Frequency table of the satellite
Yamal 201 (90.0° East)
uClan B6 Full HD
The receiver is available in two types of housings - metal and plastic. The cheapest receiver. Price at the time of review: 1270 rubles.
The menu and electronics are the same. Differences in cases. These are budget receivers with a simple and clear menu, designed to receive open channels from all satellites. After the firmware is installed, various undocumented capabilities are obtained.
These receivers do not find T2 MI channels on the Yamal 401 @ 90° East satellite in the C band in blind search mode. Only ordinary ones. But the problem can be solved quite simply by manually adding transponders, since there are not many of them.
The process of adding transponders goes like this:
Go to ANTENNA SETTINGS, select the Yamal 401 satellite, set the parameters of the 5150 converter and add a transponder, scan each transponder in manual mode.
We take transponder parameters from the website www.flysat.com.
Video of searching for T2 MI channels using the Uclan B6 receiver
The entire process of manually adding transponders and searching for them takes about 10 minutes, which is comparable to the duration of a blind search. The sensitivity of the tuner is quite enough for stable reception of channels on an antenna with a diameter of 180 cm in Novosibirsk. Unfortunately, the TV guide on this satellite does not work when receiving T2MI channels in the C band on the Uclan B6 receiver. This is likely due to the fact that the receiver has few resources to reduce the cost.
HD BOX S4K COMBO
The HD BOX S4K COMBO receiver is designed primarily for receiving 4K satellite channels. It has 2 tuners: satellite DVBS/S2 and terrestrial DVB T2.
Transponders with T2 MI channels are scanned in blind search mode, but the process is very long, about 15 minutes.
There is also a suspicion that the sensitivity of the tuner is lower than that of other tested models. At least, channels from weaker transponders, which other receivers showed almost without interruption, constantly crumbled on the HD BOX S4K COMBO receiver. Worse, the receiver would freeze after two or three seconds of operation in this mode, and only start working after turning the power off/on.
The TV guide is working.

Conclusions:
Thus, from the receivers presented in our store that receive T2MI channels, for the Yamal 401 @ 90° East satellite in the C band we can recommend:
Budget option - Uclan B6 HD, AVAKS 505HD
— Uclan B6 HD is the most inexpensive receiver, it quite normally receives Yamal 401 @ 90° East channels in the C band. The sensitivity of the tuner is quite sufficient when receiving on a direct-focus antenna with a diameter of 180 cm in Novosibirsk.
As sales practice for this receiver has shown (many were sold to regions where there is no digital terrestrial television), in most regions an antenna of this size is sufficient for stable reception of T2 MI channels with Yamal 401.
Advantages : low cost, sufficient sensitivity of the tuner.
Disadvantages - lack of a TV guide (obviously due to insufficient resources to ensure a lower cost of the receiver)
— AVAKS 505HD is slightly more expensive than the Uclan B6 HD receiver. This is due to a more modern element base and the presence of a card reader.
T2 MI channels is carried out in blind search mode, which simplifies the procedure as much as possible.
The sensitivity of the tuner is quite sufficient when receiving on a direct-focus antenna with a diameter of 180 cm in Novosibirsk.
There is also no TV guide, for the same reasons as the Uclan B6 HD.
Avaks 505HD
A budget receiver with a universal card reader, on a modern element base, with a simple and understandable menu, designed to receive open channels from all satellites. Has various undocumented capabilities. The price at the time of writing the review was 1530 rubles.
In blind search mode, the AVAKS 505HD receiver confidently finds all transponders with T2 MI channels on the Yamal 401 @ 90° East satellite in the C band. The search process takes about 10 minutes. The sensitivity of the tuner is quite enough for stable reception of channels on an antenna with a diameter of 180 cm in Novosibirsk.
Unfortunately, the TV guide on this satellite does not work when receiving T2MI channels in the C band on the AVAKS 505HD receiver.
Video of T2MI channel search by AVAKS 505HD receiver
Uclan Denys H.265, Uclan Denys H.265 Pro Combo
Uclan Denys H.265 and Uclan Denys H.265 Pro Combo are quite expensive receivers. The cost at the time of writing is 3530 rubles. and 4570 rub. respectively.
