Why doesn’t the TV see the digital television set-top box and how to fix it?

The most common malfunction of digital television set-top boxes is the failure of the power supply. In such an unpleasant case, it is very good if the model of the console had an external adapter, buy a new one and look further! And if not! And was the power supply built into the console itself? Then you will have to repair or purchase a new one. But perhaps there is an easy way out!

Hello, dear readers! In this article I want to share one simple repair method that anyone who knows how to hold a screwdriver and a soldering iron can do! Moreover, it is not necessary to master these instruments masterfully.

I’m also not going to tell you anything overly complicated in the field of electronics repair; this is the domain of professionals. On the contrary, I will try to describe everything in such a way that even a non-specialist could cope and eliminate this malfunction.

I’ll immediately make a reservation that this method is not suitable for all models of consoles, but for many, since they are often made according to a very similar scheme for this case. Everything will be based on a specific example of a set-top box from the D-Color company, namely the DC1401HD model. So, having understood this “high technology”, you can repair your digital television set-top box yourself.

What else could be the reason

The most common problem is antennas and cables. The first ones are a little easier: just make sure that the decimeter one is used (they are supplied without long elements, so they stand out in their compact sizes). Sometimes it is replaced with a Polish grid, in which case it is necessary to estimate the distance to the relay tower: if it is close, then the amplifier will need to be dismantled.

An important point is monitoring the position of the antenna. It always turns towards the repeater. Also, there should be no signal-screening obstacles between it and the tower.

The next stage is cable inspection. The easiest way to check the plug and connections: the central core should not come into contact with the shielding braid. If everything is in order there, you should use a tester or connect to a known working antenna to determine the integrity of the cable. Broken and burnt out will require replacement. Otherwise, you should contact a telemaster.

Root Causes of Problems

If the connection is correct and there are no problems, after connecting the set-top box to the TV, you need to configure the channels for viewing. But, if a message about no signal appears on the screen, it means that you will first have to determine the cause of the problem, and then try to find a solution on your own.

Incorrect connection

One of the most common reasons for the lack of a signal from the set-top box is the user’s incorrect connection scheme to the TV. Although, only after detecting the absence of a signal, you should check whether the video channel on the TV is selected correctly. So, there will be no picture if the set-top box is connected via tulips (RCA connectors), and HDMI is selected on the TV receiver. If the user is not sure what exactly the desired port is called, they should check all the options.

Set-top boxes can be connected to TVs released several years ago using RCA connectors. On the receiver these are sockets painted in different colors. To transmit stereo sound - in yellow, red and white, for monophonic sound - in yellow-green and white. Another type of connector is SCART, wide, with numerous sockets arranged in 2 rows.

If there are many ports on the set-top box and TV, the user may get confused when connecting. For example, connecting a digital tuner with a cable to the RCA output of a TV - although in fact this should be done using a cord with a SCART plug. To avoid mistakes, you should consider the following rules:

  • on the set-top box the cable is connected to the outputs (INPUT);
  • on the TV - to the inputs (OUTPUT);
  • connection cords are often not included with the digital tuner, and if there is no cable suitable for connection, you will have to buy it separately.

You can avoid problems by connecting both devices via HDMI connectors, if both the TV and the set-top box have them. Firstly, in this case it is impossible to make a mistake (the port is both an input and an output). Secondly, the image quality is higher, and the number of cords is limited to only one.

Cable problem or poor connection

If the connection is made correctly, but the signal from the set-top box still does not arrive at the TV receiver, continue to look for the reasons by checking the cable. First, you should check the connection points and the plug, making sure that the shielding braid does not touch the central core. This problem arises due to prolonged use or mechanical damage to the cord, and is solved either by repairing it or purchasing a new one.

The cable may be damaged inside, under the protective sheath. You can check this using a tester - or by connecting the same cord to other devices. If no image appears during the check, the problem is with the cable; if not, it’s something else. It is easier to solve the problem without repairing it, but by replacing the faulty cord.

