Why digital television doesn’t show today, the main reasons and what to do

Due to the planned disconnection of apartments from analogue TV broadcasting, the majority of the population is switching to digital television, because it is characterized not only by high-quality images, but also by uninterrupted broadcasting. However, despite the obvious advantages of the technology, problems are possible here too. Most often they consist in the fact that digital television channels stop working. Let's figure out why digital television doesn't show today.

No signal what to do

Before you begin to correct the current problem, it is worth identifying what exactly it is. The reasons are divided into the following types:

  • stopping the signal from the multiplex;
  • repair work;
  • weather;
  • equipment malfunction.

If there is no digital television signal, make sure that no maintenance work is being carried out. You will need to go to the broadcaster’s website and familiarize yourself with the schedule of maintenance and repair work. And if the problem lies in the installed equipment, you will need to determine at what level digital channels are not received - software or hardware. Perhaps the settings on the TV failed, and as a result it stopped showing. Why the channels disappeared and what to do about the reason, we will consider further.

Equipment malfunction

If the sound is intermittent or the picture quality is poor, the problem is clearly a hardware problem. In the event of a breakdown, there may be a complete lack of display of digital channels. The following may be faulty:

  • antenna;
  • console;
  • cable and all connections to it.

Let's look at each point in more detail.

Antenna malfunction

A common reason for the lack of broadcasting is the direction of the antenna towards the tower transmitting the signal.

IMPORTANT! Make sure the antenna location matches the direction in which the signal is being received.

An antenna that is located outdoors is most susceptible to damage. Frequent exposure to moisture and strong winds can damage the elements and result in no digital television signal. To identify the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Check for voltage in the power supply.
  2. Review the cable connections to devices and plugs.

If the equipment you looked at did not help identify the cause, connect another antenna and test. If the new antenna does not work, then the reason is different.

Faulty cable and connections

A common problem is cable failure. Since part of the cable is located outdoors, during long-term use the winding is destroyed and worn out, and this leads to cracks. It is important to check all cable connections for integrity. If damage is detected, the cable will need to be replaced.

Set-top box malfunction

It is quite simple to determine if the set-top box is broken - when turned on, the special LED lights up dimly or does not light up at all. If pressing the buttons on the remote control does not produce any action, then the problem is clearly with the set-top box. Replace the set-top box with another one and check the operation of digital TV.

IMPORTANT! Sometimes situations arise that television does not work due to the obsolescence of the set-top box. If the equipment is outdated, then it needs to be replaced with new one.

Poor receiver firmware

The lack of signal may be due to poor-quality firmware of the receiver itself. To eliminate this problem, it is enough to reflash the equipment again or replace it with a new one. To install a new firmware version, you need to download the new version for a specific model on the manufacturer’s official website, and then update it on the device. For correct flashing, it is best to contact a specialist.

Spontaneous reset

Situations arise when just yesterday the TV was displaying digital broadcasting, but today it says “No Signal”. It is possible that the device was spontaneously reset to factory settings and all settings were erased. You will need to go to the device menu, check that the signal is received correctly, and then start searching for channels again.

Poor signal reception conditions

A common problem with a poor signal or no signal at all can be caused by incorrect antenna placement. It must be correctly installed and directed in the direction where the tower stands. One of the reasons for poor signal reception may be bad weather conditions, as well as maintenance and repair work. It is also possible for contacts to come loose on cable connections and connections. In this case, all plugs should be checked.

Termination of broadcast

notification on the rtrs website: short-term blackouts of the television and radio signal in the Moscow region.
A possible problem with stopping the broadcast is carrying out preventive work. To find out more, go to the broadcast site in your region and view the information. To carry out test work, the second multiplex is turned off and the necessary information is collected. Soon the broadcast stops completely. Today, in most regions, broadcasting is carried out using only one multiplex package. After turning off analogue television, the ability to connect a second package will increase. If such preventive work is carried out, a temporary shutdown of television and radio channels occurs.

Repair work

A frequent case of signal absence is emergency situations requiring repair work (during which broadcasting stops). This is a temporary reason during which the signal is completely absent. After the equipment is repaired, the broadcast tower will supply a digital television signal as normal.

Weather

Another reason for a weak digital TV signal can be bad weather. Strong gusts of wind, thunderstorms, rain and snow may affect signal reception. In this case, there may be a deterioration in the quality of the image and sound, and the picture may be displayed in the form of “squares/pixels”. There may also be a complete absence of signal. In this case, you should check the signal level on your equipment. If the indicator is low, you should increase it to the maximum. It turns out that weather conditions will not affect the loss of digital channels, but only some deterioration of the signal.

Lockdown for Chelyabinsk: who will benefit from it and who will suffer?

In recent weeks, the incidence of COVID-19 in the country has been breaking all records. On October 16, the infection rate was the highest since the beginning of the pandemic - 34,303 cases. In the Chelyabinsk region the statistics are also not encouraging. Here, as in many regions, QR codes and mandatory vaccination are being introduced, and the word “lockdown” is increasingly heard in the media. Will a new quarantine be introduced in Russia and how will it be survived in Chelyabinsk - in the material on FederalPress.

Not all shopping malls will open

The owners of shopping and entertainment complexes in Chelyabinsk are categorically against the introduction of a new lockdown. According to them, everyone will go into quarantine, but not many will be able to leave it. Among the latter may be the Cosmos shopping complex.

