According to statistics, the most common problem among digital television viewers is the situation when there is no signal on the TV. The inscription can appear both on a digital TV with a built-in DVB-T2 tuner, and on a connected external set-top box (receiver, tuner).
The notification may be slightly different on each TV, but the essence remains the same. Most often the TV says “No signal or weak signal.” Additionally, recommendations are given on what to do: “Check the antenna cable connection” or “Select the signal source.” This gives us a clear understanding of the reason for the inscription on the TV screen.
This means that the problem is either in the signal (the antenna does not work or is simply not connected), or the TV is now set to a different picture mode. In the latter case, for example, instead of terrestrial TV, the display mode via the HDMI interface can be selected.
The appearance of the notification is not affected by the brand of the TV. This applies to all popular brands (Samsung, LG, Philips, Sony, Xiaomi, Toshiba, Dexp and others) and less. It also doesn’t matter whether it’s a regular TV or Smart TV.
In what cases can you turn off the antenna?
To begin with, it is worth highlighting specific situations in which disconnecting the Rostelecom antenna would be an appropriate measure. Their list is as follows:
- the user has decided to refuse Rostelecom’s services and is moving to another provider;
- more current services are connected that do not require this antenna;
- satellite TV connected;
- lack of desire to use the antenna in the future;
- dissatisfaction with the quality of such television.
In fact, the subscriber can turn off the antenna at any time and does not need an official reason for this. You just need to read the conditions, prepare the necessary documents and submit an application using one of the available methods.
Incorrect source selected
A TV is a device that displays pictures from a source that supplies video and audio signals (or separately). Therefore, you need to make sure that the source from which you now want to display images is specified in the settings. If the source is set incorrectly, the picture simply will not be displayed. Consequently, the device will write that there is no signal.
The button on the control panel is always responsible for selecting the source. It is signed “SOURCE”, “INPUT”, “AV”.
If this button is not there, then you need to press the “HOME” button (indicated by a house icon). Next, select the source menu in the main menu and set the source from which you want to display the picture.
- If you need to watch via HDMI, select the item of the same name.
- When you need to watch digital TV through an antenna, you need to select the item “TV”, “Antenna”, “Broadcast”, “Live TV” or similar.
Disconnection methods
As for the ways to turn it off, there are only two of them:
- through a personal visit to the nearest company office;
- through your personal account.
The first option is less convenient, but subscribers often resort to it due to the fact that they do not know how to use the official Rostelecom website. In this article we will look at both methods. Each of them is suitable for a specific situation.
HDMI problem
If there is no signal on the TV via HDMI, and the source is set correctly, it is possible that the reason for the inscription lies in the cable itself.
Often, even if the cable is working, it does not perform its function. Sometimes it is enough to replace the cable and everything becomes working; the screen no longer says that there is no signal.
If replacing the multimedia cord does not help, there are several reasons:
- failure of the video card on a computer or laptop;
- original current versions of drivers are not installed on the computer device;
- malfunction of television equipment, you need to reset the settings to factory settings or flash the firmware;
- hardware malfunction of the TV, hardware failure, damage to the antenna or other port to which the signal is received.
In the latter case, it is impossible to solve the problem yourself without experience. You need to contact a service center for diagnostics and repairs.
Required documents for deactivation
Firstly, you must have a passport for which the antenna contract is drawn up. If the service was connected to another person who cannot perform the procedure, then his relatives can do this. However, a power of attorney must be issued. Rostelecom employees may well refuse to disconnect if they do not receive reliable confirmation of the desire of the service owner himself.
Secondly, it is worth considering that the owner of the house must agree with the dismantling. It's good if it's the same person who is disabling the service. It is enough to provide any document that confirms ownership of the house or apartment. However, if you are renting a home, you cannot do without the real owner. Only if the antenna was not connected by you after moving in. Then the owner will not be needed.
It is advisable to have a contract in hand. Of course, the company has a copy of it, but it will be better if the document is not lost.
What happened to our television? Thoughts of a common man
In the age of information technology, advertising of all sorts of goods, political propaganda or songs of all sorts of Eldzhey and Feduks comes out of every iron, from which not only my ears wither, but also my concern about the mental health of listeners grows. As far as I remember, this was not always the case.
“Favorite” of young people Eldzhey, according to his passport Alexey Uzenyuk.
As they say, it was better before. There were not hundreds of the same type of TV channels that showed the same films and programs. 10-20 channels and each occupies its own separate segment. Channel One and Russia were responsible for informing the population about the situation in the country and abroad. NTV was the medium of life series. Sometimes entertainment programs brightened up the channels, but everything was in moderation.
