4 ways to connect two TVs to one Rostelecom set-top box

This article shows how to connect the Zala interactive television set-top box to a modem and how to configure the set-top box on the TV. A diagram of connecting all involved elements for correct operation is also provided.

This figure shows the equipment connection diagram

Figure 1 - Connection diagram
The modem is connected to a 220V line and through a splitter to a telephone line. The main telephone socket and telephone set are also connected to the splitter. The set-top box is connected to the modem in the 4th Lan port, to a 220V socket and to the TV with an RCA (tulip)/HDMI/Scart cable. The equipment comes with standard length wires of 1.5 meters. The equipment set is shown in the figure below. The set-top box includes a power supply, an RJ-45 network cable, an RCA cable (tulip), an HDMI cable and a remote control.

Figure 2 — B700 equipment set Figure 3 — Power supply Figure 3 — RJ-45 network cable Figure 5 — RCA cable (tulip) Figure 6 — HDMI cable Figure 7 — Remote control Figure 8 — B700v2 set-top box

We connect everything as in the diagram above; if the cable length is not enough, the subscriber must purchase a cable of the required length independently. After connecting, you need to use the TV remote control to switch it to AV mode (if connected with an RCA cable), to HDMI mode (if connected with an HDMI cable) and to Scart mode, respectively.

If the set-top box has not been pre-configured, then you need to configure it yourself; to do this, after turning off, press the large SET button on the set-top box remote control (third row from the top) and enter the password 6321, then press OK.

Two TVs in one apartment are a common occurrence. A private cottage can have 3 or more TV sets. 95% of modern liquid crystal and LED panels have a built-in module for receiving digital channels. And owners of old devices have to watch TV through digital tuners.

Is it possible to connect several TVs to one set-top box, how to do it and what will happen - I will tell you about all this in this article.

Problems in connecting several TVs to one set-top box

The main feature of connecting two or more TVs to watch digital television to one tuner is that the picture on all devices will be the same. In addition, the console remote control only works in the room where the device is located.

This issue is partially resolved. There are four ways to connect two or more TV devices to a digital tuner. Let us consider in detail the algorithm of actions in each case, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of the options.

Method No. 1 - directly connecting 2 TVs to one set-top box

Difficulty levelEfficiencyMax. number of TVs Price
SimpleLow2Up to 100 rub.

The only condition for using this method is that at least one of the two TVs must have an HDMI input, and the tuner must have RCA and HDMI connectors.

  1. We connect a TV device with an HDMI input to the corresponding DVB-T2 connector of the tuner using an HDMI cable.
  2. We connect the second TV receiver using “tulips” - an RCA cable.

The finished RCA cable (“triple tulip”), as a rule, reaches a length of 5 meters. If the second TV is located further away, you will have to make the interconnect cable yourself. To do this, you will need to buy RCA plugs, F-connectors and a regular coaxial cable.

Two F-connectors are installed on both sides of the cable, and RCA plugs are screwed onto them. To transmit stereo sound, you need three cables, and for mono, two are enough.

Restriction: the length of one RCA cable should not exceed 15 meters, otherwise interference may occur or the picture will disappear. However, for most apartments this cable length is sufficient.

prosMinuses
  • ease of connection;
  • practically free.
  • both TV devices show the same picture;
  • To change the channel you need to be in the same room as the set-top box.

Method No. 2 - connection via a splitter and RF modulator

Difficulty levelEfficiencyMax. number of TVs Price
HighAverageNot limitedFrom 2000 rub.

A high-frequency (RF) modulator is a device that converts low-frequency video and audio signals into the UHF range. It allows you to broadcast a channel over a long distance via cable. Please note that some terrestrial receiver models already have a built-in RF modulator.

A splitter (frequency divider of the signal from an over-the-air antenna) is connected to the output of the RF modulator to distribute image and sound to several television sets at once. Depending on the model, the splitter has from two to eight outputs, to which TV devices are connected via a television cable.

The principle of operation of an antenna splitter is simple: it evenly divides the input air between the available outputs. For example, if 12 dB is applied to the input, then the outputs of a double divider will be 6 dB, and a triple divider will be 4 dB.

