4 ways to connect Sony PlayStation 3 to TV

The rare (about once every ten years) update of gaming consoles from Sony makes the third-generation PlayStation a completely up-to-date device that supports many modern games and is still purchased by new users. Knowing how to connect the PS3 to the TV, the gamer will be able to choose the best option for synchronizing the console with an external display independently. Thus, ensuring maximum comfort from using the device.

The instructions are suitable for PS 4 (slim “Thin” and regular) and for the 2nd model. The connectors and cables are identical. The model and manufacturer of the TV does not matter; it is suitable for Samsung, Sony, Philips, LG, Supra and others. The main thing is not very old, Chaika and Saturn and the like will not work.

HDMI

The HDMI interface is the most convenient and functional way to connect the PlayStation to a TV. All you need is a modern HDMI cable with a data transfer rate of 10 Gbps and higher and support for Quad HD resolution. It is worth saying that the cost of high-quality wire starts from 1 thousand rubles per meter. Saving may result in the inability to synchronize devices.

The hardware linking process is extremely simple. The first end of the cable is inserted into the TV, and the second into the game console.

The software settings for displaying an HDMI signal on a television system will be discussed below.

Connecting Playstation 3 to a TV via HDMI and what problems there may be

The simplest and most common method that gives the highest image quality. Additionally, you will need an HDMI cable as the Playstation 3 does not come with one. Everything is simple here: insert one end of the cable into the game console, and the other into the free connector on the TV. Boot your console and find the HDMI channel you are connected to. What questions might you have:

  • No picture - check that the connection is correct, that the HDMI port is selected correctly, or try a different HDMI cable
  • No sound - Your TV or set-top box may have a different way of outputting sound. Go to your TV's settings, but first reset your PS3: turn it off by default, and once turned on, hold down the power button on the console until the second beep, then release it. The console will ask you to specify how to output audio and video. We rented game consoles in Minsk and noticed the following: if we connect the console to a modern Samsung TV after a modern LG TV, there is often no sound. Resetting as described above helps. By the way, for those who live in Minsk, you can rent a PS3 or PS4 with a 10% discount. Just say you read it in the article ;). Prices, conditions and much more - console rental in Minsk.

Via RCA cable

The RCA interface (also known as the AV interface and the “tulip”) is the only option for connecting PS 3 and 4 to an old television set. Although the “tulip” is included in the package of the third generation console, the user will still have to purchase a special cable to connect audio equipment. RCA only supports video transmission. Other disadvantages of this interface include:

  • Streaming images from Playstation in poor quality. The maximum video resolution will be a ridiculous 720x576 pixels. The color depth will be 7 bits, and on screens with a large display diagonal, graininess will be observed.
  • Possibility of sudden failure. The factory soldering temperature of any AV cable is 300-500 degrees, which is why during the manufacturing process of the wire the conductor and sheath inevitably fuse, resulting in a decrease in the heat resistance of the accessory.
  • Incompatible with some modern TV models. Some new TV sets may not have a “mother” connector for connecting an RCA cable.

If the user nevertheless decides to connect PlayStation and TV using this connector, you will need:

  • insert the rectangular plug of the AV cable into the corresponding connector of the set-top box (located next to the charging port);
  • connect the multi-colored ends of the “tulip” to television connectors of the same color;
  • synchronize sound transmission between devices using the optical audio output on PS3 (located to the left of the AV connector) and a special cable.

It is worth saying that sound output can be carried out not only to a TV device, but also to any other external speaker - speakers, home theater, wireless headphones, etc.

SCART

Scart is a type of AV connection that requires a special adapter to work (pictured). This technology became outdated 10 years ago and is now rarely used. PS4 can no longer be connected this way.

SCART (Peritel, Euro connector, Euro-AV) is an “association of manufacturers of radios and televisions,” an ancient European standard for outputting content from VCRs and DVD players.

Connection via AV (tulip)

The Playstation 3 has a built-in proprietary AV-Multi connector. Through it, the game console can be connected to the following TV inputs:

  1. AV connector. Commonly known as “tulips”. Connects to 3 ports - video is transmitted through yellow, audio is transmitted through white and red (stereo, not multi-channel).