Now this capitalism and bureaucracy have completely ruined television. You watch a movie for an hour, commercials for two hours. They touch upon the problems of Ethiopians when it is necessary to solve the problems of the Russian population. They gather hundreds of unknown “experts” who scream with spray from their mouths, earning hundreds of thousands of rubles for their screams. By the way, a coal miner, submariner, surgeon or programmer often cannot earn even a hundred thousand, although their work is more difficult and certainly more productive than the steaming drool of insolent faces.
Vladimir Solovyov is a presenter on the Rossiya channel and one of the most verbose and provocative announcers, in my opinion.
Has it always been this way? My answer is no. I remember the times when NTV often provided useful information for summer residents; federal channels showed not “Something with the Stars,” but historical materials about Russia. Good Russian cartoons, not just any anime.
Money has swallowed up sanity. Nowadays, few people try to do something for others, everyone is trying to earn more money. Honest work, to which our parents and you and I are accustomed, is no longer valued. Whoever is more cunning and arrogant dictates the rules. That's why we're watching Buzova. However, the Internet still remains the sovereign opinion of the public, which is why we get bribery scandals with the shows “How to become a millionaire?”, “The Voice. Children" and "Battle of Psychics".
Artyom Sheinin is a former military man, and now an ardent defender of the government and presenter on Channel One.
Despite this, I watch TV periodically. It’s rare to even find interesting programs or series. However, finding something worthwhile among the mountains, sorry, feces is becoming more difficult every day.
Television is driven by two castes of people - businessmen and the government. The first ones need profit, and they are not interested in the rest. Given the options of earning 10 million rubles and broadcasting complete nonsense and deception, or getting 9 million rubles with reliable information, they do not consider the first one.
The government always has weight in any media, but when the state becomes a monopolist in political terms (we have only one United Russia), total control and censorship occurs. The reliability of the information will not meet the needs of citizens, but the needs of that very party. And this can only be corrected using the same policies.
As a result: instead of educational programs, children's cartoons promoting kindness, love, historical facts about our beloved homeland, we currently get totalitarian censorship, anime, and strange people who, through their singing, force the population to degrade in every possible way.
Disconnecting from the antenna in the Rostelecom office
Having prepared all the necessary documents, you can go to the nearest provider’s office. There you need to take an electronic queue (if there is one), indicating the desired service. Next, you should adhere to the following algorithm:
- Go to the counter and speak to a company representative. Declare your desire to disable the Rostelecom antenna.
- Provide all necessary documents and ask for a corresponding application form.
- Fill out the form provided there and give it to the specialist.
- Receive confirmation that the application has been accepted for processing. Take your documents.
Now all that remains is to wait until the broadcast is stopped and money for the service stops being charged. It is noteworthy that the company stopped sending employees to dismantle and remove the antenna itself. You can keep it with you.
Sample application
The application form looks like a simple document where you need to enter your personal data and provide additional information. Namely:
- Full name of the applicant;
- full service connection address;
- home and mobile phone number;
- tenant or owner;
- reason for refusing the service (any is suitable);
- the need to install a filter on the apartment's subscriber distribution system (optional);
- the presence of an additional vestibule door on the landing at the entrance;
- Is the apartment communal?
- full date of application;
- applicant's signature.
Contacts Rostelecom
If you have any additional questions or don’t know where the nearest office is located, you can contact the specialists directly. This can be done by phone or through technical support on the official website:
- hotline: 8 (800) 1000800 - throughout Russia;
- all sales offices are located on a convenient interactive map at: //rt.ru/sale-office;
- The official website ( //rt.ru ) provides a special feedback form.
broadcasting will be switched off in 20 regions, including Moscow and the Moscow region . A large information campaign continues on these channels:
But all this has nothing to do with cable television.
100% of apartment buildings in Moscow and 99% of the Moscow region are equipped with networks of various cable operators.
However, for simplicity, many residents of Moscow and the region indicate “Antenna” in their apartment receipts.
For example, the cable operator AKADO even calls the cable service itself.
But we are not talking about any common house-wide collective antennas here: all residents long ago had cable.
Determining what exactly you have - cable - is very simple: if your TV shows more than 20 channels - you have cable .
Therefore, no set-top boxes or new TVs are needed. Continue to watch your regular TV as before - nothing will change for you after April 15.