Sometimes during the testing process you can discover that the lack of signal was caused not by damage, but by a poor cable connection. You can verify this by disconnecting the cord from the input connector on both the TV and the set-top box, and then reconnect by firmly inserting the plugs into both connectors. When unplugging cords, devices must be unplugged.

Old TV

Problems can also be caused by a TV that is too old and does not have the appropriate firmware. You can try to reflash modern TV receivers with LCD screens. For TV receivers with Smart TV, this can be done via the Internet. For other models, you will have to use the TV menu and firmware recorded on a USB drive.

Old TV models that do not have tulip-type connectors and SCART ports cannot be connected to the set-top box for one simple reason - due to the lack of the necessary cord. To connect, you will have to use an antenna input - and a special tuner with a suitable output and input. The problem can be avoided if you take into account the peculiarities of the old TV at the stage of purchasing the set-top box. If you already have a tuner, you will have to buy a new external device - or another TV receiver.

The process of connecting the set-top box differs in settings. The antenna is connected to the ANT IN port of the TV tuner and the antenna cable to the TV socket. Auto-tuning of channels on the TV is turned on to check which of them the picture from the set-top box appears on. After scanning, the detected frequency is selected and the setting for the TV tuner is selected.

Other reasons

One of the common mistakes is trying to watch TV with the tuner turned off. Even regular users may encounter this problem if they did not pay attention to the color of the indicator or simply forgot to press the remote control button. The LED on the switched-on set-top box should be green. If the cause of the problem has been determined correctly, the logo of the tuner manufacturer or operator providing digital broadcasting services will appear on the TV screen.

And the set-top box may simply fail and not turn on due to a faulty power supply - contacting service will help resolve the issue. If the cause is incorrect operation of the digital tuner software, it will have to be reflashed. The new firmware can be found on the Internet on the manufacturer’s website - or save your time by contacting the service.

The signal from the set-top box may not reach the TV receiver due to incorrect antenna location. To solve the problem you should do the following:

  • Make sure that there are no serious obstacles on the path between the antenna and the repeater (TV tower) - brick fences, high hills, house walls.
  • If there is an obstacle, raise the antenna to the required height by securing it to the roof or mast.
  • For areas with poor reception, you should immediately choose a tuner with a built-in amplifier - or buy an external device to amplify the signal.

If there is no signal, the indoor antenna should be installed on a windowsill or balcony. And in a city apartment that is not located on the first floor, you can even take it out the window. Having determined the optimal position, you should rotate the antenna circle until a good signal is obtained.

Causes of failure of the DVB-T2 digital set-top box

In recent years, more and more countries are switching to digital television. This broadcast technology has many advantages. It is protected from external interference, so the viewer can enjoy a clearer picture and good sound. According to international obligation, analogue TV must be switched off completely.

Modern TVs have a built-in receiver, but if the device is not capable of receiving a digital channel, you will need to additionally buy a special DVB-T2 set-top box. A decimeter antenna is also connected.

There are several most likely reasons why the digital television set-top freezes:

Weak signal

In the case of analog television, the picture becomes distorted, various noises appear, and colors disappear. In the case of digital broadcasting, the picture freezes. Also a sign of a weak signal are cubes on the screen breaking the picture, and if the signal weakens even more, the picture disappears completely. Owners of satellite dishes often encounter a similar problem, but it usually occurs during bad weather.

Bad weather

Its phenomenon is less pronounced, but in a severe thunderstorm the set-top box can freeze completely. The signal received from the tuner must be higher than the minimum value, otherwise in bad weather you will have to temporarily stop watching your favorite programs. It is also worth checking whether the antenna is properly secured and inspecting all connections along the cable path to the TV itself.

Digital television may not show for other reasons: an old receiver or a location outside the digital TV reception area. Assuming that the device itself is working properly, the reason is an incorrect setting.

The first step is to perform an automatic channel search; if it does not bring the expected results, it is recommended to perform manual tuning. If the problem is a lack of signal, then this is a common sign of a malfunctioning antenna or its incorrect connection.