  2. S-Video connector. One of the most outdated AV options.

  3. RCA connector (composite). It works like standard AV, but the image is transmitted not through one “tulip”, but through 3 (red, green, blue). This will not increase the resolution, but the quality of color rendition and scanning frequency will. That is, the RCA cable for PS3 has AV-Multi on one side and 5 “tulips” on the other (3 for video, 2 for audio).
  4. SCART connector. The principle of image transmission is the same as AV, but the “tulips” are connected to a special adapter (RCA-SCART). Sound is also output through this port.

The basic package of all Playstation 3 revisions only includes an AV cable. All others must be purchased separately. Not necessarily original ones - they cost almost 4-5 times more, and do not affect the final picture quality (with an analog signal, you still won’t be able to get a resolution higher than 720x576).

And yes, in all cases the signal is transmitted in analog format. In fact, all of the above AV connectors differ from each other only in pinout and shape.

The connection principle is extremely simple (and you don’t even need to turn off the TV):

  • turn off the console;
  • if an HDMI cable is inserted into it, remove it;
  • connect the AV-Multi output to an existing TV input (AV, RCA, Scart, S-Video);

  • turn on the game console;
  • on TV select the required signal source.

The sound does not have to be output through AV. The Playstation 3 has a separate optical output for audio. Its advantage is support for multi-channel audio. But the cable will have to be purchased separately. Setting up the source for outputting audio from the PS3 is done in the “Sound Settings” of the console itself.

In total, Playstation 3 can be connected to both old and new TVs without any problems. If possible, it is better to use HDMI - the image quality and clarity will be the best. Tell us in the comments which connection option you use with your PS3. And if it is AV, then describe whether the difference is noticeable when using AV and RCA in terms of color rendition.

S-Video

The S-Video interface is an older version of the AV plug and has particularly low image quality. Despite all the shortcomings of Separate Video, synchronizing devices using this method may be the only possible option for some TVs.

The user will have to purchase this accessory independently, and the connection will occur as follows:

  1. the flat end of the cable is inserted into the PlayStation AV connector;
  2. colored plugs responsible for transmitting stereo sound are connected to the corresponding color sockets of the TV device;
  3. the third round plug is connected to the TV video connector.

Oddly enough, the old connector has one advantage over its modified version - “built-in” support for transmitting audio codecs, so connecting external audio equipment is not required.

Using an HD/AV cable

Unfortunately, not all TVs are equipped with HDMI, so owners must look for alternative ways to connect the set-top box to maintain picture quality. Be sure to consider using an AV system. This cable has 5 different plugs that are used to connect the console to the TV. The principle of connecting the PS3 via “tulips” is somewhat similar to using this cable.

Unfortunately, the AV cable is not included as standard with the game console. Therefore, you will need to purchase this separately. Check your TV's technical documentation to make sure it supports the interface. How to connect Sony PlayStation 3 to TV? Insert the plugs into the sockets that match their color. Markings will make it easier to set up the connection.

The connectors responsible for transmitting the sound signal are O and “R”. Therefore, the image is transmitted through the ports: “PR/CR”, “PB/CB” and “Y”.

This method will also allow you to play with the highest resolution image possible.

Connecting PS3 to a monitor or computer

Very often, new PlayStation owners are interested in whether it is possible to connect the console to a laptop or computer monitor. It’s worth saying right away that the HDMI interface is useless here: computers have an HDMI output, but not the required HDMI input. The connection can be made using a DVI cable and a special adapter for the set-top box.

Design collection algorithm:

  • The DVI cable connects to the DVI-to-HDMI adapter.
  • The HDMI plug is inserted into the corresponding port on the game console.
  • DVI is connected to a monitor or laptop.

The maximum resolution of the broadcast image will be 2560x1600 pixels, which is less than 4K supported by the HDMI interface.

Connect the console to the TV via AV

This method also produces high-definition images. Everything is just as simple here - we connect the cables by color to the TV, the other end into the set-top box, we find the AV channel on the TV. At the very first start, hold the console start button until the second beep.

TV setup

During the connection process, you may encounter one of the following problems:

  • The TV screen remains black even when the console is running. In this case, you should check the active HDMI channel of the TV: the system must be configured to display content through the input port, not the output.
  • Complete absence of sound. It is worth making sure that the hardware connection is correct and the cable used is working properly.
  • No sound in games. To solve this problem, you need to go to “Settings” and set audio transmission via two-channel PCM.

It is worth saying that setting up the console itself is not required: PlayStation will automatically select the optimal audio and video synchronization characteristics. If desired, the user can independently adjust the set parameters through the system menu.