Receivers with rich software, with very large undocumented capabilities, a large number of IPTV applications.
Transponders with T2 MI channels in the Ku band are confidently scanned in blind search mode, which cannot be said about scanning T2 MI on the Yamal 401 @ 90° East satellite in the C band.
But in the manual search mode using transponders, scanning is successful. In 10 min. You can add and scan all transponders without any problems.
Reception is stable on all transponders.
The TV guide is working.
Satellite communications
There are quite a large number of satellite providers in Russia, but before making a connection, it is worth understanding the basic principles and differences of this type of television broadcasting.
Satellite television broadcasting is a system for transmitting signals through artificial repeaters. This type of broadcasting involves the use by the consumer of special antenna equipment, which serves as a signal receiver at a given frequency. The user complex includes a receiver, satellite converter and antenna. The operation of the complex is due to the serial connection of devices and parameter settings.
A distinctive feature of satellite television and communications is to ensure good signal reception, regardless of weather conditions and distance from administrative (regional) centers.
Hope for dumping
But high Internet penetration in the country is unlikely to be the main obstacle. The VSAT market exists in Russia, even if its volumes are far from the American one. In the “heated” European and Western Siberian territory, Yamal-601 will face more serious problems: competition and building sales mechanics. It is unlikely that it will be possible to grow at an accelerated pace due to the low base effect with the current configuration - all the cream from this territory has already been skimmed by Express.
Previously, GKS, as an Internet provider, acted only in rotational camps of gas producers, offering Internet access in the Ku-band. True, working with partner providers in the Ku- and Ka-bands is different. In the first case, the satellite operator allocates part of the capacity to the provider, and the provider sells the service through its own hub, based on its understanding of the market. In Ka-band, all work takes place on the ground segment of the operator, and the intermediary is present either as a virtual network operator (VNO) or as a dealer.
Sales of “Expresses” are now carried out through large intermediary providers (AltegroSky, SenSat, Raduga-Internet, Strizh and others) and dealers, in particular, the sale of Ka-band capacities of the Express-AMU1 satellite is carried out by Tricolor, which has a dealer network in all regions of Russia, including small towns. But how and when sales of the Ka-band GKS will be carried out is still unknown. Representatives of some companies potentially interested in working with this satellite operator told a Telesputnik correspondent that sales will most likely begin in early February, which will be announced at CSTB-2020. Now on the website new.gazpromcosmos.ru, specially created for selling Internet access from Yamal series satellites, potential subscribers are invited to submit a request to connect to Yamal-601. The contact center also offers to leave a request, but does not specify the time frame when it will be possible to physically receive the access service from the new spacecraft.
Among the partners, only Gilat, Newtec and NoLimit Electronic (NLE) are mentioned on the site. In the “Dealers” section it is said that more than 1000 dealers work with GCS (without listing their addresses), an offer to become a participant in the dealer program has been published, and short instructions have been given for preliminary configuration of the modem in the Ka-band. In the "Blogs" tab you can find three publications dated October 31, 2021. One of them is called “How to survive in the village. The real story of a designer: it tells that a girl, living in the outback, connected to satellite Internet from Gazprom Space Systems and can now watch TV series in the evenings.
However, Telesputnik was unable to find confirmed cases of use of Internet access through Yamal-601 by private or legal entities. One of the reasons why GCS has not started connecting to the Ka-band, market participants cite the lack of necessary VSAT equipment from the satellite operator’s partners. One of the interlocutors in the satellite communications market told Telesputnik that GKS itself now has about 100 sets in stock. Major Russian Ka-Internet providers do not offer connection to the new satellite.
It seems that GCS's main weapon in the fight for Ka-subscribers will be dumping. With a Yamal-601 throughput of 30 Gbit/s, the operator offers to connect to unlimited tariffs for 750 rubles and 1850 rubles. For comparison: SenSat’s unlimited tariffs start at 2.6 thousand rubles and are available only from the Express-AMU1 satellite. But even low tariffs are unlikely to help GKS gain 300 thousand subscribers in five years if the operator cannot come to an agreement with dealers and partner providers and launch massive promotion of its service.
