Transition to digital broadcasting in Belarus: what is needed for this and where to turn for help?

News of Belarus. Doesn't speak or show. Residents of a number of regions of the country were left without their favorite TV series and programs. Regular subscribers found themselves outside the television zone due to the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, as reported in the 24 Hours News program on STV.

Experts say: the reforms are planned and after them TV viewers will see a better picture. But so far many cannot appreciate the advantages of the transition. Instead of a bright picture, there are gray ripples on the screen. Over the past 4 months alone, the hotline has received 8 thousand calls on this issue. At what frequency is the failure?

Ksenia Stepanovna is used to keeping abreast of the latest events. She says she made sure to watch all the news broadcasts. I prepared for the new broadcast format in advance - I purchased all the necessary accessories. But the TV still only transmits interference.

Ksenia Khomichuk, resident of the village of Velikorita: I would like my TV to be repaired by July 3rd. To watch the parade.

The neighboring village has the same problems. Vladimir Anopko knew for a long time that without some kind of tuners and decimeter antennas there would be no “kina”. I just haven’t figured out how to set up a home theater in the new format.

Vladimir Anopko, resident of the village of Pechki: Last year we bought a TV. Now, what else do you need for it - a set-top box, an antenna? What else is needed? The route will be explained on radio or television. Only available.

The pensioner did not understand, in principle, why and who needed the new TV format. After all, he already saw everything quite well. And he also argues: half a million rubles is a lot of money for pensioners.

Belarus is not the only country keeping up with the times. But many, when switching to digital, provide subsidies for the purchase of set-top boxes. In Russia, for example, they calculated that 10 million residents need financial support. Belarusian TV viewers will have to pay for everything from their wallets.

Pavel Petrulevich, head of the telecommunications department of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus: We hope that in addition to us, local authorities worked and carried out appropriate work with this category of citizens: someone was given appropriate assistance, someone was helped with the purchase of a set-top box. In the end, grandparents probably have children and grandchildren, who we hope are taken care of. It is fashionable to contact our specialists. They will come out and carry out the necessary installations and settings.

Meanwhile, television reforms are proceeding according to schedule. If not today, tomorrow the next in line will see... or rather, they will not see anything on their screens. And where to go and what to do for those whose TV is still talking and showing, they will tell you by calling the free helpline number 172.

Leonid Voiteshonok, chief engineer of the Belarusian radio and television transmission center: You need to purchase a digital television set-top box and have a UHF antenna. Install this equipment, connect it to the TV, configure and receive a digital television signal. If they cannot do it on their own, they need to turn to relatives or the service. (Which one?) That's the question.

Experts advise everyone who has not yet switched to digital and who had the opportunity to watch this story to hurry up and purchase equipment. Otherwise, it will turn out like our heroes, who this evening never watched the evening newscast. The deadline for switching off analogue television is May 2015. How could we not be left without communication with the world by this time?