Possible problems

When the console is running via HDMI, audio in the main menu can be played, while in the game itself it disappears. The issue is most likely due to an accidental reset of presets or the connection of TV equipment from another manufacturer. For example, if you connect a game console to a Samsung TV and perform the initial setup of the console, then after changing the TV device to an LG brand model, all settings will return to the basic ones . If the presets remain the same, then you can try turning off the set-top box and turning it on again while holding the power button until the beep sounds again. A request to connect via the HDMI port should appear on the screen. We agree and the sound will appear again.

If the screen begins to flicker, or vertical or horizontal black stripes appear on the TV screen, this indicates a problem with the settings. The surest way is to reset all console parameters to basic ones (hold Power for 10 seconds until two beeps).

If the TV does not see the PS3 via HDMI or any other interface, the first thing to do is check the signal source on the TV. The settings must indicate the appropriate output: HDMI, AV, RCA, etc. It would also be a good idea to check the integrity of the cable.

Difference between PS3 and PS4 connection

The fourth generation PlayStation is devoid of outdated interfaces: RCA, AV, S-Video and others. The only output through which you can connect TV equipment to the set-top box is HDMI. Adapters and converters act as a panacea here, but not every adapter will work with PS4. The same HDMI-VGA AUX format will not function normally.

Advice! Therefore, before purchasing a new generation set-top box, you should definitely check whether your TV has an HDMI port.

Developers continue to release new games for the PlayStation3 console, so the question often arises of how to connect it to a TV. There are different methods, and the choice of a specific method can be made based on the model of the TV.

How to connect PS3 to a VGA monitor

There may be some difficulties when trying to connect your PS3 to your computer monitor. In particular, there may be a VGA connector , which does not “communicate” with the console using standard methods.

PS3: Fat, Slim, Super Slim

In this case, you will need to buy a special converter, the cost of which is approximately 500-700 rubles. This device will be a great help in this situation, and now we’ll tell you why.

It is worth considering that VGA can only transmit images , which means you will not hear sound. However, the converter we talked about earlier has AUX, which allows you to connect external speakers or headphones.

For reference. Converters come in two types: with additional power from USB and without. Any of them is suitable for PS3, but for PS4 only the first option.

the HDMI-VGA converter itself , work.

Some monitors may report that the input signal is outside a certain range. This means that they do not support 1080p or 1080i images. When resetting, you need to set it to 720p or less. The picture quality will be lower, but this is the only way out of the situation .

This article will help you if you want to connect your PlayStation 3 system to your TV using an HDMI cable.

Note:

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SIEE) does not have information on supported HDMI converters - i.e. HDMI to DVI converters. SIEE cannot guarantee the performance of any converters. Additionally, the PlayStation 3 system can only output video through one connector at a time; SIEE does not have information about connecting a PlayStation 3 system to multiple devices.

You will need access to an HDMI input channel on your screen device. Most TVs have multiple input or video channels (i.e. Input 1, Input 2, Input 3, etc.). Once you have completed the HDMI setup on your PlayStation 3 system and connected the system to your TV using an HDMI cable, you may need to try each input channel one by one to find the channel that matches the HDMI input. For more information, see your TV's documentation.

  • Turn off your PlayStation 3 system and unplug it from the power source.
  • Turn off the TV and unplug it from the power source.
  • Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT connector on the back of your PlayStation 3 system.
  • Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input jack on your TV.
  • Reconnect the PlayStation 3 system to the power source and turn on the PlayStation 3 system.
  • Reconnect the TV to the power source and turn it on.
  • The PlayStation 3 system will automatically detect the TV via HDMI.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm HDMI output, switch to optimal settings, and confirm maximum HD picture resolution.

Router settings

How to enable Wi-Fi in the router on PS3? To do this, you must first configure the router by going to its control panel. There are two ways to connect: via wire or via Wi-Fi. The first case is preferable, since even with high-speed Internet, it will slow down the game when connected via Wi-Fi, since there is a lot of network congestion. While one is playing, the other is sitting in the next room with the phone.

To configure the router you need to know the network address. It is indicated in the Windows OS settings. This is usually 192.168.1.1. or 192.168.0.1.

Before logging into the router, it will require a username and password. They are written in the instructions or on the sticker of the device itself.

Before setting up, you need to assign static IP addresses to each gaming device and computer. If you do not check the box, the router will issue one address, and after a while it will automatically change it to another.

On the router sticker (on the back) there is a MAC address that you need to know. It will help you create a static address for your iPhone.