How to set up a satellite dish yourself

To set up a satellite dish yourself, you need to:

  • go to the operator’s website and find an angle calculator;
  • enter satellite coordinates and find out your location;
  • aim the antenna at the satellite using the data obtained earlier.

Find your current location

possible using a regular smartphone. As a rule, their accuracy is sufficient to select the optimal direction of the plate.

If you often have problems with a lack of signal, then information about methods will be useful to you. This may require . In any case, this is a solvable problem, both for old TVs and new ones.

Everyone who lives in the age of high technology is sure that these technologies are designed to make life easier. This is true, although there are situations that can contribute to nervous tension rather than relaxation. For example, when some of your favorite TV channels disappear. Naturally, this is far from the best experience, especially when you want to watch TV, but it throws up similar, not very pleasant surprises.

If you also encounter a similar problem, then there is no need to rush to a television repairman, especially since this may take some time. If you wish, you can try to restore digital channels on the TV yourself. Of course, a 100% return of their broadcast cannot be guaranteed, but, as a rule, independent manipulations help.

Frequent connection problems

Broken image

If the image is pixelated or interrupted, then it is not a fault of your receiver, but the signal that is sent to it is too weak. This is often accompanied by a temporary loss of sound or a complete lack of reception and the appearance of the “No Signal” message.

Look for a better antenna direction, try using the reflected signal. Another reason for a weak signal is the absence or interruption of contact in the cable or connector. Check the cable connecting the antenna to the decoder. Make sure that it is not damaged or broken and that the connectors at its ends are installed correctly and securely.

If the pixelated image only appears on some channels, you may have a problem with your specific multiplexer.

Image black and white

The probable cause is that you connected the cable to the wrong connector. You should also check the image settings in the tuner and select PAL or AVTO mode there. The receiver itself may also be faulty.

Some channels are missing

If you only receive some of the terrestrial channels, then either your antenna is not installed correctly, or some channels have changed transmission parameters and need to be searched again. To solve this, run automatic update of the channel list.

All channels are missing

The extreme case where you get literally no DVB-T2 channels has many causes. But check the most likely ones:

  • If so far you have received channels without any problems, then this may be maintenance work on the repeater. This is a momentary loss of signal;
  • If you have just connected a digital TV set-top box to your TV, then check that the equipment is connected correctly and the signal source is selected on the TV. Did you do everything correctly? Run an automatic channel scan.

Another possible problem

Some satellite, cable and digital set-top boxes can generate a signal for HDMI, but, nevertheless, you have to set a reduced resolution in the menu of such a tuner, otherwise signal reception will deteriorate significantly.

Selection and installation of a mast

Another pressing practical task is the installation of the mast. It is optimal to place the bracket directly on the wall, using the height of the house. There are also brackets on sale that are attached to the gable roof beam with self-tapping screws. An added bonus is that you can install it alone.

Another common budget solution, time-tested, is to use a “sushina” (dried wood, pole) tied to a stepson (reinforced concrete or metal post, dug close to the house).

Installation of the mast on the gable

You can’t go past the less common option - a telescopic mast made of several links. It can be secured in a vertical position with retractable brackets to the house. The advantage of the solution is that grounding, although not carried out in compliance with all GOSTs, is provided automatically. There is a considerable probability that the discharge will not go to the TV or receiver.

Before installing the mast, it is better to think about proper lightning protection. Unfortunately, there are numerous nuances and subtleties here. so that it is almost impossible for a non-professional to protect equipment from lightning. Therefore, during lightning strikes and in advance, it is better to de-energize the system and disconnect the antenna from the TV.

If all else fails

If there is no result after following all the instructions, then the antenna or DVD T2 is most likely faulty. Replace the antenna and try to start again. Try also testing a different model of the set-top box to make sure it is faulty. If the set-top box is really not working, you must return it along with the warranty card. You can tune in channels without a set-top box if the DVD T2 is automatically built into the TV.

Setting up the console yourself is easy if you follow the ready-made instructions. But if you can’t cope with this task for a long time, it’s rational to call a specialist who will set everything up and explain how to work with it.

