DIY unified antenna power injector

Saratov Electromechanical Institute has added several USB injectors to its arsenal of equipment and accessories for watching digital terrestrial television. Today we will not focus on the REMO BAS-8001 model.

The “REMO BAS-8001” USB injector is designed to power 5V active antennas from the TV’s USB port. Allows you to connect an antenna to the TV input without using a power supply. Eliminates unnecessary wires and current consumers. Increases the life of the antenna amplifier. The safest and most economical way to power an antenna.

The essence of the problem of connecting an active antenna to a TV (more precisely, supplying power to it directly from the TV) is described in the article “how to turn on the antenna power.” And already there we noted the feasibility of such a device as a USB injector.

“REMO BAS-8001” is supplied

Overall dimensions of the box and the USB injector “REMO BAS-8001”:

As you can see, on the back of the box the method of connecting the USB injector to the TV and antenna is shown. It is also indicated that the accessory is designed to supply power to the active antenna amplifier from the USB port of a TV, computer or charger.

In our case, the “REMO BAS-8001” USB injector was connected using the TVjet RE820HDT2 set-top box, thereby supplying power directly from the set-top box:

This is what the “REMO BAS-8001” USB injector itself looks like:

The test was carried out using a TVjet RE820HDT2 digital television receiver and the STRIZH 3.0 antenna (REMO BAS-5132). Looking ahead, I would like to note that this antenna performed very well and can be considered one of the best indoor antennas. It will be tested a little later on our website.

Reception parameters: country house, cottage development. There are no high-rise buildings. To clarify the location of the tower, go to the service. We find our house and see the exact direction (azimuth) and distance to the two nearest towers.

Near transmitter: 5 kW (coverage area more than 45 km). The set-top box used is TVjet RE820HDT2.

The antenna is installed next to the TV. Reception of the first digital terrestrial television multiplex without a USB injector “REMO BAS-8001” :

Reception of the first multiplex of digital terrestrial television with a USB injector “REMO BAS-8001” :

As you can see, the “quality” scale with the “REMO BAS-8001” injector has reached its maximum level.

Do not forget the fact that if the digital terrestrial television transmitter is located close, then using the REMO BAS-8001 injector may worsen reception due to an overamplified signal.

Pros: a good and cheap option to get rid of unnecessary wires and increase signal strength. There are no analogues. Cons: short injector wire. But this minus occurs if you connect it to a TV and not to a set-top box.

How to connect a USB power injector for an active television antenna.

Our expert Stanislav Boush Says:

The best indoor digital TV antenna T-3310 - Active, differs from passive ones in that there is a television signal amplifier inside it.

Those who watched our video about how to connect an active antenna for digital TV to a TV already know that in order for the amplifier to work, the supply voltage must be applied to it. In modern antennas, power is supplied through the central core of the cable.

Here is an antenna, for example, an indoor directional active one, called T-3310, produced by antenna.ru. When power is applied, the indicator LED lights up. But how to supply power to the antenna and even through the central core of the cable?

To power active antennas, a special device was invented, which for some reason is called not a power supply, but a power injector.

Our VIDEO about the injector ON YOUTUBE

The main idea of the developers was that the antenna must be powered from the USB connector of the TV, this is done in this way: the injector has three connectors - USB, TV male, TV female. We plug the USB into the USB of the TV (or receiver), TV dad into the TV socket of the receiver, TV mom into the antenna! Voila! The LED lit up, we connected the antenna correctly.

Sometimes it is convenient to power the antenna from a mobile phone charger:

Most often, it is convenient to power the antenna from a mobile phone charger if you need to distribute the signal from one antenna to several receivers or televisions. That is, we separately power the antenna, and connect the injector output to a TV signal divider and divide it into as many TVs or tuners as required. (It is not possible to power the antenna from the receiver through ordinary dividers, only through special feedthroughs).

A power injector without an LED indicator indicator is an extremely mysterious thing - it is absolutely unclear whether it received power from the USB port of the TV, whether it supplied 5 Volt power to the active antenna - without an indicator, all this is a mystery shrouded in darkness. This is why I recommend the Triad-311 power injector (a link to it is at the end of the article).

And one more thing: There are antennas on sale with a USB injector built directly into the antenna.

However, the length of the USB cable and antenna cable for such antennas is usually very short, about 50 centimeters, so it is convenient to use such antennas only in an area of reliable reception, because if the antenna needs to be carried three meters from the TV, now two extension cords will be needed. You will have to buy both an antenna extender and a USB extender.

That's all! The antenna.ru channel was with you!
