LG TVs are one of the most popular on the market. They rightfully compete with Samsung TVs in terms of image and sound quality, being one of the most functional, reliable and smart devices. Having purchased an LG TV, the owner of the device tries to use voice search on it, after which he encounters error 200 and the message “Host names do not match with the server certificate.” Usually the error is caused by problems on LG servers, which causes many ordinary users to suffer. Below we will analyze in detail the essence of error 200 on smart TVs from LG, and also explain how you can fix the problem.
Error 200 on LG Smart TV – what does it mean?
Error 200 is a frequent guest on Smart TV from LG starting from approximately 2021 to the present day. It usually appears when the TV owner tries to use voice search on the TV remote control, and is accompanied by the following messages:
- “Hostname mismatch with server certificate”;
- “There is an error in the network server. Try again";
- “The voice recognition server is not responding”;
- “Hostname does not match server certificate” and others.
The main cause of the error is problems on LG servers that are not able to correctly recognize requests from applications installed on the user’s TV (for example, YouTube, Netflix, Movistar Play, Amazon Prime and others). LG support is aware of error 200 and problems with its servers, and promises to fix the error with the help of regular automatic updates. Nevertheless, judging by user reviews, the problem repeats itself from year to year, and the problem is still there.
Temporary solutions to error 200 may be the methods we describe below. Let's take a closer look at each of them.
We do repairs right
We should not forget about the general instructions. It is advisable to dismantle the main board in order to avoid the possibility of electric shock. First you need to discharge the electrode of the EL tube.
Important! During restoration work, try not to touch metal parts.
This component is located in the area of the rubber gasket:
- Use a screwdriver to pry off the rubber band.
- Rock the component and remove the EL tube electrode.
- Touch the rod to the body of the device, thereby discharging the part. If you can find land, it's best to take advantage of it. The most ideal option is a European-style socket that has the terminals connected correctly.
- When discharging, you should hear characteristic clicks. Discharge the component until you can no longer hear them.
- Each TV has a main board, which is responsible for “controlling” the equipment. Remove this part and inspect the radio components on the board.
- If necessary, replace swollen capacitors, resistors and burnt-out elements.
Important! If you haven't been able to repair your TV yourself, it's probably time to replace it with a new, improved model. In our separate review you will find out which TV brands are better.
Temporarily disconnect your LG TV from the Internet
A temporary and quite effective way to fix error 200 in LG TV is to temporarily disconnect the TV from the Internet. Disconnect your TV from the Internet for about 5 minutes, then connect it back. Since error 200 is a network error, it may disappear after reconnecting the TV to the Internet.
Disconnect the internet connection network cable from your TV
Also, if disconnected from the Internet, the TV begins to well understand local voice commands such as “Turn off”, “Go to such and such a channel” and others.
LCD devices
Repairing LCD TVs with your own hands - the screen does not light up. This problem can be solved if you know the general principles.
Cases of breakdown of such equipment are slightly similar to those described above for CRT models. Obviously, there are unlikely to be any posistors here, so you only need to establish the reason for the failure of the backlight. Typically, such TVs are classified into two types:
- Based on gas discharge lamps.
- Based on diodes.
Gas lamps have nothing in common with those lamps that hang on ceilings. To check the power supply, it is necessary to dismantle the back wall and visually evaluate the functionality of the wires that go inside the matrix. To do this, disconnect them from the connector and use a light bulb to check their operation.
It also happens that the illumination is provided by a number of discharge-type light sources. In this case, you will need to try to pull out the matrix and turn on the device, looking to see which lamp is not working. If a failed component is found, a replacement will need to be found.
Important! Select components according to your TV model.
In some models, you simply need to remove the lamp from the end without dismantling the matrix. The conductors are located on both sides and covered with a special protective gasket, which needs to be pushed back a little. The light bulb is desoldered and a brand new component is placed in its place.
Important! Also, when installing, consider the location position: side or top. You should not lose sight of those cases when several illuminators are used in one cell.
If there is a horizontal or vertical stripe on the screen, then the root of the problem should be found in the scanning electrode. We recommend that you provide power to another device that has a working matrix in order to confirm this assumption.
Important! It is irrational to replace crystals in budget TV models. Most likely, it will be more profitable to purchase a new device. You may find a suitable model in our publication “Best 32-inch LED TVs.”
But let's not forget about those cases when the TV is broken, but its matrix is working. Then it is recommended to carry out repairs.