Endlessly running rabbit

Children really like the first turn on of some models of IPTV set-top boxes, as a rabbit appears on the screen, and then a cartoon “about hares” is shown. In fact, this is a problem related to the failure to receive firmware from Rostelecom via multicast. There may be two reasons for this:

  • There was an error setting up the router, and in this case the set-top box may be assigned the wrong IP address. Setting the port for STB can help in this case, and do not forget to make sure that IGMP Snooping is enabled.
  • Problems related to hardware configuration errors on the part of the service provider. This rarely happens, and only technical service employees can deal with the problem.

Set-top box connection guide

So, you bought a DVB-T2 receiver, prepared the necessary cables and antenna, let's start connecting the TV:

  • We connect the antenna plug to the corresponding connector on the set-top box;
  • We connect the “tulip” according to the colors on the console;
  • We look for the necessary ports on the TV and connect the second end of the cord;
  • We plug both devices into the outlet;
  • Switch the TV to AV mode. On modern TVs, the AV, HDMI, SCART and other menus will appear - you need to select the interface that was used when connecting the set-top box. On old TVs there will be AV1 and AV2 - select the one where the image appears;
  • We are looking for digital channels - go to the receiver menu, turn on automatic search. After the process is completed, we save the found channels.

What else do you need to know. You can even connect 2 TVs to the receiver through a special splitter. But at the same time the same thing will be broadcast on them. But if you use different interfaces for connection (for example, connect one TV with a “tulip”, the second with HDMI), then we get two independent receivers.

And here is a video with a story about connecting a tube receiver to digital TV:

Preventative work

If your TV says “no signal” in extremely rare cases, your operator may be carrying out maintenance work to eliminate delays and other problems in broadcasting the TV signal. The only way out of this situation is to wait until the preventive work comes to an end. It is quite simple to distinguish one reason for the lack of a signal from another:

  • take the remote control from the receiver;
  • enter the system menu;
  • check if there is a message “no signal” in the receiver menu.

If the device starts writing about the lack of signal in its system menu, it means that the problem lies in your operator’s satellite

. In some cases, the set-top box may freeze (for cable TV subscribers). Try rebooting the device: disconnect from the network, and after 30 seconds turn it on again. Perhaps the problem will go away. The same steps can be done with.

In any case, it would be a good idea to contact your digital television provider to find out what to do in this situation.

How to fix the problem

The problem of no sound can be solved in several ways. The simplest option is to purchase an additional device and connect it using the S/PDIF connector. The nest can be found on the back of the receiver, next to the usual tulips. SP Digital Interface is designed to output sounds in digital format. When the tuner does not have sufficient decoding capabilities, another device does the job for playing audio files. Not all set-top boxes are equipped with an S/PDIF connector; you will need to connect the tuner to your TV using an HDMI cable.

The second method requires a personal computer. You will also need a special program for decoding Virtual TUB video and skills to work with it. The "naughty file" is converted by the application into an MP3 audio track. The process will take less time if the transcoding is performed using a more powerful device.

When using set-top boxes from different providers, the sound may disappear when trying to play a file from external media. A USB connector is located on the body of modern STB receivers. If there is no sound through a digital set-top box when playing files from external media, the reason most likely lies in the support of certain codecs.

The ability to view content directly from media appeared relatively recently. A few years ago, many operators offered subscribers to place files from a flash drive into cloud storage, where they were decoded, and then written back to a USB drive. Due to the high load, the reformatting process could take from several days to several weeks, which caused dissatisfaction among users. Since 2013, leading operators have abandoned the automatic decoding system and began to supply devices capable of reading most audio formats.

If there is no sound on the Rostelecom set-top box

Not all users were able to take advantage of this feature because in many cases no sound was produced. The times of silent films are a thing of the past; it is not surprising that the situation is puzzling. So why is there no sound on the digital set-top box? The device produces tracks in MP3 format, and movies and video files are often encoded in AC3.

