For example, for comfortable viewing of a movie, a level of 30-40% of the maximum volume is sufficient.
The sound settings are in perfect order here. To begin with, do not under any circumstances leave the sound settings as they are “out of the box”. What the DEXP U40B9000H's options allow you to achieve in terms of sound quality is a striking difference from the stock version.
We will immediately please fans of fine tuning - there is a five-band equalizer, with 20 values available for each scale - from “-10” to “10”. We set the bassy 100 Hz to ten, which in this case is justified (there is no subwoofer, which means the mid and high frequencies are not “clogged”) and allows us to achieve the most noticeable increase in low frequencies.
There are five modes available among sound presets:
- Standard – in fact, the default settings. After assessing all the sound capabilities of the TV, I’d rather call this mode “Mono” - the result seems too compressed and lifeless.
- Theater – if we have questions about the theater screen mode, then the sound presets perfectly correspond to the name. The sound stage becomes noticeably wider, voices seem to gain the effect of presence.
- Music is, in our opinion, the best choice. Moderately wide stage, rich sound across the entire frequency spectrum, bass begins to appear. The sound quality reaches the “cool” characteristic if you use this mode together with the “improvements”, which we will discuss below.
- It’s deep night – we weren’t able to “unravel” this mode the first time. The logical chain led us to the fact that this is one of the modes of the Total Volume technology, which we will talk about later. The option allows you to maintain good speech intelligibility, but at the same time monitors and “cuts off” loud sound effects so as not to wake up the person sleeping next to you.
A special feature of the DEXP U40B9000H is its support for the dbx-tv technology package of the legendary American company dbx, which since 1984 has been famous for its developments in the field of improving sound on TVs. Our TV list has three options:
- Total Sonics (“Acoustics Optimization”) – This technology is designed to eliminate sound problems associated with thin TV cases and the installation of relatively small speakers in them. According to the developers, as a result, speech becomes clearer, the sound stage is formed, and bass appears. In particular, various psychoacoustic filters are used to expand and deepen the scene. We won’t argue with the announced “goodies” - indeed, activating the function allows you to achieve the stated positive effects.
- Total Surround (“surround sound”) - the purpose of the function is easy to guess from the name; its main task is to create an essentially three-dimensional sound environment. Thus, due to the already mentioned psychoacoustic filters, it seems as if the sound is coming not only from the front, but also from the sides and even the rear. In fact, this is a kind of add-on enhancement for Total Sonics - using Total Surround solo, in our opinion, does not make much sense.
- Total Volume (“volume optimization”) – the option works in two modes, one of them is already selected in the “Dead of Night” settings. Activation in the dbx-tv list means that you no longer have to constantly reach for the remote control - the system monitors and eliminates volume changes, which is especially important for “explosive” advertising. Total Volume is unlikely to be useful for watching a movie, but we appreciated the opportunity to avoid hiccups from sudden loud advertising.
Smart TV and remote control
Opera TV is used as a “smart” platform on the TV. The system may be inferior in a number of features to WebOS and Samsung Smart Hub, but it provides all the basic SMART functionality. And, most importantly, it is extremely easy to operate. Moreover, DEXP specialists clearly tried to redesign the main menu interface in favor of the fastest possible development even by the user who is far from such an advanced technology.
The main screen is a set of only two sections. The top line is “Hot applications” from half a dozen programs. And the “All applications” list, which can be scrolled horizontally. The range includes a mixture of Russian and foreign video services; domestic consumers will be primarily interested in clients like IVI, Megogo or Zoomby. To expand the list, and at the same time take advantage of other useful utilities and games, you should turn to the built-in Opera TV Store with an arsenal of applications in HTML5. The only thing we didn’t particularly like was that despite all the convenience of the YouTube client, it is not possible to select the video quality; the TV itself makes the choice based on the Internet speed.
But web surfing through the “local” TV Browser was definitely a success. The browser supports Flash, all content on sites is displayed without errors. For vertical scrolling, use the double channel switching key on the remote control. If you intend to regularly use the browser, we strongly recommend that you get a keyboard; typing from the on-screen “keyboard” is still a pleasure. Ideally, I would like that when you click the language change button, the full list of languages would not be displayed, with the default position of the selection rectangle in Russian - which may already be active.