  1. We connect a high-frequency modulator to the digital receiver.
  2. We connect a splitter to the RF output of the modulator.
  3. Through a signal divider we distribute the channel to the required number of devices.
  4. We plug the unused outputs of the antenna splitter with resistors.

There are dozens of antenna splitter models on the market, all of them can be divided into two large groups:

  • Passive. The received broadcast is diluted and distributed without additional processing, so the signal quality decreases as the wire lengthens. They are used if you need to connect two or three TVs to the set-top box. It will not work if the signal is weak, since the image and sound quality will suffer greatly when divided.
  • Active. They are equipped with an amplifier and do not have this drawback. If you want to distribute the picture to more TVs, then you need to use this type. Requires power supply to operate.

What's the advantage?

  • many interesting channels;
  • convenient and functional software shell;
  • unlimited possibilities for interactive interaction with content;
  • individual selection of broadcast programs.

And all this with high image quality and excellent stereo sound. For your convenience, we have placed information on all tariffs for individuals in one table:

Name

Cost including VAT (month, BYN )

You can always check prices on the official website https://zala.by/node/4623

“Interactive ZALA” eliminates the need to adapt to the broadcast schedule and allows you to watch your favorite programs exactly when you want, and also pause it if you need to leave. Or even shift the broadcast schedule back to 48 hours.

By the way, you can record the programs you need so that you can watch them later in a comfortable environment. There are also many additional features, all of which you may find useful. For example, “Parental Controls” will protect your children from inappropriate content with age restrictions.

You can connect additional packages and thereby personalize the selection of broadcast channels. A list of them can be found on the official website.

Attention: connection to the basic package is paid, the cost is 4.20 BYN for the main receiver and 1.70 BYN for each additional one.

“Terrestrial ZALA” allows you to watch digital television using wireless transmission of a TV signal from Beltelecom terrestrial transmitting stations. However, without interactive interaction with the content. Broadcasting of programs is carried out according to DVB-T and DVB-T2 standards.

Connection also costs money - 4.50 BYN for each TV receiver. And you can also connect additional packages. There are not as many of them as in the tariffs above, but quite enough to diversify the main grid.

“SMART ZALA” is a current service from Beltelecom that allows you to watch television programs and films on a variety of devices. In other words, directly through the firmware of your smart TV or through a smartphone or tablet.

This is a fundamentally different way of transmitting content and is not supported on all devices. Therefore, it is better to clarify in advance the technical feasibility of connecting it.

Method number 3 - connecting several tuners to one antenna

Difficulty levelEfficiencyMax. number of TVs Price
AverageHigh4 (no amplifier)From 800 rub.

This scheme has fundamental differences depending on which antenna is installed: passive or active.

Algorithm of actions for a passive antenna:

  1. Connect the splitter to the antenna.
  2. Connect the TV set-top box to the splitter outputs.

In the case of a passive antenna (without an amplifier), the set-top boxes are connected through a signal divider. The splitter model is selected in accordance with the number of receivers that are planned to be connected. If the broadcast power is insufficient, an active TV splitter is needed.

Algorithm of actions in the case of an active antenna device:

  • The signal divider is installed after the power injector. This is a classic option for connecting several set-top boxes to an antenna with an amplifier through an air splitter.

  • If there is no possibility of connecting the power supply at the location where the splitter is installed, then you need to purchase an antenna splitter with a voltage pass.

Please note that a conventional divider is not suitable in this case, since it will not pass the power supply. And an active terrestrial antenna without power will produce a signal of worse quality than a passive device under the same conditions.

Another type of connection to a common antenna is a scheme with a master and slave receiver. In this case, the antenna signal is fed to the input (RF-IN) of the master receiver, and then through the antenna output (RF-OUT) goes to the slave set-top box.

Lifehack! When using an all-wave antenna and an on-air TV signal, you can connect the RF output directly to a second TV (without a set-top box). Then on the first screen you can watch digital channels, and on the second - independently - analogue ones.

prosMinuses
  • TVs show different channels and do not depend on each other;
  • you don’t need to go to another room to switch;
  • up to 4 connection points without amplification.
  • Every old TV needs its own set-top box.