After the country completely switched to digital, the need arose to purchase modern TV receivers or special equipment in the form of a set-top box. Among providers providing digital TV services to subscribers, Rostelecom is especially popular. Despite all the advantages and technical capabilities of the devices supplied by the operator, everyone may experience a situation where the image or sound disappears.

To understand why the sound disappeared on the Rostelecom digital set-top box, it is not necessary to contact a specialist for help. Errors in broadcasting are often associated with failures on the part of the provider. In this case, it is recommended to contact the company’s technical department and describe your problem in detail.

Also, difficulties with playing audio tracks may arise due to problems with the equipment. If there was sound at first, and then suddenly disappeared, it is worth considering the following reasons:

  • one of the wires is disconnected;
  • contact connectors have become loose;
  • Silent mode was accidentally activated.

Owners of set-top boxes from Rostelecom are recommended to perform the following steps:

  • reboot the digital set-top box;
  • disconnect and then reconnect all cables;
  • reflash the receiver, resetting the settings to factory settings;
  • owners of modern TVs can reboot the receiver itself, it could freeze.

To perform a reset, you will need to open the main menu of the receiver, go to the system settings section and find the “Restore factory settings” item. To confirm, click on the “Ok” button. It is possible to restore normal operation of the tuner using another method. To do this, press and hold the “Menu” button on the remote control module. After this, select the “Factory Reset” command, save the parameters and reboot the equipment.

Digital TV freezes - what to do?

If broadcasts slow down for a TV viewer using a receiver, it is recommended:

  1. check the relevance of the software version installed on the set-top box (by comparing the information in the receiver menu with the instructions on the provider’s website);
  2. make sure the wires are connected correctly to the set-top box and TV;
  3. If the provider stopped showing TV after updating the receiver, roll back the software to a working version.

Sometimes a simple reboot of the receiver helps solve problems. In addition, some errors in which the image disappears can be corrected by resetting the receiver to factory settings.

If the above steps do not help, you will have to call the provider’s contact center and the repair shop. As a result, the user will learn about malfunctions in the broadcaster or call a technician who will repair the equipment.

Why does digital television freeze with or without a set-top box: reasons, what to do? Link to main publication

Selecting a TV antenna

When digital television does not show, you need to purchase a narrowly directional outdoor antenna - a “wave channel” or a broadly directional “panel” antenna.

If the distance is up to 20 kilometers, using an antenna with a built-in amplifier is not advisable.

When purchasing, pay attention to the manufacturer. Most often, antenna equipment developers from Russia (who do not resell Chinese products) have adopted engineering experience from the USSR and are highly qualified. Therefore, the antenna corresponds to the declared characteristics and is effective. And most importantly, it is adapted to our reception conditions and operating ranges.

We recommend our rating of antennas for digital TV, which will help you choose a quality model.

It is better not to order antenna equipment on Alixpress. Even judging by the image of the Chinese antenna, one can understand that the declared characteristics in reality are 5-10 decibels lower. Not to mention the “industrial” type high-frequency cable included in the kit, which leads to a catastrophic loss of the useful signal.

Homemade antenna for digital TV. Read how to do it here.

Hardware faults

Often, the absence of channels may be the result of erroneous connection of devices or incorrect connection of them to other connectors. Firstly, you need to ensure that the set-top box is not connected incorrectly. The correct algorithm of actions should be as follows:

  • the digital antenna and amplifier are connected to the receiver with separate cables;
  • The set-top box is connected to the TV using an HDMI or AV cable, and to the computer via a VGA connector. Only in this case will the TV be able to “see” the receiver.

If everything is connected correctly, you should check how each device works separately:

  1. TV can be connected via a regular terrestrial antenna or computer and the result can be analyzed.
  2. If during the process of auto-tuning channels on the set-top box, it will not be able to find them, but the picture will change - the reason is the digital antenna (receiver).

The last step is to check the quality of the signal entering the set-top box. This can be done on the website: https://karta.rtrs.rf. After entering the name of the locality, the results will appear in the form of a coverage map of the broadcast area. The quality of the signal is greatly influenced not by the type of multiplex generation (1 or 2), but by its distance.