Without understanding all this, in recent months the number of questions from residents of Moscow and the region has increased significantly on various social networks and forums.
People needlessly buy DVB-T2 terrestrial boxes , connect them to their apartment cable and, naturally, find nothing .
You have to hand over the set-top box or use it at the dacha or in the village - with a real antenna .
However, if for some reason you really want to give up cable and no longer pay for a cable “Antenna”, then in addition to any set-top box or DVB-T2 TV, you will need an antenna - indoor or outdoor, depending on your specific conditions : direction and floor .
But then you will only have 20 federal channels.
In addition, cable television is the simplest and most convenient connection method even for the oldest TVs among all other types of broadcasting (satellite, IPTV, terrestrial).
Of course, for this simplicity, convenience and a large number of channels you have to pay a monthly subscription fee.
Well, if you just want to improve the quality of watching cable television on a regular old TV, then you will need a digital cable set-top box of the DVB-C or a universal terrestrial cable DVB-T2/ DVB-C .
For example, the same AKADO has 83 open digital channels in the same cable.
Check with your cable operator for details about the availability of digital cable channels.
For example, digital cable is closed , so you only need to purchase their equipment .
By the way, everything said above also applies to other cities, for example, residents of St. Petersburg also rushed to buy and try to connect DVB-T2 over-the-air set-top boxes to their apartment cable, but, of course, they found nothing , because They have had cable (at least 47 channels).
And they also don’t have to worry about the upcoming over-the-air .
This should concern residents - the private sector in cities, summer residents and in rural areas.

Television is turning into entertainment for the elderly
Photo by city news agency "Moscow"
Russian television is ceasing to be at all relevant for young people, sociologists report. Young Russians choose online publications, social networks and blogs as a source of information. Only 13% of young people cannot give up TV completely. Low trust in TV is also evidenced by the fact that even among people over 60 years old, potentially every third person is ready to give up watching blue-screen programs. The declining viewer interest in television is also confirmed by the falling influx of advertisers who prefer to place information on alternative online media.
Television as the main source of information and entertainment for Russians is gradually losing its position. If eight years ago almost 80% of the population watched TV every day, today only 67% of Russians watch TV. These are the results of a survey by the Public Opinion Foundation (FOM). At the same time, every ninth respondent honestly admits that they watch TV less often. TV viewers in general do not experience a shortage of access to the blue screen. Almost 60% of Russians answer that they watch TV as much as they want, and 17% admit that they watch even more than they would like.
For the majority of Russian viewers, TV is primarily a source of information. News programs are preferred by 67% of respondents. But what’s remarkable is that most Russians can easily refuse television news if the need arises. Thus, almost half of respondents (47%) report that they can easily switch to other sources of information (news sites, social networks, blogs). In turn, 38% of respondents will not be able to refuse news and TV shows. Young Russians are ready to give up the blue screen much more easily. In the age group from 18 to 30 years, over 60% express such readiness, while only 13% of respondents hold the opposite opinion. The age group from 31 to 45 years demonstrates slightly more conservative sentiments. Here, 52% intend to give up watching television news, while almost a third of respondents will not be able to do this.
Older age groups show greater affinity for television. In the group from 46 to 60 years old, the proportion of respondents who are able and unable to give up watching TV is actually equal - 46% and 45%, respectively. In the group over 60 years old, TV definitely wins – 56% of respondents are not ready to give it up. Nevertheless, every third Russian over the age of 60 is potentially ready to switch to other sources of information.
Those who cannot give up TV cite the greater availability of television as a reason, 4% consider the process of watching news more convenient, 3% of respondents watch TV out of habit.
In general, the main sources of information for Russians are shifting from traditional media (newspapers, radio and TV) towards the Internet, sociologists conclude. In general, half of Russians still prefer traditional media, while 38% of Russian residents trust new media. Trust in new media is also more common among young people. In the 18 to 30 age group, they are trusted by a whopping 78%, while traditional ones are trusted by just 18%. Russians aged 31 to 45 also overwhelmingly (49%) prefer to learn news from the Internet. However, the share of traditional media lovers among them is also significant – 37% of respondents.
In the age groups from 46 to 60 and over 60, traditional media and TV clearly win. 59% and 81%, respectively, prefer to receive information from them. Confidence in new media is significantly lower: under 60 years of age, only every fourth person gets information from it; over 60 years old, only every ninth person gets information from it.
