General connection information
Today, interactive TV is a serious alternative to cable or satellite television. The broadcast quality fully complies with modern TV characteristics, and additional functionality significantly expands the possibilities of using TV content. Moreover, the new generation of interactive television has some advantages over broadcast or cable broadcasting - better sound, better picture quality. At the same time, the cost of content is more than affordable. Given the capabilities of modern high-definition TVs, setting up IPTV on your TV makes sense. In addition, IPTV owners can use other services related to television content: recording of programs, broadcast archive, the ability to pause the broadcast, etc.
You can connect digital TV in any convenient way, each of which has its own nuances:
- via a connected iptv set-top box;
- via a router via a wireless connection;
- using special applications;
- via an Internet browser.
In most cases, connecting to a TV is done using the first two methods. The latter are suitable for various gadgets or computers.
What you need to watch IPTV
So, to view you need an Internet connection and one of the devices mentioned above, on which it will be possible to run the software for playing the IPTV stream. Such software can be a browser. Some providers create their own media portals for their clients, where, in particular, they can access broadcasts. All the user needs in this situation is just to go to the TV broadcast web page of their provider in any browser window. We will get more IPTV capabilities when playing it through special applications - players that work in conjunction with playlists of TV channels.
Features of connecting the set-top box
Connecting a digital set-top box is not much different from installing various TV tuners. The connection to the router is made via a standard Ethernet connector, and wireless setup via Wi-Fi is also available. If you wish or have some difficulties, you can use a wire and connect it to the LAN connector.
Any IPTV set-top box also has other outputs:
- AV for connecting to older TVs;
- HDMI for more modern panels;
- USB connector (usually located on the front).
To receive digital television, the TV has either an HDMI output or an AV output. The connection to the set-top box is made by connecting the corresponding wire - this completes the physical connection of the set-top box.
Possible mistakes
Frequently encountered problems are associated with a weak, unstable connection (incorrect network settings on the set-top box, Smart TV). It happens that a user mistakenly downloaded a playlist of an unsupported format. Or the player did not update in time.
It is strongly recommended to use installation files from official sources - they contain working links and virus-free applications. It also happens that a user tries to view a playlist on a PC without installed software. A software player is a must. And playlists are only in m3u format.
Setting up the set-top box
After connecting the set-top box, it must be turned on. To watch IPTV on the TV, a menu is displayed. Setting up the software is generally quite simple. There is a Setup button on the remote control; after pressing it, you must make the following settings.
- Set the clock and date in the Advanced Settings window. This is necessary to use various options such as timeshift and Video on Demand.
- For a wired connection, you need to configure a connection to the network: to do this, select the type (Ethernet connection) in the “Network Configuration” menu.
- Next, in the next tab, click AUTO (DHCP) and activate it, confirm the command by clicking OK.
- In the “Network Status” tab, check the status of the Ethernet connection.
- Open the “Servers” menu, enter pool.ntp.org. in the NTP servers field.
- Afterwards, you can configure the video by opening the “Video Settings” tab, disable the “Force DVI” item and “automatic/auto frame rate switching”. Then all that remains is to set the screen resolution parameters and set the video output mode (here you will need instructions, for example, in outdated models it is called PAL).
- Save the settings and restart the console.
In case of technical breakdowns, defects or other difficulties, the set-top box may not work correctly. If after all the manipulations the device produces errors, you can repeat the setup, read the explanation of the problems in the instructions, or seek technical support from your provider or the manufacturer of the set-top box itself.

IPTV playlists
IPTV playlists, like video files or audio tracks, are content played by the player. Only this content makes up a certain selection of TV channels. IPTV playlists exist either in ".m3u" file format or as a web address. Providers that provide clients with the service of watching broadcasts, as a rule, post playlists on their web resources with a selection of federal and regional TV channels for the relevant area. And some providers may even supply modified player assemblies (at least for Windows devices) with already integrated playlists similar to “Take and Use” products.
Provider-independent IPTV playlists with alternative lists of TV channels can be searched on the Internet. True, not all playlists posted on the Internet will work. Thus, playlists from one provider in most cases will not work if the Internet connection is provided by another provider. You need to search the Internet for fresh playlists that can be played by a wide audience of users. Freshness and, accordingly, relevance of the playlist is a prerequisite for viewing provider-independent IPTV. Free playlists, as a rule, do not last long, so it is better to download self-updating playlists. And not from fly-by-night forums, but from specialized web resources, such as iptvsensei.ru. This is a site created by enthusiasts, where you can download playlists of TV channels from Russia, Ukraine and other countries of the world for free.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to acquire alternative IPTV playlists, even if the list of TV channels in the provider’s playlist is more than enough for leisure activities. Alternative playlists can come in handy during peak times. During active load on the provider’s server - in the evenings, in anticipation of the New Year’s greetings from the President of the country and under similar circumstances - an alternative playlist may possibly eliminate problems with the broadcast freezing.