If an amplifier is connected and the picture on the screen is of poor quality, this indicates a weak signal or insufficient antenna power to obtain a high-resolution image.

If digital channels do not appear on your TV, you will need to purchase a different antenna. Branded amplifiers are available for sale for models from well-known manufacturers.

Summarizing

You need to determine why digital television is not working. And if it's a matter of signal strength, then increase it . Or try to tune it by manipulating the antenna. That is, display information about the signal strength on the screen and begin to quietly turn the antenna. Most likely, you will be able to find an antenna position at which both multiplexes will work well.

If nothing helps at all, you can contact the support center for the federal digital TV program in your region, they will help you and give you advice completely free of charge. At least my email was answered the next day.

Recommendations

When repairing television set-top boxes at home, the main problem is finding replacement parts.

This works in the case of conductors, housing elements, and buttons. A swollen capacitor, input or board is replaced with a new part or picked up on the radio market, in a service center.

You should not undertake repairs yourself only in a number of cases. Among the most relevant reasons, we note the following.

Availability of a valid manufacturer's warranty. When you open the case yourself, in most cases the seals are broken. After this, it will no longer be possible to replace even a defective product under warranty. All that remains is to buy a new device. If breakdowns occur in this case, you must immediately contact the service center recommended by the seller or manufacturer.

The feasibility of repairing the set-top box yourself is limited by a rather narrow set of its modules. You can resolder the inputs, flash the memory, change the power supply or converter board.

When doing home renovations, it is important to prepare your work area thoroughly. You will need an insulating mat - it is convenient to lay out fasteners on it and perform soldering

The list of required tools should include screwdrivers, a soldering iron, and a multimeter.

Repair of a TV set-top box (DVB-T2 receiver) is presented in the video below.

What to do if the T2 signal periodically disappears

Again, more details are needed. A common case of intermittent signal loss is in:

  • An amplifier that burned out after a thunderstorm.
  • Oxidized antenna contacts.
  • A power supply that has failed.
  • Damage to cable insulation.
  • Problem with the tower (can be found out by asking neighbors about the problem).

Most likely, the reason is on your side and it is not connected with the receiver and TV, but with the antenna equipment.

Do-it-yourself digital TV signal amplifier - diagram

Before we look at the instructions for assembling your own amplifier, let's study the types of antennas currently in use:

  1. Telscopic. Another name is core. It is characterized by simple manufacturing and is used at a distance of up to 5 km from the tower. It has circular polarization, which allows it to detect various radio waves.
  2. Patch antennas. Basically, rectangular elements protected by plastic are used in production. Has vertical and horizontal polarization. The main advantage is the increased coefficient of gain and the ability to accept re-reflection.
  3. Wave channel. Is the most used option. It is a structure of directors, reflectors and vibrators located on a traverse. The wave channel is often placed outdoors; models with reflectors can be found. They are also often equipped with amplifiers and filters.
  4. Zigzag. The main advantage is the ease of assembly and the ability to accept reflection. That is, zigzag antennas can be easily assembled at home.

You can amplify the digital signal of a TV antenna at home using the last option, that is, using a zigzag antenna. In this case, the gain will depend on the number of squares. This way you can assemble the structure yourself, spending a minimum of money.

If you have any questions or complaints, please let us know

The antenna amplifier can be easily assembled at home using the diagram. It will not require much power, will not cause interference, and the frequency range will not exceed 900 MHz. Low voltage equipment powered from 3 to 5V will consume no more than 3 mA.

What is the operating principle of such equipment? Pay attention to the diagram where input 1 is shown - voltage is supplied through it. Having a resistor labeled R1 connected to input 2 will shift the voltage to the operating area

Output 6 accepts the input signal, and the amplified signal will be taken from the third node and sent directly to the receiver.

Where to call if there is no digital television signal?