After connecting the PS3, you need to select the appropriate device in the router settings or enter its MAC data yourself. For example, if it is in this form: 192.168.1.ХХХ, then it will turn out like this: 192.168.1.155. It is possible that instead of one there will be a zero. Then it will be: 192.168.0.155.

The last number is any number between 2 and 255. You need to assign a static address to every device that is in the house.

Important! You need to make sure that UPnP mode is enabled on your router.

You can also use the “Reservation” option to obtain a permanent IP address. The router automatically assigns a specific IP to the device by MAC address.

Possible problems and their solutions

Perhaps an error will appear when it comes time to connect the PS3. If the ps3 does not connect to WiFi, then you need to check the network. It may take several minutes to wait for a response. You should try connecting the device to another computer, if it works, then there is a problem with the provider. You need to contact an online service for help.

To summarize the review, it is worth saying that you can connect the PS3 to a PC in the two most common ways: wired and wireless. Playing over Wi-Fi is slower, so it's better to use a wired connection.

Ability to connect Playstation 3 to the Internet

All devices in this series have the same functionality when it comes to connecting via Wi-Fi. The setup process has some differences depending on the equipment. An important factor is individual parameters on the part of the provider serving certain clients.

Note! Testing functionality is the first step for those interested in setting up a connection.

Here experts give some important advice:

  • First, it is recommended to connect to Wi-Fi using your smartphone. Establishing a connection is not that difficult, you just need to turn on the network icon and enter the password. This will allow you to find out whether there is access to the network and whether it is working correctly.
  • It is recommended to place the set-top box as close to the signal source as possible.
  • Disconnecting the Ethernet cable from the device is the last thing to check before you begin. Then the PS3 will maintain its Internet connection at the proper level.

How to set up Internet on Sony PlayStation 3

To access the Internet from the PS3 game console, you need to complete the following steps:

  1. Turn on the game console and wait until it boots.
  2. In the Playstation 3 main menu, go to settings. Select the item dedicated to network connections, and then the “Internet Connection” section, where you need to activate the power button.
  3. It is necessary to decide how the set-top box will support online operation. To do this, go to the “Setup Method” item on the PS and select the mode called “Simple”. The system itself will offer one of the options for further connection. You need to select “Wireless”. In this case, connecting the set-top box to the Network will not be difficult.
  4. It remains to find a network with which Sony will interact. In this case, the “Scan” function helps, after using which the system activates the Wireless module. It automatically detects nearby devices that may be the source of an Internet signal.
  5. Then the SSID is displayed - the names for the available connections. Sometimes an automatic connection is available if the router itself allows operation in this mode.
  6. All that remains is to select the network you plan to use. You need to click on the X button; information regarding the current signal level will appear in a separate window.

Note! Encryption method, network passwords are entered at the last stages of settings. The router will help you decide which encryption option will be optimal. After entering the password, all you have to do is press the START button.

How to connect PS3 to the Internet via wire

Connecting and setting up the ZyXEL Keenetic router model Lite II

Thanks to the use of cables, the Internet signal will be of higher quality. But there is also a minus - you will have to run a long cable if the set-top box and the router are far from each other. Because of this, some difficulties arise, especially if there are pets.

Note! Additional cable management is required as they are easily damaged.

How to set up Internet on PS3 via cable:

  1. Connect the cable to the set-top box.
  2. Go to settings and select network connections.
  3. Open "Internet Connection Settings". After this, the console itself asks you to make sure that everything is working as it should.
  4. Select a network installation method. It can be simple or special. In most cases, the first option is recommended.
  5. After selecting the appropriate line, the PS3 automatically determines the configuration. All that remains is to save the previously made changes and connect to the Internet.

Wireless Internet Connection on PS3

Connecting Xbox 360 to the Internet via cable or Wi-Fi

Compared to a wired connection, this option is a bit slow. But the difference is practically not felt if the Internet is high-speed.

Setting the appropriate settings, as well as distributing the Internet from your phone to the PS3, is a little more complicated, but if you figure it out carefully, everything will work out.