Zala setting up the second console

After looking through many stupid and useless forums on the Internet on this topic, I decided to make this instruction - in case it makes life easier for someone.
So I have an ADSL modem and the desire to configure it to use 2 Zala, i.e. configure one more port (3rd) for ipTv

By default, only the 4th port is configured in the modem for ipTV (Zala), our task is to configure one more.

Let's consider this issue using the example of the most common modem Promsvyaz M-200a.

Click as shown in the figure by numbers - select Advancent Setup, then click VLAN and As VLAN PVID for each Interface (figure below)

In the menu that opens, put two in place of one as indicated in the figure below, save by clicking Save, and then NEXT.

Uncheck the third Port Ethernet and save - SAVE

We select two in the VLAN index, after that the page is updated and put a tick above the number 3 as shown by the arrow in the figure. Then save - SAVE

All that remains is to disable DHCP

That's all, if you followed the instructions exactly, then port 3 can now be used for ipTv. If you have any questions about this or other topics, ask. We will help you in any way we can. Or you can describe your problems on the forum, we promise that you will receive a clear and intelligible answer in the near future. Good luck!

Method number 4 - connecting a separate tuner with an antenna to each TV

Difficulty levelEfficiencyMax. number of TVs Price
SimpleHighNot limitedFrom 1200 rub.

This method is the simplest from the point of view of organizing the display of an independent channel on each of the television receivers, but also the most expensive.

For each TV device you must purchase:

The set-top box is connected to the TV using an RCA or HDMI cable, depending on the TV model.

If you live in an area with reliable reception of a DVB-T2 digital signal, then it will be enough to use an indoor antenna device for each television receiver. Otherwise, you will have to install an external UHF antenna (passive or active depending on the signal strength).

AndreyPopov, there is analog TV (now this tariff is connected), if it is possible to have analog TV in one room, and digital TV in the second (CAM module), then this, in principle, solves the problem

But to be honest, I didn’t understand how to solve the issue with the help of “Volya Samrt HD”.

Surf, a tuner in the kitchen will not work, since the sockets (TV and 220V) are located behind the TV, which will hang on the wall, there is simply nowhere to mount the tuner. Well, buying a second CAM is expensive.

Question about TV without smart options

Can the modem be connected to TVs that do not belong to the Smart category? The answer is negative. This issue can be solved by connecting a special set-top box.

An HDMI cable is used to connect it to the TV. The set-top box displays an image on the receiver. It itself runs on Android. In this way, the TV is transformed into a kind of tablet.

Typically, manufacturers of such set-top boxes create a very convenient interface for settings. Also, the operating system of the devices is optimized for use on a large screen.

There are a huge number of such consoles in stores. There are models with different parameters and power. Some can support 4k, others cannot.

Their price tags are affordable. The top seller is the Xiaomi Mi Box 3 model, which works with 4K.

The following modifications are no less popular:

2. Dune HD Neo 4K.

Such a device is connected in one of the classic ways: via wire or Wi-Fi. Below, as a detailed example, the connection of item 4 is presented.

What is the IPTV service from Rostelecom

Interactive television is a real breakthrough in the development of telecommunications. The service offered by Rostelecom provides the opportunity to watch more channels, and in the best quality. In addition to watching films, a unique opportunity to rent films has appeared; users can also take advantage of a huge collection of karaoke and record their favorite show. This can be done either on your own media or on a set-top box if you choose a more expensive device with a built-in hard drive. By the way, the purchase of a receiver is the main condition for the provision of the service. You can connect it either independently, following the instructions, or with the help of a technician from the supplier company class=”aligncenter” width=”400″ height=”367″[/img]

Connecting the receiver

If you decide to use the interactive television service from RTK, all you need to do is visit the company’s office, buy one of two device options and pay a subscription fee. After a short time, the service will be activated, and all you have to do is connect the device. This is not difficult to do, but some difficulties may arise.

Remember: in order to use a TV tuner, you must have high-quality Internet access, connecting cables and a remote control for the TV receiver and set-top box. Cables, all kinds of adapters and a remote control are included in the kit, so it is highly advisable to check the package when purchasing.