As for the operating speed, it is quite high; we did not notice any noticeable lags from Opera TV during testing. Mainly, “thoughtfulness” in the region of 2-5 seconds can be observed when starting or exiting applications. Thanks to Smart TV, we can view images and video files from removable media, as well as play music. The system can display all supported files from a flash drive or filter it, showing only a certain type of content - say, music.
When you connect removable media, a dialog automatically appears asking you to access the contents of the flash drive. Viewing images with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and higher occurs at intervals of up to three to four seconds; zoom, image rotation and slide shows with speed control are available. While playing videos, we especially liked the quick access to the entire list of videos available on the media. Subtitle management is also available; in test files, the TV instantly recognized text dubbing. As a media player, the TV is impressive - it supports AVI, MKV and MPEG4 video along with H.263, H.265, H.264, MPEG4 codecs. You probably noticed H.265, also known as the HEVC encoding standard. Yes, yes, in the DEXP U40B9000H you can connect a flash drive without any external players and watch videos directly from it in 4K resolution. We tested videos with bitrates up to 70 Mbps and were pleased with the result; the TV copes with them without any visible difficulties. In total, about fifty videos of supported formats were tested, of which difficulties arose with only two MKV files. But DEXP honestly warns that for various reasons there may be problems with TRP, M2TS and MKV. We will have to control all the SMART splendor of the device from a remote control, perfectly tailored for such a multifunctional device. There are shortcut keys to IPTV, EPG program guide, YouTube, and the above-mentioned “hub” with VOD. The design of the remote control is ergonomic, it fits comfortably in the hand, there is even a small recess at the top for the index finger. Two AAA batteries are used for power supply.
Screen
So, we have a TV with a 40-inch screen with 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) and Direct LED backlighting. They clearly did not skimp on the matrix - it is quite difficult to describe the magnificence of the colors, even photographs are not able to convey the “wow effect” of the image. This is undoubtedly a flagship level of quality. Viewing angles are as wide as possible; with large deviations, inversion is completely absent, and the brightness drops only minimally. By the way, the maximum screen brightness is quite high and equals 300 cd/m2. The declared contrast is, to put it mildly, impressive - 4000:1.
The screen resolution is a separate story; the pixels cannot be distinguished even if you look at the display closely. Four times higher detail compared to Full HD makes itself felt and is noticeable to the naked eye. Of course, this primarily affects the rendering of the smallest objects like eyelashes - there are no “ladders” of pixels, all elements are as clear as possible. In the standard screen mode we got almost 100% sRGB coverage.
The gamma indicators are close to ideal, the average value is 2.16.
Gamma curves are also normal, with only slight overexposure in the middle section. Across the channels we see slight distortions in the highs of blue and red; these discrepancies are easily corrected by the TV’s built-in adjustment tools. The pixel response time is 8 ms – a decent level. The TV is well suited to serve as a huge screen for a computer or set-top box. In particular, we tested the DEXP U40B9000H as a computer monitor; there were absolutely no loops during dynamic images in games. We especially liked the fact that the TV, on the one hand, provides almost endless scope for calibrating the screen, and on the other hand, the matrix capabilities allow for fine tuning depending on the user’s preferences. We will not list all the options - there are too many of them, you can see the available list in the pictures. There are six “large” modes: standard, dynamic, natural, theater, game and sports. Our preferences settled between dynamic and natural - here we get the most saturated and contrasting color rendition. The standard mode is too subdued in color scheme, while the theatrical and gaming modes tend too much towards yellow-green and blue shades, respectively. The use of the sport mode is not very obvious to us due to the clearly excessive contrast.
Conclusion
DEXP U40B9000H is a worthy Russian flagship. No matter how trivial it may sound, the model represents an excellent – and perhaps one of the best on the market – price-to-feature ratio. For 29,990 rubles, this is practically the most affordable TV with 4K screen resolution, even without taking into account Smart TV and features like HEVC video support. The strengths of the model are luxurious picture quality, very decent sound, fast operation of the “smart” platform and simply a huge number of settings for all aspects of the model’s operation. The shortcomings lie purely in the area of “taste”, such as the desire to see a built-in camera or support for 3D content. If such trifles are not particularly interesting to you, the DEXP U40B9000H is definitely worth paying attention to when choosing a modern 4K TV.