Cable problems
The most common breakdown is cable problems. Most often, it is simply stepped on, which leads to damage to the core or even the track on the microcircuit. The digital type receiver is made in the form of a small microcircuit with a shielding coating, which is why the assembly is inseparable from the cable connector.
Before repairing such a component, you must carefully remove the electronic components. Then you should find glue and a soldering iron, returning all the wiring to its place.
Important! When choosing a new TV, don't forget to pay attention to the screen resolution. One of the newest developments is 4k resolution. And by following the link, you will find the rating of 4k TVs.
Check for standard updates
In some cases, error 200 on LG may be due to the lack of any update for your TV. To check for an update, do the following:
- Launch the menu on your TV;
- Select "Settings";
- Next, click on “Support”;
- Select "Software Update" and then "Check for Updates";
- If an update is found, install it on the system.
The indicator lights up red
The situation when the TV cannot be turned on using the remote control or buttons on the device itself, and the indicator is on, occurs frequently.
Usually, in such cases they say: “The TV does not come out of standby mode.” There may be several reasons for this, but we need to start with the most obvious ones. Replace the batteries in the remote control, remember which button the TV was turned on from earlier and, if this does not help, call a TV technician or, with the proper skill, start repairing the TV yourself. The glow of the indicator, with a greater or lesser degree of probability, indicates the operability of the power supply. However, diagnosing this malfunction, like most others, should begin with an analysis of the operation of this board. Checking the voltages in standby mode, their stability when trying to switch on the operating mode, measuring the level of filtration, visual inspection of parts helps to assess the performance and functionality of the power supply. Electrolytic capacitors, the upper part of which has characteristic swelling, require unconditional replacement.
In the “TV Malfunctions” section, real stories of TV repairs with a similar defect are considered using the example of Philips 42PFL7433S/60, SAMSUNG LE40R82B, Philips 20PF5121/58 TVs and other models. The behavior of television receivers was somewhat different, but the reason was the same. There was a change in the properties of electronic components, mainly capacitors, in which the power supply could not provide a reliable start, affecting the operation of the entire system so that the indication was present, but the TV did not turn on. If in one case the fault was visible to the naked eye, then in another, a long process of diagnostic measures and measurements was required to localize it.
Eliminating an obvious defect in the power supply does not always lead to normal operation of the TV as a whole. In some cases, unstable power supply leads to loss of information in Eeprom and SpiFlash memory chips. At the same time, you can ensure that the TV turns on and goes into operating mode only by updating the software (firmware) on the programmer. The workshop is equipped with these devices in sufficient quantities for different types and packages of microcircuits. When doing repairs yourself, difficulties may arise with updating the firmware without equipment and a firmware database for television models, and contacting a service organization in such a situation is morally and economically justified.
Sometimes such troubles occur when there is a malfunction in the power circuits on the TV system board. Typically, this block contains several secondary sources made according to the circuit of DC-DC converters or voltage stabilizers. An indispensable condition for the correct operation of the processor and devices associated with it is a stable supply voltage in the voltage range at which their normal functionality is ensured. In cases where these conditions are not met, the consequences may be unpredictable, and the command to turn on the device may be ignored until the necessary power parameters are provided.
The indicator changes color to green and back to red
This behavior most often indicates that the processor generates a command to turn on the device and sends it to all executors. If one of the TV units does not carry out the command, for example, the power supply does not turn on in operating mode or the inverter is not able to start the backlight, then the processor, without receiving confirmation that everything is in order, cancels the switch on and puts the device back into standby mode. In Sharp LCD TVs, if there are five unsuccessful attempts to turn on the backlight, the processor blocks the startup completely, until errors are cleared through the service menu or until the contents of the Eeprom memory are replaced. This behavior will continue until the cause is eliminated: the defective lamps are replaced, the inverter, power supply or other faulty component of the television chassis is repaired.
The indicator changes color to green, but nothing happens
The situation is ambiguous and there may be many reasons for this behavior. In order to verify the functionality of the main board, the supply voltages are measured and commands to turn on the power, backlight, etc. are examined. It is possible that when you switch the TV to a channel with a customized program, sound will appear, and this already indicates that the cause of the malfunction most likely lies in the inverter or LED backlight power supply or radiation sources.