You can connect interactive television using one Rostelecom set-top box in three ways: using an Internet cable, via Wi-Fi and using PLC adapters. It will be easier and cheaper to connect via cable, so we suggest considering this option in more detail:

HOW TO DETERMINE THE TECHNICAL POSSIBILITY OF PROVIDING A SERVICE?

1. Where can I find out the technical possibility of connecting to the service?

To clarify the technical feasibility of connecting to the ZALA interactive television service, you need to contact the Beltelecom sales service in your area. Contact information about sales services can be found on the main page of the site in the “Connect” section.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS USED, HOW TO CONNECT OR REPLACE IT?

2. Do I need to purchase equipment to connect to ZALA and what kind?

When connecting, it provides a set-top box (set-topbox or STB) for use for the duration of the contract, and, if necessary, a modem, without charging an additional fee. Additionally, to activate the service, you must ensure the availability of:

— connection points to the data network via ADSL (RJ-12 telephone socket) or PON (optical socket) with a free power outlet no further than 1.5 m (or use an extension cord) to connect the modem;

— an additional amount of network cable required to connect the STB to the modem, if the length of the cables included in the standard kit is not enough (if the television receiver is more than 1.5 m away from the telephone socket);

— TV receiver with RCA (“tulip”) connectors and/or an HDMI connector.

3. Is it possible to connect ZALA to a CRT TV or do you only need an LCD or plasma TV?

The type of TV can be any. ZALA can be connected to both a regular CRT TV, including domestically produced ones (JSC Vityaz, Unitary Enterprise ZEBT Horizont), and to an LCD or plasma panel. The main thing is that the following requirements are met:

The television receiver (TV) must have at least one of the following inputs:

— for video:

1) composite CVBS (“tulip”);

2) S-Video;

3) component Y/Pb/Pr;

4) HDMI - in case of connecting a package of high definition channels.

6) S/PDIF.

If the TV receiver only has a SCART connector, then you must additionally purchase a SCART-tulip adapter.

4. I am renovating and want to lay cables for the Internet and television in advance. Where can I see the recommended cable layout?

There is no single scheme, but there are general recommendations for creating such a scheme.

Firstly, for any connection, it is most convenient to place the set-top box close to the TV receiver, since the TV receiver is connected to the STB set-top box with an audio-video cable 1.5 meters long. It should be taken into account that the STB set-top box is controlled by a remote control, that is, it must be in line of sight.

Secondly, the set-top box itself is connected to the modem via a UTP cable, and here there are 2 options:

– the modem is installed next to the set-top box and TV receiver;

– the modem is installed in another room and to connect the set-top box to it you need to use a long UTP cable.

Thirdly, it is necessary to ensure that the modem is connected to the line (ADSL line or PON optical line.

5. Is it possible to connect a TV to STB via Wi-Fi or STB to a modem via Wi-Fi?

It is possible to connect the STB to the modem via Wi-Fi using the ZTE W200C Wi-Fi adapter or an equivalent. It should be noted that the quality of the service may deteriorate. But you cannot connect your TV via Wi-Fi to STB.

7. I decided to connect HD packages, now I have a regular SD set-top box, what do I need to do for this?

It is necessary to find out from the service center specialist the availability of technical capabilities and HD equipment. If they are available, replace the SD set-top box with an HD one, to do this, come to the sales service with a set-top box for exchange, as well as to connect HD packages.

8. Which manufacturers' modems do you provide when connecting? Can I wait in line for a modem from a certain manufacturer or with a certain feature?

Upon conclusion of the contract, equipment that is available in the sales service is issued. If you want to exchange your equipment for another with certain functions, this is allowed if the latter is available in the sales service.

9. Will ZALA work if there is a security alarm on the subscriber line?

Activation of the ZALA service is possible if there is a security alarm on the subscriber line. For this purpose, special data transmission network equipment and terminal equipment for security are used, which can be provided for the duration of the contractual relationship. Or, if additional technical capabilities are available, an alternative option for connecting to the service may be offered, for example, organizing a payphone line or a two-wire dedicated direct line (without charging a fee).

10. When connecting to ZALA, will it be possible to watch television from another operator (for example, cable) on one TV?

When you connect to ZALA, you still have the opportunity to watch television from another operator. To do this, you will need to switch the TV from AV mode to normal mode, used to watch television from another operator.