A malfunction on the repeater may well be the cause of the “no signal for digital channels” message. Remember that television transmitter infrastructure is maintained by people. They can be wrong too. Therefore, the repeater may be de-energized or the equipment may fail.

We recommend calling the CETV hotline number: 8-800-220-20-02.

For a temporary solution, you can try pointing the antenna towards another broadcast tower. You can find the tower closest to you using the digital television coverage map.

The digital set-top box does not find channels - what to do?

There are several ways to search for channels, which we describe in detail below. If your digital set-top box does not pick up channels, try:

  • check the coverage;
  • make sure the integrity of the antenna and its direction vector;
  • correct channel settings;

After checking these points, all channels should show.

Checking the coverage

If you notice any problems, open the website www.rtrs.ru. Specify your region and see the broadcast frequency. If you are too far from the tower you need an amplifier.

Does TV support digital TV

To clarify the information whether a specific model supports digital. To do this, open the manufacturer’s website and enter the model name. The TV series is indicated on the back of the gadget. The parameters can also be clarified in the instructions. If the TV supports DVD T2, then the channels are displayed thanks to auto search.

Antenna and TV cable integrity

Sometimes there is no signal because the signal from your home antenna is too weak. An amplifier is required to resolve this problem.

It is also important to ensure the integrity of the television cable. Sometimes minor deformations prevent the signal from forming a picture on TV

Antenna location

The location of the antenna also plays a significant role. If on a loaded map the tower of the first multiplex and the tower of the second multiplex are in different directions, then it is necessary to build it so that the signal is received from both sides. The horizon should be free of bumps, tall buildings, trees and industry. They can disrupt the signal. Interference from electrical appliances can also harm signal quality. Then you need to look for the place where the antenna works best.

But keep in mind the important facts:

  • an indoor antenna always receives a worse signal;
  • much better with an amplifier than without it;

Please note that amplifiers can be active or passive. The first option is much more effective. Try placing the antenna in another room

There are many buildings nearby, then try installing it on the roof

Try placing the antenna in another room. There are many buildings nearby, then try installing it on the roof.

Setting up the channels correctly

An important problem is the incorrect connection of the tuner to the TV and other elements. To eliminate the cause, check the following parameters:

  • for connection uses a 75 ohm cable;
  • correct connection of the set-top box to the tuner;
  • correct use of amplification blocks.

The wire used must guarantee good transmission. Observe the standards for no signal attenuation

It is also important to pay attention to the connectors of bells, scarts and other systems. Immediately when purchasing a new TV, check which connectors are available.

If there are “friezes” (the picture falls apart into cubes)

We look at the signal level. To see the signal level, find the INFO button (or something similar) on the remote control and press it three times: you will see this:

Reception is on the verge of quality - only 36%

The same thing may happen to you if you are far from the tower, or there are many buildings around that interfere with reception .

Important: if both the intensity and quality are low, the signal must be amplified.

Either buy an antenna with an amplifier, or put the existing one outside, raise it higher, and so on.

The TV or set-top box does not find all channels

If the number of TV channels broadcast has sharply decreased, there is no need to panic. A few simple steps will help you get your missing content back. To begin with, you should perform an automatic search. The algorithm of actions looks like this:

  1. Using the remote control, you need to open the main settings menu.
  2. After going to the settings section of the digital receiver, open the automatic search section and start the scanning mode.
  3. If channels appear, the main thing is to remember to save the changes.
  4. If necessary, the channel arrangement may need to be changed.

If this method does not bring a satisfactory result and digital TV shows only 10 channels, you should proceed to manual tuning.

The preliminary stage of searching for programs will require you to find out some data from the service provider: multiplex broadcast frequency, modulation, and channel broadcast speed. There is a lot of useful information on the website rtrs.ru. There is also a convenient and practical interactive map with which you can find the TV tower closest to your house and find out the channel frequency, etc. When all the necessary characteristics are known, you will need to re-open the main menu of the set-top box or TV and go to the “Manual Search” tab. You need to enter the received data in the drop-down fields.

Why are only 10 out of 20 digital channels shown?

