U2C S+ MiniHD has a very small size, which makes it possible to place it behind the TV, however, the kit does not include any mount for such placement.

Bad, but not critical! To attach the remote IR receiver, you can find double-sided tape in the kit.

The U2C S+ line of receivers is different.

So U2C S+ MiniHD has differences in the color of the receiver itself and the remote control. The older model is divided into 3 models: U2C S+ Maxi HD (RCA), U2C S+ Maxi HD (Scart) and U2C S+ Maxi HD RF.

From the names it is clear that the first two options differ in the connection method, or rather, even in the connector. The third option excludes the possibility of using a connection via RCA or SCART, but allows the use of an RF modulator.

The software is suitable for all types of receivers.

The receiver's remote control is quite compact, but at the same time includes all the necessary buttons for comfortable control.

The power supply in this model is external, which reduces heating inside the receiver body and makes repairs easier over time. The hole for smart cards is located on the bottom panel of the receiver and provides for installing cards with the chip facing up.

The U2C S+ Maxi HD (RCA) receiver housing is large. The front panel is made of transparent plastic. But when compared with other receivers, the U2C S+ Maxi HD does not show screen details at close range.

The front panel includes a USB connector for connecting USB drives, Wi-Fi adapters or 3G modems. Two channel switching buttons and a power button between them. A hole for smart cards into which 2/3 of the card is placed with the chip down.

In the center of the front panel there is a 4-digit, 7-segment blue display, the operation of which can be configured from the receiver menu. When switching channels, the number is displayed for 3 seconds, followed by the current time.

In standby mode, a red LED is displayed on the front panel of the receiver, and an orange LED when capturing a signal from a satellite. First of all, in order to evaluate all the capabilities of the receiver, download the latest version of the software and install it.

To do this, go to the Main Menu

– USB – Software update via USB and select the firmware file.

The entire update takes approximately 2 minutes and is automatic. The receiver will reboot itself and will be ready for use.

First, let’s set the antenna settings by going to the 1st menu item. In order to enter the menu items that are responsible for the receiver settings, you must enter a password - the default is 0000.

We select the necessary satellites and change the configuration of the DiSEqC switch. With the correct settings, we will see signal capture. For installers, by pressing the red button, a large scale of signal levels and quality will be available, which will greatly simplify antenna setup.

To make it easier to work in the dark, you can even change the brightness of its display. To avoid errors in settings with Eutelsat 36A/Eutelsat 36B satellites, the local oscillator frequency of the satellite converter is already set in the settings to 10750.

The search can be automatic or manual. When doing a manual search, you can use a search by provider, for example, when you need Xtra TV, NTV Plus or Tricolor TV packages.

Upon completion of the scan, the receiver will prompt you to save the result each time. This solution is definitely correct and will save you from “garbage” in the channel list if the DiSEqC switch is installed incorrectly.

You may see that the channel list does not match and simply refuse to save. This practice is not used by all manufacturers of satellite receivers.

To search for several transponders on a satellite, you must use the menu item Search channels. Simply select the required transponders by pressing the “OK” button on the control panel and search using the blue button.

Already scanned transponders will be marked in the list with the name of the provider. The receiver works with motorcycle suspensions using the DiSEqC 1.2 and USALS protocols. You can combine settings on different satellites, setting different types of protocols separately for each.

After we have scanned all the necessary channels, we can edit the lists, for example, by removing unnecessary ones or creating favorite lists. This can be done either using the receiver itself or using a channel editor for PC called U2C_Editor.

Custom OSD menu.

The serial number of the channel, name, level and quality of the signal in dotted scales and numbers, the current time, and the received IP address of the receiver are displayed.

The name of the current and next program, SD or HS icon, the presence of an AAC or AC3 audio track, the presence of teletext or subtitles, the temperature in the selected city and the current weather icon.

Pressing the INFO button again will show the channel system information and full EPG information with a description of the program.

On channels where an electronic satellite guide is available, you can view program titles and descriptions.

From the EPG menu, accessible via the remote control button of the same name, you can set a time reminder, the receiver will turn on itself on the desired program, or add a recording timer. You can view programs for the entire week or for the current day.

Network configuration

The receiver supports a wired connection, working with Wi-Fi adapters and 3G modems.

In a wired interface, you can use Static IP, DHCP, the rather old BOOTP protocol, and even PPPoE with authorization to connect directly to your provider, bypassing the router.

After connecting to the network, to check it, you can use the ping function, which by default adds one of the DNS IP addresses from Google. You just need to run it and make sure that after a couple of seconds, the value of the Error column does not change by mistake.

Wi-Fi connection is also without any problems. We insert a supported USB adapter into one of the available USB connectors and connect to the wireless network.

We look for your access point, enter the encryption key and use it. When you turn on the receiver, the connection will be restored automatically.

With tricky browsing (car sharing) everything is fine too.

We enter the server settings via U2C_Editor and enjoy watching. Switching NTV Plus channels takes about 3 seconds.

The receiver supports the TimeShift mode, but to watch time-shifted programs you need a fast storage device, which will be written on the receiver screen when you try to activate this mode using the remote control button. Recording will also work with a slow drive. A list of recordings will be available in the Media menu.

The receiver is capable of playing the vast majority of popular containers and codecs. By going to the Movies section, you can play videos both from a USB drive and via a local network.

If the first step is all clear, just go in and select the desired file, then to search for video on your home (local) network you need to connect a USB drive to the satellite receiver, the root of which should contain the file “libsmbclient.elz” - this is the Samba client.

If you do have a USB drive connected and a Samba client on it, the receiver will automatically find all home groups on your local network.

Extra services

Available by pressing the green button on the receiver's remote control. As far as we know, this menu is constantly being updated with new features.

The IPTV service contains the ability to create or download 4 separate lists with stream channels or links to specific content.

Tested with .m3u playlists from two favorite receiver groups on Enigma2 and loaded them into U2C S+ Maxi HD (RCA).

Channel names are successfully displayed in Cyrillic and are available for playback. Changing the channel list is available by pressing the left-right arrows on the remote control.

The 3rd and 4th list can be created using the U2C_Editor. We simply download data from the receiver via IPTV channels, edit it and load it back into the receiver.

You can, for example, make a selection of films from the ex.ua service by simply going to the page with the desired film, copying its name and download link.

A good budget satellite receiver with quite serious media player functions. The lineup clearly divides receiver configurations according to the needs of connecting to a TV, without forcing you to overpay for the presence of connectors that you most likely never use.

Own services and implementation of some ideas, for example, the work of Youtube and ex.ua through the Web interface, distinguish these receivers from others, although in some cases they need improvement.

For example, to use the Samba client and the Web interface, a USB drive is required; on the other hand, you can use the same drive for recording.