11. My console remote control (or power supply) is broken. Do I need to replace the entire set of equipment, or can I just buy the damaged part?

You can purchase the remote control from the Beltelecom sales service. The rest of the equipment is accepted for testing and/or replaced with working equipment free of charge. For equipment broken by the Subscriber, if this can be determined visually, an invoice is issued for payment.

A prerequisite for ordering the service is the presence of a positive balance on the personal account on the date the blocking begins. To order the service, you must contact the Beltelecom sales service with your identification documents or order a block from the current date yourself through the “User Account” on the website or in the “My Beltelecom” Application.

Additionally, you can order a paid one. Paid blocking is provided only from the current date, for 15, 30 or 45 calendar days. The total time of paid blocking should not exceed 45 calendar days per year. Also a prerequisite is that on the date the blocking begins, there are funds in your personal account in an amount sufficient to pay for the service.

Thus, the maximum time of paid and free blocking that you can use in a year is 75 days (2.5 months).

If you want to block the service not from the current date, then you need to contact the Beltelecom sales service.

The blocking is set for each set-top box (STB) separately.

47. In which document do you define the concept of “new subscriber?” I have a connection at one address, I wanted to organize a second one at a different address under the terms of the promotion. The service center refused me, citing the fact that I could not be considered a new subscriber.

All concepts are given in the conditions of the promotion, the latter are approved by the Order of RUE Beltelecom. As a rule, a new subscriber is considered to be a subscriber who does not have any concluded agreements for the service at the time of the promotion, and there should also be no previously concluded agreements on the telephone line for the provision of the service.

Setting up the set-top box

After plugging in the receiver, all that remains is to make the necessary settings, for which the remote control of the television receiver is switched to video mode, where all the necessary settings are made. First of all, the system will ask you to enter your account login and password - you can find this data in the registration documents. If you think that there is further configuration to be done, then you are mistaken - the system will do everything for you, and the user will only have to select one of the offered channels.

Methods for connecting a second TV

Considering the presence of several television receivers, I would like to separately discuss the possibility of connecting a second television to the Rostelecom set-top box. The ideal option, of course, is a second console, but not every family’s budget can handle such extravagance. Therefore, users have to decide the question: how to connect a second TV and use only one set-top box from Rostelecom.

This is important: if you have one interactive TV receiver, you can technically connect a second TV signal receiver, but this is only if all family members agree to watch only one channel at the same time. There is no other option for connecting and connecting a second TV, except for purchasing another receiver.

USB port and modem

Modern TV models have USB connectors. And when purchasing, people ask whether it is possible to connect a modem to a TV of this type.

Experts say that it will not be possible to directly connect this device through the specified port. The manufacturer does not provide this option by default.

But you can synchronize the modem with the TV using a router or cable.

Next, methods are proposed for the practical implementation of such a connection.

Connecting two TVs to one set-top box

If you are ready to come to terms with the opinions of others regarding the uniformity of the TV menu, you can start connecting two TVs to one Rostelecom set-top box, and you will now find out how to connect. First of all, you need to examine the receiver itself, and, most likely, the jack for connecting the HDMI cable is already occupied. In this case, you will need to use the adjacent socket intended for an RCA cable. Most likely, to watch television channels from Rostelecom through 2 devices, you will need to buy this cable. This is necessary in order to connect the second TV receiver to the set-top box.

So what should you choose?

There is no ideal choice: different subscribers choose completely different packages, but still rely on the specifics of your interests and financial capabilities. And if interests can be clarified by studying the list of channels, then our table with the most current ZALA tariffs in 2019 will help you fix your budget.

It is very convenient to track your balance, change the tariff or pause it in the new Beltelecom personal account.

How to connect a second console

Most likely, representatives of different generations will not agree to watch one channel, so you will have to visit the RTK office and ask if it is possible to connect two TVs. You will be offered to buy a second TV tuner and draw up a corresponding agreement with the provider. Fortunately, you won't have to buy another router if your device has free LAN ports, of course. You will need a cord to connect to the Internet, check the availability of cables. Further steps are similar to those you would do for one receiver. If you decide to connect a second set-top box from Rostelecom to a second TV, just remember that each TV tuner is configured for its own TV receiver.