Instructions on how to set up a wireless Internet connection on PS3:

  1. Go to settings, select the item dedicated to networks.
  2. Open the “Internet connection settings” item. You can skip the message about the need for a cable in the case of a wired connection by clicking on the OK button.
  3. Select the Wi-Fi installation method. And in this case, a simple option is relevant.
  4. In the next step, the system automatically checks the configurations available to the user. The user should be interested in the wireless connection.
  5. Open the menu with WLAN settings. The search for available access points occurs automatically if you select scanning. When the check is complete, all access points that you can connect to will be displayed.
  6. Select the appropriate option for Wi-Fi operation.
  7. Go to “WLAN Security Settings”. In this case, the PS3 asks whether a password is set on the router and what characters it consists of. If it is not there, the user needs to make an appropriate choice. Otherwise, select one of the encryption methods - WPA2-PSK or WPA-PSK. USB supports the same technologies.
  8. The password and WPA key are the same thing; they must be entered. Without this, you will not be able to connect to the Internet.
  9. At the next stage, the configuration is checked again. When everything is finished, the settings that require saving will be displayed.
  10. The connection test is one of the final stages. The check is carried out automatically by the system.

Connecting PS3 to the Internet via a 3G modem

The most convenient option is to use modern modems with a USB connection. Instructions on how to set everything up:

  1. List all characteristics related to the Internet connection. This applies to both DNS servers and IP addresses. It’s better to write them out somewhere in advance so that you can easily type them later.
  2. Disable the firewall, otherwise you will not be able to connect to the network.
  3. Set up a local connection on your computer.
  4. Set up a local connection on the set-top box itself.

Important! When setting up the Network via a modem, it is recommended to use the LAN cable that comes with the set-top box, or any other similar cord.

How to distribute the Internet from your phone to PS3

Mobile phones are classified as multifunctional devices.

Note! One of the options is modem mode, supported by almost every gadget that works with 2G, 3G, 4G standards.

Connecting to an access point on the Android operating system is one of the simplest procedures. The actions happen one after another in the following order:

  • First, open the menu and click on the gear icon.
  • Click on settings and go to “More”.
  • Select modem mode in the part of the menu dedicated to wireless networks. Distribution can be carried out directly via Bluetooth or via Wi-Fi. Each owner of a mobile device chooses what suits him best. Usually the second option is chosen.
  • All that remains is to select the parameters with which the device will work.
  • You must check the “Connect all devices” checkbox, otherwise distribution will be impossible.
  • Check your username and password and make adjustments if necessary.
  • Place a checkmark next to Wi-Fi. A message will appear indicating that the point has become active.
  • Open the device that requires connection.
  • Select an item with shared Internet. The connection to Android is displayed separately.
  • All that remains is to enter the password. At this point, the setup is considered complete.

Note! In the case of the set-top box, the connection will be the same as with other Wi-Fi access points.

Automatic connection

Setting up an Internet connection on PlayStation 3

You just need to check the appropriate box for the system to connect automatically. Then the device will independently open the PlayStation network and use remote downloading.

Important! If you connect automatically, your account can be used by third parties. Therefore, automatic configuration is not always convenient.

The PS3 system has two accounts that must be taken into account when entering the game. The first is associated with a local user, and the second with multiple players.

In the first case, for ps3 it is impossible to configure WiFi with a password. Since the local user himself has access to the game. Other people are not listed here.

To disable automatic login, you need to go to the menu and select the triangle, and then indicate that you need automatic login to the network; to secure the result, press X.

Note! Other users will still be able to log into the account since there is no password.

In the second case, it will not be possible to change the local entry after selecting it once. It remains possible to configure automatic entry into the game. In this case, the password is saved, which protects the network from third parties.

There is no sound in the game, but there is sound in the menu. What to do?

It happens that when you connect the Playstation 3 to the TV via HDMI, there is sound in the menu, but when you start games it disappears. This usually happens when changing TV. Especially if they are from different manufacturers. This problem can be solved very simply - turn off the console, then turn on the console with the power button on the ps3 itself and hold it until the second beep, then release the button. The set-top box will ask whether to output sound and video via HDMI, to which we, of course, agree. This problem occurs due to a conflict in audio formats played by different TVs.

If there is still no sound, you can try a different HDMI cable. If this does not help, then try outputting the sound through the “tulips” or digital output, as described above in the chapter “How to connect to a monitor and output sound to speakers.”

Thank you very much for your attention to the article. Unfortunately, the comment block is not ready yet. Therefore, if you have any questions, then leave them under a similar video on my YouTube channel. I will be glad to answer all your questions.

