Globo GL100 review

The dimensions of the console are 18*9*3, weight – 349 g. The body is made of plastic and metal. Supported formats: JPEG, MP3, WMA, DivX, H.264, MPEG-4. Equipped with USB and AV outputs, coaxial digital, antenna.

The set includes:

  • HDMI cable for modern TVs.
  • Cable for regular TVs.
  • Remote control.
  • Batteries.

The Globo console has a simple and convenient menu consisting of:

  • Channel editor.
  • Search for channels.
  • Media player.
  • System settings.
  • External media.

When you turn on the Globo GL100 set-top box for the first time, or after resetting the system to factory settings, the initial setup wizard program automatically starts, prompting you to perform the following actions:

  • Select the type of antenna to use. This includes the standard antenna included in the kit or a previously used one.
  • Select the required antenna power supply.

After all the actions performed, a full scan of all available channels, including encrypted ones, will take place. In the future, you can distribute channels at your personal discretion, organize them, create lists of your favorites, erase or encode an unnecessary channel.

The advantage of this receiver is the information of broadcast programs and the list of programs displayed on the screen. The receiver has functional firmware that allows you to configure and create your own channel names. There is a ventilation hole on the back and top cover of the case, which prevents the receiver from overheating.

Disadvantages of the Globo GL100 receiver:

  • The instructions are not true, which makes them useless.
  • The remote control does not support Toshiba TV models.
  • Defective models are common.
  • Be careful when changing from normal mode to standby mode. This may cause the receiver to stop turning on.
  • AC3 audio codec is not supported.

At the moment, the set-top box is not produced or supplied.

GLOBO GL30

Sufy Sufy, 01/01/2015

Advantages: 1) Pleasant menu without excess Chinese. The manufacturer can be praised for abandoning poor icons, bulky buttons and other attributes of 90s technology in favor of a laconic menu with large, easy-to-read fonts and something like tiles like in the latest versions of Windows. 2) Moderately convenient remote control, normal size. In addition, they do not have to aim like many similar devices. The working angle is very wide and does not cause any inconvenience. The buttons are a bit small, but you can use them. The central five-button ring, which switches programs, volume and provides menu navigation, is comfortable to use. 3) The image quality is decent. It's a pleasure to watch via HDMI on a 40″ TV. Of course, it greatly depends on the quality of the broadcast, but this is no longer a question for the receiver. 4) Easy setup, signal and quality levels are displayed separately

Disadvantages: 1) There is not enough 16:9 display mode with image cropping. Some channels already broadcast in pure 16:9, others in 4:3, I would like it to always be cut down to 16:9. I decided this for myself - I turned on the extension mode on the receiver to 4:3, and on the TV the cutoff mode to 16:9. All channels are now shown with the correct geometry, but some of the service information is cut off. For example, when viewing an EPG, the top and bottom lines are not visible. 2) Always sorts channels crookedly. Either he will mix up the places of the multiplexes, or he will throw a separate channel at the end of the list. 3) There are no instructions included, and some of the functions are simply implicit. For example, to delete a recorded program, you need to press the yellow button. And I found out this by scientific poking, since nothing on the remote control says this, there are no hints in the menu, and in the “instructions” there is no description of the PVR function at all. 4) Requires a fairly high signal quality. When the quality is below 50% it refuses to work - it shows for a second, then the image freezes and it feels like the receiver is not even trying to show anything. 5) Could not power the REMO antenna amplifier.

Comment: Overall, I am pleased with the purchase. The thing performs its main function, time shifts and recording work as they should, and going to the menu does not cause nauseating reflexes from the variety of buttons and icons. What else does? Let me add that I used the D-COLOR DC902HD device: this is exactly the case with the poor Chinese menu. The Globo has a much more convenient remote control - do not buy receivers with a small rectangular remote control with tiny buttons, otherwise you will remember Uncle Liao every time you change the channel. Such remote controls are included with, it seems, 90% of such receivers. Having experience communicating with them, I did not consider such options when choosing. Although D-color had higher sensitivity and less capriciousness regarding signal quality.

Setting up sharing via the receiver port

Here you must first make sure that you are connected to the Internet and have installed firmware that supports sharing. Further instructions look like this:

  1. Setting up an Internet port. If the modem or router is configured to automatically distribute parameters via a DHCP server, then you just need to click “on” in the menu. This way, automatic network settings will already be received by the receiver. If this is not the case, the parameters are registered manually.
  2. Setting up a sharing server. The receiver can support up to eight different servers or eight ports of one sharing server. Among other things, the server domain and IP address of the device from which the connection is being made must be specified, as well as the username, password, key, etc. The entered sharing parameters must be saved.
  3. After the sharing server parameters have been specified, if everything is done correctly, you can watch the channels included in the package.
  4. If the Request timed out message appears, it means that the setup or its individual elements were performed incorrectly. It is necessary to check everything again step by step, or even better, repeat the entire procedure from the beginning.