If the LED (light bulb) indicates the operating state, but no commands to turn on are received from the motherboard, the system does not respond to buttons and the remote control, software failures of the memory devices on the main board are quite possible. There are situations when the processor issues a command to turn on the power supply, but does not start the inverter, or issues the Dimm command, which determines the brightness of the backlight, in the absence of an On/Off command. In this case, software updates and firmware help return the normal sequence to the logical processes occurring on the motherboard.
In some cases, the appearance that nothing happens when turned on can be created by the motherboard blocking the supply of signals to the matrix controller or transmitting such information that the screen remains dark. The T-con itself may be faulty, as well as the LCD matrix itself. Each option is considered and diagnosed separately. The backlight turns on, but has a weakly defined character due to the reduced brightness of the image.
The indicator (light) constantly blinks chaotically
This state of the device only indicates a malfunction and does not contain significant information about possible problems. It is necessary to diagnose the entire device, starting with checking the power supply and secondary converters on the system board. Next, we examine the information exchange buses between the processor and memory chips, the processing of commands by the processor to turn on, and the processing of these commands by the peripheral components of the television chassis.
Update your TV's firmware
In some cases, to eliminate error 200 on LG TVs, it is worth updating the firmware of your TV. Please note that this requires certain skills, the absence of which may harm the operation of your TV.
The procedure itself is as follows:
- Download the latest firmware for your TV (for example, at webos-forums.ru/forum60.html);
- Take a flash drive and create a directory LG_DTV in its root directory;
- Copy the firmware file to this directory;
- Turn on your TV and connect this flash drive to it;
- The screen will display the message “Open content?”;
- Click on “No”, after which the system will offer you an update;
- Start your TV, do not turn it off until the update process is completed, and do not disconnect the flash drive from the TV;
- After the update is complete, try using the desired applications in the standard format.

Why doesn't the TV start?
An LG TV receiver may not show “signs of life” for many reasons, so there is no point in starting a chaotic check. It is necessary to sort out the possible breakdowns and then carry out an inspection. There can be three types of faults:
- Incorrect settings. The LG device does not turn on because... is blocked by settings that are activated by the user and are not related to the problem.
- System failure. Problem with software or third party applications.
- Peripheral problems. They arise as a result of incorrect operation of one of the devices connected to the TV.
- Hardware failures. Failure of the TV receiver itself.
A black screen after a network startup does not mean that the LG TV does not turn on.
This is the order in which you should inspect the TV, because... simpler problems occur more often and are easier to fix.
Reset your TV to factory settings
If all of the above methods do not help, we recommend resetting your TV to factory settings. This is usually done like this:
- Click on "Home" on the TV remote;
- Select “Settings” (gear icon);
- Next, click on “Advanced settings”;
- Then select the “General” section;
- There, find “Factory reset”;
- The TV will automatically reboot and the settings will be reset.
The indicator lights up steadily
Most problems with an LG TV that prevent it from turning on are not related to the power supply. If the power light comes on, the screen itself is immediately checked - perhaps it’s just not showing.
You can verify this by calling any menu:
- If calling the menu from the remote control and buttons on the case did not bring any results, then you can skip this section and move on to the next one;
- When the screen responds and the settings are displayed, the problem arises with the display itself.
In the second case, three options are possible:
- The antenna or its amplifier is faulty.
- The antenna jack or AV input is damaged.
- The TV channel settings are lost.
Advice! Finding a fault faster is as easy as shelling pears - use signal reception from another source. For example, display an image from a computer and see the results.
If it shows, there is a problem with the antenna, otherwise the problem may be with the firmware.
After successfully calling the menu, you can say that the LG Smart TV is working, but does not show
You need to perform a repeat auto-search for TV channels.
If this does not help, then the antenna with the socket is inspected. It is possible that it was blown around by a strong wind or that the amplifier failed. You can read more about this in the topic “TV does not show”.
If the TV just recently worked, but stopped turning on.
You need to pay attention to proactive screen blocking by settings or a third-party utility:
- Custom modes. These are “Energy Saving”, “Sleep” and other modes that can block operation or completely turn off the TV receiver immediately after startup. To do this, you need to check the settings on the TV and exit this mode. Afterwards you will need to deactivate the timer, otherwise it will start working again.
- Child protection. The mode differs from those described above in that it blocks the buttons on the TV body. And if the remote control is faulty, you won’t be able to get out of it right away. This will require a network restart. Afterwards it is deactivated in the same user settings.
- Third party utilities. Not all LG TV receivers support multifunctional operating modes and additional widgets are installed to obtain them. They will also need to be checked.