Many game console owners have difficulty connecting the console to the TV. This is due to the fact that in the instructions for the equipment the connection process is considered superficially, the TV model, as well as the list of available interfaces, are not taken into account at all. Now let’s study this problem by examining in detail the possible options for connecting the PS3 console to televisions of different models.

Manually setting up a PS3 connection

How to manually connect to WiFi on PS3? First you need to make sure that the cable is connected. Then you should follow the instructions:

  1. Select the configuration command in HMV.
  2. The Internet must be turned on.
  3. You need to select a connection to the web network.
  4. Now you need to disconnect the PlayStation from the network.
  5. The settings option must be special.
  6. The connection method must be specified: wired.
  7. Now you should indicate that the mode is working.
  8. Basic settings should be automatic.
  9. The transmission speed and method must be manually configured

Why can't TV see PS3?

Situations vary. Let's skip the moments when the PS3 is faulty and focus on the TV itself. You can start with trivial sources of the problem.

  1. The TV does not support the required format. As a rule, this concerns the available ports. Playstation 3 can be connected via a composite cable (Tulip) or the more modern HDMI. But if the device does not support these technologies, then you will not be able to play.
  2. Connection equipment faulty. It also often happens that the cable suddenly stops working. The simplest thing is that it is faulty. Therefore, you just need to replace it.
  3. Settings are lost. Modern TVs have several input ports and all kinds of settings. And it may happen that you simply chose the wrong signal source. Or in the channel settings you have incorrectly defined the resolution, frequency and other parameters. Study them.
  4. Incorrect signal format in the console. Everyone knows how to connect a set-top box to a TV. But not all users are aware that after determining the signal format in the system, when connecting another cable, the image may not be supplied to the TV. For example, the console was connected via composite, and then you decided to switch to HDMI. In this case, you need to reset the signal settings in the set-top box (turn off the device, hold down the power button until 3 beeps sound, and then select the appropriate mode

Problems connecting Sony PlayStation 3

When trying to connect a game console to a TV, you may encounter a problem - there is no image on the screen. There may be several reasons:

  • Previously, the set-top box was connected with a different cable
. The TV simply did not detect the new connection type, do a hard reset of the PS3. To do this, press the start button and hold it for about 10 seconds, you will hear two beeps. Try connecting to the TV again.
  • Faulty cable
. You can test it with a special device or try it on another device. The problem will be solved by purchasing a new cable of the required format.
  • You have not entered connection mode
. If, after starting the set-top box, you see a channel on the TV screen and not a loading screen, it means you have not switched to the desired mode. Depending on the model, this can be HDMI, AV, RCA, S-Video. The TV should be switched to connection mode with a set-top box using the remote control, there you will see an HDMI button or its equivalent, depending on the version of the device.

So, let's figure out how to connect the PlayStation 3 game console, be it to a TV or monitor, in various ways and at the same time avoid childish mistakes.

Which TV can you connect PS4 to?

The latest model of Sony Playstation can be connected to almost any TV, because manufacturers make a lot of adapters for convenient use of TV in different situations. But there are special requirements for the PS4 TV to ensure that the picture is as high quality as possible:

  1. Technology type and screen refresh rate. High-quality acoustics and clear images are only possible on modern LED models with a screen refresh rate of at least 100 Hz.
  2. Screen resolution. Reference – 4K. Only in this case the picture will meet expectations.
  3. Viewing angle. Excess side lighting when choosing a TV for PS4 leaves its mark on the gaming experience. The image is distorted and difficulties arise in group games.
  4. Input-Lag. Displays the time it takes for the TV receiver to implement the signal on the screen. Responsible for the parameter of the TV response to the player’s actions.
  5. PQI update index. The larger it is, the better for gaming.
  6. Screen size. Here, of course, it’s up to the player’s taste - some like a smaller screen, some like a larger one. A good picture on anyone will involve you in the process.
  7. Interface. To quickly connect your PS4 to your TV, it is better if it has an HDMI cable and an appropriate input.

Installing PS3 on TV

Developers continue to release new games for the PlayStation3 console, so the question often arises of how to connect it to a TV. There are different methods, and the choice of a specific method can be made based on the model of the TV.

Connecting PS3 to a modern TV via HDMI

The Sony PlayStation 3 console can work on different TVs, but the best option is modern models. First, you should make sure that your computer supports an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection. You can find out about this in the instructions. This cable looks like this:

In the latest versions of the PS3 console it comes included. If you don't have a cable, you can always buy one.

