Choosing a cable for Xbox 360 to connect to the TV

An impressive set of interfaces on modern TVs allows you to connect any set-top boxes to them, including game consoles from Microsoft - Xbox One and Xbox 360. But some users, especially beginners, have some difficulties synchronizing equipment. Let's figure out how to connect an X-Box 360 and Xbox One (S, X) to a TV. Let's look at the features of each interface, as well as possible problems and ways to solve them.

Which TVs can you connect Xbox to?

The game console will work even with old CRT TVs. The main thing is that the latter has at least some interfaces for synchronization with third-party peripherals. As a rule, we are talking about outdated SCART, RCA or S-Video outputs. In a good half of cases, special adapters will be needed for correct operation.

As for modern equipment, the set-top box can be connected to TVs from Samsung, Sony, LG and models of other brands without any problems. Any additional devices, such as adapters, are not needed here. Let us designate the main set of interfaces, as well as the order of synchronization of the set-top box with the TV.

Setting up network discovery on a mobile PC

To connect your laptop and game console, you must configure the PlayTo function correctly. For this purpose, go to the “Control Panel”, and then to the “Network and Sharing Center”. You will need to change additional sharing settings. In the current network profile you will need to enable:

  • the ability to detect a laptop on all network devices;
  • automatic configuration;
  • ability to share devices and information.

Also, set the switch to allow the operating system to manage homegroup connections.

Next, in the “All networks” section, set access to data located in shared files and directories. Password protected access must be disabled. After saving all the above changes, restart your laptop.

HDMI

This is the easiest and most universal way to connect Xbox 360 to your TV . Using the HDMI interface, you can simultaneously transmit high-resolution images and audio. This option is perfect for new TV models with UHD and QHD resolution (4K / 8K): Samsung QLED, LG UMxx series, PhilipsPUTxx and others.

Advice! As a rule, an HDMI cable is already included with the game console. If not, you will have to purchase it separately. It is better to stay with more expensive branded options. Their braid shields better and the plug is much more reliable.

Connection procedure:

  1. We connect the Xbox 360 to the TV using an HDMI cable.
  2. Open settings on TV.
  3. Find the “Signal Source” branch.
  4. Activate the “HDMI interface” item.

Some TV models are equipped with several HDMI ports, each of which is numbered. Sometimes interfaces are designated by the prefixes In and Out. When connecting your Xbox to a TV, you must take into account that on the console side the required port is HDMIOut, and on the TV it is HDMIIn.

Braided cable ensures durability

Another detail to take into account is that we're talking about HDMI cables, which will struggle quite a bit as a fixed device. Yes, they will bend on more than one occasion, they may suffer from the occasional accidental stomp... Come on, the typical involuntary torture we submit to such peripherals.

For this reason, if you want them to have a longer lifespan, ideally they have adequate protection. Therefore, you must ensure that you have armor (ideally triple armor), in addition to some type of thread covering, such as a known weaving system that prevents possible twists. There are even models with a tilting head for those times when you have a Smart TV mounted to the wall!

Since we are talking about the head, bet on models with a gold tip . These heads have a copper bath that guarantees better conductivity and transmission. The silver ones are cheaper, but lack that extra touch. And that can make a difference.

We can't forget the cable version. The HDMI standard has been on the market since 2002. So, it is a fact that the first generation cable will not have the same functionality as the newer models. So, taking advantage of the HDMI cable you used in your old console is not a good idea.

Now that we know the most important basics when choosing an HDMI cable, let's take a look at which models are the best for getting the most out of your desktop console.

Syncwire HDMI 2.0 cable

We start this collection with one of the most economical models, but no less reliable. The icing on the cake is applied to its outer PVC layer to protect the cable from possible interference.

RCA

This is not the best option, because the RCA interface does not transmit the highest quality image. The maximum possible resolution when connecting via “tulips” is 360r. For a TV with a diagonal of less than 20 inches, this is not so critical, but on large devices a specific “soap” will be visible. And this will add a lot of discomfort, especially when reading text in games.

Important! The console does not have such a connector, so you will have to use an RCA -> HDMI adapter. It is not included in the package. You can find it in almost every specialty store or, as a last resort, order it online.

How to connect Xbox One to TV via RCA:

  1. We connect the “tulips” to the TV in accordance with the color markings.
  2. We insert the other end into the HDMI connector on the set-top box.
  3. In the TV menu, select the signal source - AV or RCA.

This way you can connect the game console to old TVs. But connecting via an RCA adapter is fraught not only with a “soapy” picture, but also with the appearance of “snow” and other artifacts.

3. AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI

Best price.

Transmission speed

: 18 Gb/s |
Length
: from 1.8m – 10.6m |
Certification
: CL3-certified

Advantages:

  • Low price
  • Many length options

Flaws:

  • Not HDMI Premium Certified

Amazon has its own set of cheap accessories for equipment, including inexpensive HDMI cables. This is a 1.8 meter, for $5.99. Beat that, nameless street vendor.

