Digital terrestrial television in Novosibirsk and the region. How to watch and what you need for this

Publication date: January 05, 2014.

On the eve of 2014, namely December 27, 2013, test broadcasting of the second package of digital terrestrial television started in Novosibirsk. Thus, the number of digital TV channels received using a conventional television antenna on an over-the-air digital receiver has increased to 20.

Digital terrestrial television in Novosibirsk has finally acquired quite specific, tangible features from an ephemeral project that exists only in virtual space as rumors and promises of officials.

It gives us great hope for the successful development of digital television in the Novosibirsk region and the fact that we have a center for quality control of digital television signals throughout Russia. The station opened in July of this year in the Ordynsky district of the Novosibirsk region.

You can purchase high-quality models of on-air digital set-top boxes, inexpensively and with a guarantee, at. Nonresidents can place an order in our company’s online store, and residents of the city of Novosibirsk can purchase directly from the warehouse, at the address: st. Popova 92 Tel.3

In the transition to digital broadcasting, the station performs an important function - monitoring digital television throughout Russia. Due to its geographical features, our region was chosen as the location of this unique object. Through satellite antennas located on the territory of the Center, it is possible to monitor the condition of television and radio broadcasting facilities in the eastern and western parts of the country. There is also a regional antenna here.

Today the Center has about 60 regions under its jurisdiction. There are 876 television and radio transmitters in the Novosibirsk region, which allows signal coverage of up to 99% of the population. You can more accurately determine the possibility of reception in your region on the federal website of digital terrestrial television.

Here you can find out how far the tower is from you, whether you are in the broadcast zone, and in what frequency range the packages of TV channels 1 and 2 multiplexes are available.

Unfortunately, the information on the website for the second multiplex is far from complete. Let's hope it gets updated soon.

An example of issuing information upon request of the coverage area and location of towers for 1 multiplex. The map on the website is scalable.

Until recently, unstable reception of only 10 channels of the first multiplex was possible during a limited time of day. Now, after the launch of the second multiplex, which became possible after the installation of new antennas on the television tower at a height of 192 meters, the coverage area, reception stability and broadcasting time have increased significantly. More than one million seven hundred thousand residents of the region will be able to watch 20 channels in digital quality.

Unfortunately, the broadcast time of some channels does not correspond to our time zone. Also, the package does not yet include Novosibirsk channels, only on federal channels in the news, local inserts. The package with Novosibirsk channels is expected to be launched in the third multiplex by 2015.

It should be borne in mind that since our “digital” broadcast is currently only in test broadcasting, the signal level, package composition and broadcast time may change, so there can be no claims either to the delivery of the service or to the equipment sellers. Broadcasting of the analog signal has not yet stopped. I would like to hope that all further changes will only be for the better.

But now we can say with confidence that the level of the received signal, and accordingly the reception area, has become significantly higher. For example, in the Sovetsky district of Novosibirsk, in the territory of Obges and the Lower Zone of Academgorodok, a quite decent signal level is observed.

1 multiplex - channel 29, frequency 538 MHz

As can be seen from the picture, the channels of the first multiplex are broadcast without EPG, unlike the second. This is probably due to the test broadcast period.

2 multiplex - 24 channel, frequency 498 MHz

DIGITAL BROADCASTING IN THE NOVOSIBIRSK REGION

We are preparing for the transition to digital broadcasting. Analog TV channels are marked with the letter “A”

On January 1, 2021, Russia will completely switch to digital broadcasting, analogue television broadcasting will be turned off. With the launch of the digital broadcasting network, Russian citizens receive a set of high-quality TV channels absolutely free of charge, comparable to what was previously offered only in paid packages.

Today, the Russian project to switch to digital broadcasting is the largest in the world. Through the Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network (RTRS), a digital terrestrial television broadcasting network is being created in Russia with coverage of more than 98% of the population, including two multiplexes with 10 channels each, as well as 3 radio channels.

The construction of the first and second multiplex network has been completed in almost all constituent entities of the Russian Federation. More than 9.5 thousand transmitters have been installed and are operating; the network will be fully operational after the completion of construction of all facilities at the end of 2018.

For 1.6% of the population living outside the digital broadcasting zone, it will be possible to receive programs using the satellite broadcasting system.

User equipment for digital signal reception

To watch digital programs you will need a DVB-T2 TV or adapt an old TV using a digital set-top box.

Owners of old analog TVs who do not purchase new equipment before January 2021 will lose the ability to watch most TV programs.

Marking of analogue TV channels with the letter “A”

In order to inform citizens about the need to prepare for the transition to digital broadcasting by RTRS together with federal television channels, the analogue television signal is marked with a special letter “A”, added to the logos of the analogue versions of the TV channels “Channel One”, “Russia 1”, NTV, Channel 5, Ren-TV and STS. In the digital version of these channels, the letter “A” is missing.