Over the past two or three years, digital television users have often complained that after updating channels, half of the programs that were shown before disappear. Since then, people have a logical question: why did 10 channels disappear if they used to work and were free?

They are trying to find out the answer to this question on many forums, which is why different versions are put forward. For some, the channels of the first multiplex do not work, for others, the second. This suggests that the reasons for these troubles lie in various difficulties in signal reception associated with technical work or the peculiarities of the functioning of digital television.

Perhaps after some time the channels will restore their broadcasting, so you shouldn’t worry in advance about where ten popular channels have disappeared at once. RTRS clarifies that for now the work is being carried out in test mode, so for some regions such difficulties will become the norm. Sometimes searching for channels again or reflashing the set-top box helps, but if this is not your case, you can use analog or satellite television, where the signal works without such significant interruptions.

Digital television is a modern alternative to standard TV. With this technology, image quality becomes significantly better at the same cost. The essence of this technology is that the signals are a sequence of digital combinations of electrical pulses. Digital technologies provide new opportunities for transmitting and receiving data.

It has its advantages. For example, mobility. There is no longer any need to run wires and cables; all you need is a TV, an antenna, a digital receiver and a power outlet. This is an autonomous system that you can take with you, for example, to the country and watch TV programs with the same high-quality signal as in the city. In addition, digital TV has a large number of broadcasts, and you can also access the Internet, TV guide, etc.

Not all channels broadcast

If all of the above has been checked and done, and the output of the TV with a satellite receiver and dish produces a weak signal, and in some places there is none at all, perform the initial setup of the receiver to receive a satellite signal:

  1. Open the menu, select the desired satellite and frequency.
  2. Information about specific channels can be taken from the “info” information. This data is also available on the Internet, in the public domain.
  3. Afterwards, select the correct port. Typically, this is a 4-port "DiSEqC".
  4. If colored stripes appear (signal quality), save the settings.
  5. Then, set up other satellites in the same way.

If your TV loses signals from the antenna from time to time, the tuner is to blame. More precisely, a decoder that needs to be flashed

It is important to note that decoder firmware and tuner firmware are two different things. For this purpose, it is recommended to take the tuner to a service center or replace it with a new one

Example from life

I already wrote that I caught the first number on simple “horns” in the city center, on the second floor and there are few buildings around. The signal quality is excellent. Intensity 80%, quality 60-80%

The higher the quality and intensity, the better

But when I moved to another area of the city, to an apartment on the 9th floor, a house in a low area and many other houses around – these horns did not catch anything. More precisely, the auto search did not catch anything. I was very surprised (the tower is located nearby), I entered the frequency manually through a manual search (which I advise you to do), and it turned out that the signal level was 10-15%! This is clearly not enough for reliable reception of digital TV.

Incorrect software adjustments

Often the reason for the lack of digital TV channels on the set-top box is incorrect settings or their confusion.

Common situations:

  • the user's erroneous selection of a channel on TV leads to their absence or a search for only analogue broadcasting. In this case, you will need to check the type of cable connected (usually DVB-T2);
  • The presence of old firmware in the software often causes the receiver to incorrectly search for channels at various frequencies, since the manufacturer has stopped supporting outdated software. The settings allow you to update the software directly through the digital set-top box.

Important! When all channels have disappeared, there is no need to rush - the problem may not be in the software settings, but may be a consequence of the cases described below

The remote control doesn't work

Another situation when the remote control on the Selenga console does not work. In this case, the tuner does not respond to user commands in any way. The following steps may help:

  1. Check that the remote control is working properly. To do this, turn on the camera in your smartphone, point the remote control at it and press different buttons. If you see the indicator light, it means the device is working properly and is working. If the light bulb does not respond, replace the remote control, repair it, or simply change the batteries.
  2. Reboot the Selenga console.
  3. Update your software.
  4. Check the operation of the receiver with another remote control or using a program on your phone.

In most cases, if the remote control does not work, the reason is precisely in the remote control, and the set-top box itself is working.