To know for sure whether the settings are correct or not, a ping is done for sharing. In the settings menu there is a blue button, by clicking on which you need to enter the ping parameters. The number of the server for which the configuration was made will be sufficient.

One of the most stable for sharing on receivers 4100c, 9600, etc. At the moment the firmware is ver.1.4.34.

Globo is a brand whose all models are popular and approved by users (gl100, 4100c 9500, 9600, etc.) By the way, gl100 also broadcasts using the dvb standard. In many ways, the functions of the 4100c, gl100, 9500, 9600 are similar to the x403p.

Connecting the GLOBO XC 80 set-top box to a television receiver

If the receiver is equipped with the connector shown in Fig. A, and the signal cable is equipped with a permanent connector for connection to the connector shown in Fig.
B, it is recommended to use an adapter (Fig. C) (sold separately). Attach it to the RF input of the receiver, and the signal cable, in turn, connect to the input of the adapter. If the signal cable is equipped with detachable connectors (F-connector/TV-connector), it is enough to remove the television connector (as in the figure). Attention: in order to avoid damage to the set-top box, we strongly recommend connecting the set-top box to the TV with the set-top box disconnected from the power supply.

7. Turn on the TV. Connect the input of the TV receiver to which the set-top box is connected (see the operating instructions for the TV receiver). After some time, the received channel to which the set-top box is tuned will appear on the screen. If the channels are not displayed, the wrong external image source may be selected.

Check the connection with the instructions for your TV. If the message “channel encrypted” or “service unavailable” appears, check whether the conditional access card is installed correctly in the receiver (chip down), wait 5-15 minutes, the image will appear on the screen.

When connecting to a digital set-top box, it is transferred to the subscriber already configured for channels

, which are currently broadcast on cable TV networks. If you change broadcast parameters, reset the receiver settings, or add new channels, the digital set-top box must be configured again.

GLOBO GL 30

The compact external digital receiver GLOBO GL 30 , presented by a Chinese manufacturer under the GLOBO brand, belongs to the budget segment of the market for uncoded signal receivers. The device contains only the minimum necessary options aimed at receiving and viewing free-to-air programs. The operation of the device is based on receiving a DVB-T/T2 format signal.

When used to watch an analog TV, the set-top box is capable of displaying an extremely clear, contrasting picture on its screen, after connecting the device to the TV via a composite RCA output. Maximum image quality can be obtained while watching channels on a modern digital TV when connected via a digital HDMI interface. In this case, the picture resolution can change within 720p, 1080i, 1080p, reaching a value of 1920x1080p.

If external memory media are connected to the receiver via a USB 2.0 port, the user is able to control the processes:

  • Reinstallation (updating) of software from old to more modern versions.
  • Record a signal in real time, in a delayed period, using a recording timer (PVR option).
  • Search during playback of the required fragment using high-speed rewind, using the “stop playback” mode (Time Shift).
  • Playback of previously recorded audio/video file formats: AVI, MKV, MP3, WMA, JPEG, BMP.

An additional bonus is the presence of subtitles and teletext mode, which is necessary for hearing-impaired people when learning foreign languages. The picture format on the screen can change within the range: 4:3, 16:9.

Upon sale, the buyer receives a set consisting of: GLOBO GL 30 receiver, remote control with 2 AAA batteries, low-frequency RCA 3x3 cable, user manual, warranty. The appearance of the device, made in the style of minimalism, looks harmonious. We can note the good quality of black plastic and high-quality assembly. The smoothness of right angles in the design gives aesthetic completeness to the appearance of the body.

Functional control buttons are located on the remote control. The laconicism of the front panel is emphasized by the operating mode indicator, built-in IR signal receiver, and USB 2.0 port. The rear panel connections are represented by an antenna signal input jack (RF IN), an HDMI interface, and RCA analog audio/video output connectors. Justified in the design is the large number of ventilation holes on the surface of the case, necessary to dissipate the heat generated from the operation of the receiver.

The positive features identified during testing include a well-thought-out menu interface, an ergonomic functional remote control, the absence of critical heating during long operation, and a harmonious design. The lack of support for AC3 and AAC audio formats, a limited set of playable media files, and increased requirements for antenna features to maintain picture quality reduce the level of competitiveness of the device.