The presence of the letter “A” on the screen means that the viewer is watching an old analog TV, or is using a new TV that has not been switched to the digital signal reception mode.

If you see the letter “A” on the screen:

— check in the settings of your TV whether digital signal reception is available;

- If your TV does not receive a digital signal, consider purchasing a new TV or digital set-top box before January 2019;

— for any questions regarding user equipment, please contact the federal RTR hotline at: 8-800-220-20-02 (toll-free) or the RTRS information Internet portal at: rtrs.rf

In case of difficulties with setting up equipment for receiving digital terrestrial television, TV viewers in our region can also contact the advisory support center by phone +7(383)314-46-16, e-mail

For reference: On the territory of the Novosibirsk region, as part of the implementation of the federal target program “Development of television and radio broadcasting in the Russian Federation for 2009-2018” in Russia, RTRS is creating a network of digital terrestrial (terrestrial) television broadcasting with coverage of more than 98% of the population, including two multiplexes with 10 channels, as well as 3 radio channels. The main contractor for the implementation of the Federal Targeted Program is the federal state unitary enterprise “Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network” (RTRS), in the Novosibirsk region there is a branch of the RTRS “Siberian Regional Center”. At the end of 2014, the Siberian branch of RTRS completed the construction of the digital broadcasting network infrastructure in the Novosibirsk region - 59 CETV stations were built. This made it possible to provide more than 97% of the region’s residents with access to new generation television without a subscription fee. The package of digital TV channels RTRS-1 (the first multiplex), consisting of 10 all-Russian mandatory public TV channels, can be watched even in the most remote and sparsely populated areas - where previously it was possible to broadcast only one or two channels or there was no television at all. Currently, the deployment of the broadcasting network of the RTRS-2 digital TV channel package (the second multiplex) continues in the Novosibirsk region. From August 1, 2021, regional news prepared by the Novosibirsk State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company became available to the population of the region in digital format. Regional television broadcasting in digital format will be available to 97.08% of the region's population; analogue broadcasting allows 89.52% of the region's residents to receive one regional version of the Rossiya-1 TV channel.

How to connect to terrestrial digital television

To connect terrestrial digital television, it is enough to have a regular UHF (UHF) television antenna. The antenna can be either indoor or outdoor. Its characteristics are individual for each subscriber and depend on the distance from the radio and television station and, as a consequence, the level of the received signal.

If you have a modern TV with the appropriate function (built-in support for the DVB-T2 standard and the MPEG-4 video compression standard), then, if you have an over-the-air antenna, just connect your TV to it and scan the channels. If your TV is not equipped with an appropriate tuner, then you need to purchase a special set-top box (terrestrial digital receiver in DVB T2 format) and connect it to the TV via an RCA input (tubepanes), or (which is preferable) via an HDMI input, if available.

Inexpensive receivers for receiving digital terrestrial satellite television can be purchased at. There are several models in the range:

ASK A-0908 (DVB-T2)

Selenga HD850(DVB-T2)

World Vision T40(DVB-T2)

The number and purpose of outputs on the rear panel are approximately the same for all receivers.

Available: antenna input, antenna repeater, digital audio output, HDMI output, RCA output (tulips)

The front panel has a USB port for connecting an external storage device (flash drive, hard drive).

The receivers are equipped with a media player function: they can play video files of various formats, music, and show photographs and other pictures from an external storage device. Also, all receivers can record watched TV shows to an external storage device. That is, they have the function of a video recorder. There is a “Timeshift” mode - the TimeShift function is also called time shift. When watching a TV channel, it allows you to pause live TV and return to watching from the same place later. Additionally, in addition to a simple pause, the ability to skip forward and backward is usually implemented. To implement this feature, an external drive must be connected to the receiver.

Receiver setup

To set up the receiver, you need to connect it to a television antenna and automatically search for TV channels.

Quite often, on channel 29 (1 multiplex), during automatic scanning there are only 9 channels instead of 10. In this case, you should perform a manual search on channel 29.

As already written above, with a small size and low price, about 1000 rubles. A digital terrestrial receiver can be used not only to receive digital TV channels, but also perform the functions of a media player. That is, we have 2 devices in one housing. You can get acquainted with the multimedia capabilities of the receivers by watching the video.

But, since this set-top box cannot work without a UHF television or terrestrial antenna, we recommend that you purchase it along with the receiver. Moreover, the cost of these antennas is negligible - from 60 rubles. up to 300 rub. Many people already have antennas at home, but as a rule they were installed a long time ago and in most cases no longer meet the requirements necessary for high-quality reception.

The Siberian Satellite Base company offers inexpensive terrestrial antennas for high-quality terrestrial television reception.