“The sphere of shopping and entertainment complexes may not survive another lockdown. Many have not yet moved away from the one that was introduced last spring: many tenants have left, some stores have closed completely. I would really not like a repeat of that situation. Andrei Alekseev , the owner of the Cosmos shopping and entertainment complex, noted in a conversation with a FederalPress correspondent .

Celebrity experts argue about the onset of a new wave of coronavirus

The publication’s interlocutor does not understand why quarantine was needed then and what will it change now? The damage to the economy is colossal, but it will not affect the situation with the incidence of coronavirus in any way. Yes, and selective closure is “shooting sparrows with a cannon.”

“Why last time was it possible to travel on public transport, where everyone was pressed against each other, and you couldn’t go to the store. After all, we comply with all sanitary requirements easier and better than on a bus or trolleybus,” Andrei Alekseev asks a logical question.

According to him, online trading will not have a beneficial effect on the activities of the shopping mall during the lockdown period. Of course, now sales on the Internet are actively developing, but not everyone knows how and can use them. Only partial closure of stores will not help, as was the case last year, when food stores, pharmacies and some others remained open. After all, utility bills, loans and taxes were paid in full during that period, but profits were greatly reduced.

Andrey Alekseev admits that in his shopping complex he tries to comply with all regulations regarding COVID-19. Including the statement of the chief sanitary doctor of the Chelyabinsk region, Anatoly Semenov, on mandatory vaccination.

“We have already vaccinated 60% of our employees. The rest will deliver the first component of the vaccine by November 11. We are trying to follow all recommendations regarding coronavirus. Because they themselves are interested in the health of their employees and full-fledged work,” Andrey Alekseev emphasized.

A terrible thing for an artist

Director of the Chelyabinsk Chamber Theater Ilya Kolomeisky believes that the cultural sphere has already survived the last lockdown. Another thing is that coronavirus restrictions still remain: maintaining distance, special seating, mandatory wearing of masks. From October 18, the Chelyabinsk region introduced a complete restriction on visiting such places: without a QR code, you can only get in if up to 100 people gather in the hall.

“In test mode, we decided to try allowing up to 100 people to some performances. But we have purchased all the necessary equipment for checking QR codes. Therefore, we sell all tickets for popular performances, but we warn that visiting is only possible with a QR code,” explained Ilya Kolomeisky .

He also would not like to introduce a second lockdown. After all, for the cultural sphere this is a double blow: not only financial losses, but also the enormous psychological discomfort that creative people experience during downtime. For an actor, not meeting the audience is a terrible thing.

“Lockdown has a bad effect on the emotional state of actors. Creative people live for performances and meetings with audiences. When there are no performances, it’s hard for them to survive. And such people, yes, comply with all regulations and instructions regarding coronavirus, just so as not to be left without work,” explained Ilya Kolomeisky.

Lessons learned: Russian entrepreneurs complained about the disadvantages of the lockdown

Representatives of industrial enterprises in Chelyabinsk say that they are not giving in to any panic about the introduction of a possible lockdown. And there’s really no point in talking about the consequences. There simply won't be any of them.

“We didn’t stop production last time. We won’t stop you if something happens, even this time. We have orders for several years in advance. Lockdown and crisis? No, this does not concern us,” said a representative of one of the industrial enterprises in Chelyabinsk, who wished to remain anonymous, in an interview with FederalPress.

The press service of the enterprises of the Konar Industrial Group spoke about the same thing. There, during the first lockdown, the production process did not stop; work was carried out continuously.

“During the lockdown period, those office employees whose job duties can be performed without direct presence at the workplace were transferred to remote mode. Employees over 65 years of age remained remote the longest. Not a single employee was laid off during the lockdown,” the company noted.

On the territory of the Stankomash industrial park, where the main production facilities of the Konar group are located, all preventive measures have been observed since the beginning of the pandemic: surfaces are regularly treated with disinfectant solutions, hand sanitizers are installed, and employees have their temperatures taken. You can only wear a mask in the park.

Yuner Kapkaev , a professor at the Institute of Industrial Economics, Business and Administration at Chelyabinsk State University, believes that there will be no lockdown, especially in the Chelyabinsk region. A year and a half ago, the authorities were simply preparing beds. The region is now provided with everything necessary to treat coronavirus patients. It is useless and not worth scaring people with a possible lockdown.

“The people who will suffer if it is introduced, representatives of business and industrial enterprises, already understand the full extent of responsibility. People who will not suffer will only be glad to have another opportunity to sit at home. This is their mentality, this is their attitude towards work. It’s useless to scare them and say something about a lockdown,” explains Yuner Kapkaev.

But the director of the Chamber Theater Ilya Kolomeisky does not agree with him. He has friends who are responsible and hardworking. But for them, the lockdown had at least a small plus.

“People exhaled a little during that period. In our theater, work goes on around the clock: rehearsals in the morning, then shows, special events. During the lockdown, employees had the opportunity to relax at least a little,” Kolomeisky explained.

By the way, the financial reserves of business and industrial enterprises were just enough to last the length of the strict quarantine. Industrial giants practically did not stop their work. And other companies quickly filled the vacant positions in small businesses. But what Chelyabinsk can really lose with a second quarantine is the comfort of its urban environment.

“As strange as it may sound, with the second quarantine, Chelyabinsk may lose its atmosphere. In recent years, the city has been actively developing: there are places to take a walk in the evening, drink coffee, where to take the children and where to go yourself. The second lockdown could destroy the entire infrastructure, the environment, and destroy small businesses. And we, as residents of the city, will lose a lot. I wouldn't want to. After all, even such things as the comfort of an urban environment take years to develop,” explains Yuner Kapkaev.