Advice! If this does not help, do not rush to update the software. Perhaps the failure is caused by a third-party utility, or a specific timer was not found simply due to lack of familiarity with the equipment. In this situation, resetting the current settings helps a lot.
All timers must be deactivated and disabled in the settings
After making changes to the settings, it is recommended to perform a network restart of the equipment, and then enter the settings again and check that the changes are saved.
Video instruction: resetting LG TV to factory settings
Firmware
An LG TV often does not turn on because the executive files (drivers) responsible for image output are damaged or the software is outdated. Searching for specific libraries and utilities is too routine; it is much better to completely reflash the TV.
But first you need to clarify what exactly happened to the software:
- If there is no information in the system settings, you can use an existing drive with a bootable firmware file;
- When there is a notification that the current version of the software is out of date, then an update over the network will be required.
Video instructions: how to restore the current software version or update the firmware of an LG TV.
In the second case, you will no longer be able to use the installation file, because it contains an outdated firmware version. You can learn more about this in the topic “How to flash a TV.” After installing the new software, the equipment will restart itself and turn on.
Common errors on TVs and how to fix them
There are still many errors that applications generate, due to which they can appear on any TV, regardless of the manufacturer. We have included them in a separate list for ease of analysis.
How to fix errors on TVs:
The entire list of error codes on TVs is simply immense, so we had to highlight the most common ones and make a brief excursion through them. If you didn't find the answer, couldn't figure out how to implement the advice, or encountered another error, ask questions in the comments.
Prevention for stable operation of the TV
Any digital device requires care and careful use to extend its service life.
For modern TVs, which have become more like computers (they have their own operating system), there are also some tips to keep them “living”.
- Most of all, any electrical appliance is “afraid” of voltage surges. Use UPS, stabilizers;
- You cannot leave the TV on for a long time. This applies to those who like to use it as a radio. Or fall asleep listening to the series, leaving to work until the morning;
- Make sure that the TV is not subjected to physical impacts (impacts, sharp shocks). There should not be any liquids nearby - water, tea, coffee, etc.
With careful use of any TV, you can significantly increase the time it is used. It is convenient to adhere to the last point if you mount the TV on the wall.
Incorrect source selected
Standby mode is the main reason the display stops working, but it does not turn off the device. That is, the plasma works, but this does not manifest itself in any way. Fixing this problem is extremely simple; just use the remote control and switch the mode by pressing the “Standby” key.
Let us immediately note that this option does not block the power adapter, so the screen always remains “ready”; of course, this negatively affects the performance of the device, since it becomes too vulnerable to voltage surges.
An incorrectly selected source is another reason why the TV does not turn on. It is possible that the user has previously activated AV or HDMI; therefore, to watch television broadcasts, you should switch to the original position. Sometimes this happens after the user has connected a laptop to the TV. You just need to switch the source using the remote control.
How to fix it?
You can only understand what to do if your LG TV breaks down and does not turn on after diagnosis. When a fault is detected, action can be taken. Depending on the situation, repair algorithms will be different.
No power supply
You need to look for the reasons why the current has disappeared correctly.
Power supply failure
Repairing or replacing the power supply requires dismantling the case, inside of which there are high-voltage parts, including those with a residual charge.
It is strictly forbidden to touch them with your hands or act in any other way without special training.
If the power system is blocked due to a power surge, characteristic clicks will be heard in the TV case. You won’t be able to solve the problem yourself - you need to contact a service center.
Also, the power supply may not work due to a swollen capacitor (in this case, when you try to turn on the TV, the TV will make a hum and whistle), burnout of the resistor . If you have some experience, you can unsolder them from the board yourself, buy new ones and install them. The faulty part is usually clearly visible to the naked eye.
The matrix or backlight has failed
This breakdown occurs even in new TVs. A burnt-out lamp or panel can be replaced in a workshop, but if the warranty period is still valid, it would be wiser to contact the seller to replace the defective equipment. If the manufacturer's fault is confirmed, the TV will be returned to the factory for recycling. Changing the matrix at your own expense is unreasonably expensive. Lamps can be replaced, but it is better not to do it yourself.
The remote control is faulty
To begin with, you can simply try replacing the batteries or checking their installation. If this does not help, you can download a special utility for your smartphone or tablet. It turns your mobile device into a full-fledged TV remote control. Such applications include TV-Remote, which works with gadgets on iOS and Android. You can also simply buy a new remote control that is compatible with a specific TV model or a universal one.
