Review of the Panasonic Smart VIERA concept and new features of VIERA Connect

Updated: 07/13/2021 Panasonic is a major Japanese electronics and home appliance brand that has become one of the most significant suppliers of its products worldwide today. The company is already a hundred years old and it is only strengthening its position, producing equipment using all the latest advances in technology.

TV models of this brand differ primarily in the quality of the raw materials used, the color rendition of the image and the saturation of the picture. Consumers note the elegant design and appearance, minimal thickness of the product, user-friendly interface and good viewing angle.

We present the rating of Panasonic TVs 2021. The best 7 models that were selected by our experts based on user reviews and ratings.

Screen and sound

The TV is equipped with a 65-inch screen with 4K resolution - 3840 x 2160 pixels. There is support for 3D and other newfangled technologies that make the picture cool. For example, 4K PRO Studio Master UHD is responsible for a wide range of transmitted colors, and Studio Master HCX+ makes blacks richer and the overall picture brighter.

But if you forget about all these marketing names, we have a truly black color (not dark gray), a realistic and fairly bright HDR picture, as well as maximum viewing angles. In general, I liked the screen.

As for sound, the Panasonic TX-65DXR900 has a speaker system of 2 tweeters and 2 woofers with neodymium magnets, each of which is paired with a passive radiator. It is the radiators that are responsible for the excellent bass, and the surround sound is provided by the VR-Audio Master Surround 2.1 system. This, of course, does not reach the level of a home theater, but for most tasks this set will be sufficient.

Eventually

The TV costs a lot - 130 thousand hryvnia (at the time of writing this review it is approximately $5000). But this is a premium-segment TV, so it has a beautiful design, a cool screen with a bunch of various image “improvements” and a convenient Firefox OS system with a set of all the programs necessary for this class of device. In addition, it also works quickly. And for a TV, this is almost the main parameter (after image quality, of course).

If you have the money to buy the Panasonic Smart Viera TX-65DXR900 and you are interested in it, you can safely take it.

Design and connectors

The design of the Smart Viera TX-65DXR900 even received a special name - Art of Light. Essentially, it's just a TV in a thin body (its thickness is only 64 millimeters) with metal frames.

The width is 1457 millimeters, and the height including the stand is 888 millimeters. Weight – 42.5 kilograms. Fingerprints remain on the case, but it’s difficult to call this a drawback. How often do you touch the TV with your hands? In general, they installed it, wiped it with a cloth and that’s it.

The set of connectors is quite usual for most TVs in this price category: LAN port, four HDMI, three USB ports (one of which is 3.0), CI/CI Plus slot, SD card slot, RCA connector, digital audio output and, of course same, headphone output.

Digital signal reception can be carried out in DVB-T, T2, DVB-S2 and DVB-C. There is also a 400 x 400 VESA mount that allows you to hang the TV on the wall.

Panasonic TV 2021 – Soundbars

This year, the Japanese brand is adding two new soundbars: the SC-HTB600 with a wireless subwoofer and the SC-HTB400 with a built-in subwoofer. Therefore, if you need a soundbar for your Panasonic TV, you should pay attention to them:

  1. The wireless HTB600 supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X with dual full-range (4.5 x 20cm) driver units that Panasonic says help produce rich sound. The subwoofer features a 16cm driver and an aerodynamically shaped Bass Reflex port that provides smoother airflow and reduces vibration for strong, clear bass. The soundbar offers 160W of power, while the wireless subwoofer offers 200W of power.
  2. The HTB400 includes two subwoofers and two full-range speakers (4.5 x 10 cm). Panasonic says the HTB400 can deliver more audio with a total output power of 160W. The HTB400 does not support object-oriented audio.

Both devices have an unobtrusive design and come with adjustable feet so they can be placed on or in front of a TV stand. Both the HTB600 and HTB400 can be wall-mounted, and mounting accessories are included.

The speakers in both soundbars are positioned at a seven-degree angle to deliver sound at ear level. Panasonic assures that wall mounting is not a problem and does not change the sound quality. The rear of the speaker is tilted at 180 degrees when mounted on a wall.

Bluetooth connectivity, 4K HDR passthrough via HDMI connection and eARC support round out the features.

Panasonic has another soundbar, but this one is designed for gaming. The SoundSlayer Gaming Speaker (SC-HTB01EB) is considered the optimal SoundBar for gamers who do not have the space to accommodate full-fledged audio equipment.