The connection follows a simple scheme:

  • First you need to connect the set-top box to the network. Insert one end into the input on the back of the PS3 and the plug into a power outlet. After this, the red indicator on the case will light up - the power is on, the set-top box is functioning normally.
  • Now you need to connect your Sony PlayStation 3 to your TV. The HDMI connector is located on the back of the device - insert the cable into it until it clicks.
  • The second end of the cable must be connected to the set-top box. The connector is located on the rear panel between the place for the network and Internet cables. Plug in the cable until it clicks.
  • Done, the set-top box is connected and ready to use.

The HDMI cable has identical ends, so you won't mix them up. You can clearly see the connection process in the following video:

Connecting PS3 to an old TV via tulip

As it turns out, a tulip is a rather loose concept. AV, S-Video and RCA are used for connection. We will analyze each of them separately. Remember or write down the name of the cable so that you can select the correct item in the store.

Next in quality after HDMI is AV. It is quite easy to recognize - the cable has five inputs for connecting to a TV at one end, and at the second there is a compact plug for connecting a set-top box. It is not included as standard with the Sony PlayStation 3, so you will have to buy it separately. Check your TV manual to make sure you have the option to connect via AV. The cable looks like this:

The connection is made according to the standard scheme. We plug one end into the set-top box in Multi Out, and the other into the sockets of the desired color on the TV. For convenience, each output is marked, audio is highlighted as L

and
R
, and video – PR/CR, PB/CB, Y. The image will be clear, but the AV connection does not reach HDMI.

Everything you wanted to know about TVs

1) Connect the Playstation 3 to the TV.

. To set up automatically, the TV and PS3 must be turned off.

An option suitable for connecting all types of TVs, including “old” ones, is connecting with the AV cable that comes with the console (shown in Figure 1).

Figure 1 - AV-multi cable

We connect one end of the cable (black) to the PS3 so that the Playstation inscription and the triangle shown on the connector are on top (visible to us). The second end - we connect the tulips to the TV: yellow - video, white - audio left channel, red - audio right channel. If the color markings of the wires and inputs of the TV are different, pay attention to the inscriptions VIDEO, AUDIO L (left channel) and AUDIO R (right channel) on the TV panel.

2) Turn on the Playstation 3 and TV.

After turning on the console and TV, find the AV button on the TV remote control and press it. Usually has a designation: a rectangle with an arrow or the inscription “AV”.

3) Set up the output of video and audio signals on the Playstation 3.

The easiest way is to automatically detect settings. The algorithm is as follows: we make all connections with the console turned off, and then turn on the console. If the correct signal source is selected on the TV (AV mode is turned on on the TV), the Playstation will detect the video and audio settings automatically.

The second method is manual configuration.

Step 1. Go to system settings -> video settings

Step 2. Video output settings.

Step 3. TV connection type. In the case of a complete cable, select AV MULTI / SCART

Step 4. Select the resolution (we skipped the step of choosing the type of setting: Automatic or Manual - choose at your discretion. The photo shows: Manual)

The audio output parameters are selected in the same way.

How to connect to a monitor and output sound to speakers

Well, what if there is no TV? What then? Then you can connect the PS3 to the monitor and if the monitor does not have built-in speakers, output the sound through the tulips to regular speakers or an optical cable to higher-quality speakers.

Connecting via HDMI to a monitor is no different from the same connection to a TV. In addition to HDMI, you can connect to the monitor via DVI; you will need either an adapter, as in the picture below, or an HDMI to DVI cable.

And remember, you won’t be able to connect to VGA, don’t even try - digital and analog signals are completely different things.

It remains to figure out the sound output if the monitor does not have speakers or a 3.5 mm jack output. There are two more ways to output audio separately:

  • through the tulips - connect the multi out rca cable to the connector of the set-top box, as in the third picture, and the red and white tulips to the audio input on the speakers - picture below. Usually the output is located behind the speaker in which the amplifier is built. Next, you need to go to the settings on the set-top box at the following points: settings - sound settings - audio output settings and select the most recent option, press X to confirm

  • via an optical cable - connect one end of the optical cable to the console, the other to the speakers. If you have such speakers and cable, then you know where it all is. All that remains is to go to the settings on the ps3 using the following points: settings - sound settings - audio output settings, and select the second option, press X to confirm.

These are the simplest and most understandable ways to output images from ps3 to various sources, which are accessible to almost everyone. Remember, it is better to purchase a cable or adapter than to break the set-top box.