This is the most ordinary, no-frills, black plastic wire, but in order not to look completely empty, it has gold plated connectors. It is not HDMI Premium certified, but it is still suitable for us - 18 Gb/s conductivity

The cable with AmasonBasics is usually up to 10.6 meters long, and the longer it is, the more bonuses it has. For example, the longest option has a CL3 certificate. This feature is for custom installations, meaning the cable can withstand high voltage.

I'd like to see the face of those who spent 100K on a home theater and found out that the installer used simple cables from AmazonBasics.

SCART

The SCART interface also does not contribute to a good output picture, but for very old TVs this is sometimes the only way out. Here you need a SCART -> HDMI adapter. It is quite rare even for specialized stores, but on Aliexpress there are plenty of offers.

Xbox One (S, X) connection procedure:

  1. We insert the cable into the SCART connector on the TV.
  2. We connect the other end to the set-top box in the HDMI port.
  3. On TV, select AV as the signal source.

Important! On some older TV devices, instead of AV there is another designation, for example, A++, AV+ or P+. It's worth trying them all if the main menu of the console is not displayed on the screen.

S-Video

A component interface can also be considered as a connection option. S- port has one significant drawback: it broadcasts the picture in decent quality, while it does not reproduce sound at all.

To enable sound, you will have to use an additional audio interface - 3.5 or 6.35 mm. If it is not on the TV device, then the S-Video option is not suitable. There shouldn't be any problems with the connection itself. Like RCA, all the wires here are color-coded, and it’s quite difficult to make a mistake. Adapters from component output to HDMI are not uncommon in stores.

Connecting the set-top box to the TV:

  1. We connect the wire to the TV according to the color marking.
  2. We insert the other end into the HDMI port of the set-top box.
  3. We connect acoustics (headphones, speakers) to the audio jack.
  4. On TV, select the signal source AV or S-Video.

Xbox360 alternative connection options

The most realistic option to enjoy video games on xbox360 is to use the console the way the developers intended. To do this, we will need a TV or computer monitor, as well as a speaker system (optional). There are different possible connection combinations, depending on the available connectors:

  • to a TV with an AV connector, an Xbox 360 AV Cable - we get the lowest picture quality, maximum 360p;
  • via S connector, Xbox 360 AV-S Video cable (average image quality, approximately 480p);
  • to a TV, TV component cable Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable (up to 1080p);
  • to a TV with a Scart connector, Xbox 360 RGB Scart cable, the quality will depend on the TV itself;
  • to HD-Ready and HD TVs, any HDMI cable (sound is also transmitted);
  • to a monitor with a VGA input, an Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable (tulip connectors for audio), up to 720p;
  • to a monitor with a DVI-D input, an HDMI cable with an XBOX 360 Optical/RCA Audio Adapter for audio output (quality up to 1080p);
  • to a monitor with an HDMI input using a cable of the same name - guarantees the best image;
  • to any audio system: RCA plugs, if there are no “tulips” on the devices, then with male/female adapters, or via XBOX 360 Optical/RCA Audio Adapter;
  • to audio devices with optical input from Xbox 360 Slim.

In itself, connecting to a TV or monitor does not involve any nuances - we connect the appropriate connectors and plugs, and then enjoy the affordable quality.

VGA

Some TV models are equipped with a VGA (D-Sub) port. It, like S-Video, transmits only the image. The picture quality is close to 480p. But unlike S-Video, instead of an audio port (3.5 / 6.35 mm), white and red RCA connectors are used here. The adapter must be selected with output to these two channels.

Connection:

  1. We connect the VGA cable and audio plugs to the TV (red - right channel, white - left).
  2. We insert the end of the cable with the HDMI connector into the corresponding interface of the set-top box.
  3. In the TV menu, select the signal source AV, D-Sub or VGA.

Connecting Xbox to a monitor using VGA.

In this case, an HDMI to VGA adapter is used. Some adapters also have a 3.5 mm jack output. As in the previous case, the picture resolution can reach 1080p.

HDMI to VGA Converter

The connection diagram is very simple:

  1. Console output → adapter → vga wire → display.
  2. It is recommended to run automatic display adjustment.

Cons: only the picture is transmitted (of noticeably worse quality), audio must be connected separately.

Possible problems

If the TV does not see the Xbox 360 via HDMI and other interfaces, then it is worth checking whether the signal source is set correctly in the TV settings . You can try updating the hardware software. Physical damage to the cable, plug and connector also cannot be ruled out.

Sometimes, when connecting the set-top box to LG TVs and other models running on the WebOS platform, the “No Signal” message is displayed, although the signal source is set correctly in the settings. Rebooting the devices helps. The fact is that this OS is extremely scrupulous about “hot” plugging. Therefore, before synchronization, it is better to turn off the power to the equipment.

Setting up Xbox 360

After making changes to the Windows network settings, you should configure your Xbox 360 correctly. The procedure is as follows:

  • on the joystick, press the key with the Xbox icon;
  • go to “Settings”, and then to “System Settings”;
  • in “Network Settings”, select the connection to which the mobile PC is connected.
  • on the joystick, press the key with the prefix symbol drawn;
  • in “Settings” go to “System Settings”;
  • in “Console Settings” you should select “Connected Devices”;
  • O.

For the changes to take effect, restart your game console.