Let's note that the trend of decreasing trust in TV did not start yesterday. If 10 years ago 94% of the country’s residents received information on TV, now 72%, as follows from the results of last year’s Levada survey, sociologists noted, emphasizing that the younger generation uses social networks rather than television as the main source of information.
Thus, in the age group from 18 to 24 years old, social networks are chosen as a source of information by 64% of respondents, news sites - 49%, and television - 42% of respondents. This same age group also shows the most intense decline in trust in television. For comparison: in 2013, 77% of young Russians chose the blue screen as the main source of information. Among citizens 25–34 years old, 56% trust social networks, 41% trust online publications, and 49% of respondents trust television, according to the survey results. At the same time, in general, social networks and the Internet are becoming the second most popular source of information among Russians. Collectively, their audience makes up two-thirds of Russians.

The decline in trust in television is gradually affecting the advertising market.
At the end of 2021, the total volume of advertising in all distribution media amounted to almost 500 billion rubles, which is 5% more than a year earlier, reported the Association of Communication Agencies of Russia (AKAR). Advertising volumes on traditional TV amounted to 175 billion rubles, which is 6% lower than a year earlier. Internet services showed a 20 percent growth, and the total volume of investments in this segment amounted to 244 billion rubles, according to AKAR data. At the same time, the association previously recognized that the advertising market is growing only due to the Internet. It is all the more remarkable that according to the results of the first quarter of 2021, the Russian TV advertising market showed slight growth (3%) and amounted to 43 billion rubles, according to the estimates of the National Advertising Alliance (NRA). As the organization notes, the most dynamic growth occurred in thematic channels.
Interestingly, after the introduction of quarantine measures, an increase in TV viewing was recorded in a number of countries. According to Kantar, in Peru from March 16 to 22, television viewing increased by 55%, in Spain - by 47%. In China, where quarantine was introduced much earlier, the increase in TV viewing time increased by 41%, researchers note.
In addition, Kantar notes that the level of trust in TV in crisis situations is growing, while in social networks it is falling. In Russia, this does not seem to happen. Experts doubt that even a pandemic and quarantine measures will be able to reverse the previously emerging trend of viewers moving online.
The media consumption of Russians is indeed changing, but this is a continuation of the trends that developed even before the pandemic, agrees the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM). “It’s correct to say that the coronavirus catalyzed a number of processes,” admits Kirill Rodin, director of government affairs at VTsIOM. According to VTsIOM, almost half of Russians spend the same amount of time on the Internet as before the period of self-isolation. However, every fourth (28%) began to spend more time on the Internet, mainly young people 18-24 years old (46%).
It should be admitted that TV today is not interesting not only to the younger generation, but also to people under 35 years old, say NG experts. “In fact, the only areas of interest for this audience on television remain sports and entertainment content. At the same time, demands are gradually growing, and television can no longer satisfy even this need. Then standard TV is replaced by streaming services and the Internet,” notes Alexey Krichevsky, an expert at the Academy of Financial and Investment Management. In order to understand how much more interesting streaming services are today than television and at what rate their profits and the number of subscribers are growing, the expert suggests looking at the share price of top companies that develop their own content and sell paid subscriptions. “Netflix costs $453 per share, while before the pandemic it cost one and a half times less. Disney and Apple have also launched their own streaming services. And the value of companies returns to pre-crisis values,” says the economist.
According to Krichevsky, people are gradually coming to the conclusion that they need to pay for quality content. “The pandemic also contributed to this situation, but we must not forget that in the last few years television has actually lost its relevance, turning into a propaganda machine,” he reminds.
So far, the economic consequences for television are not yet so sensitive, but the dominant role of TV will begin to fade, the expert continues. “The trend has already been broken, now it remains to understand how TV channel producers will react to this. In order not to go into oblivion, television has one way out - to compete in the quality of content,” says Krichevsky.
The main factor that influences Russian television, as well as television throughout the world, is competition with the Internet, which is taking more and more attention from users, agrees venture entrepreneur Alexey Buyanov. “And while cable channels can offer modern content, state channels are increasingly losing relevance,” he notes.
“Obviously, TV will remain a professional content producer in the coming years. The Internet itself is still weak in this art. Netflix is making films, but domestic attempts in this direction have not yet led to great success,” says Finam analyst Leonid Delitsyn. “Of course, content production itself, without its delivery, is a much more risky business. Television has already ceded primacy to the Internet in advertising budgets. However, we must keep in mind that budgets are spent for different purposes and on different types of sites. Online, more than half of this budget goes to Yandex and Google, which make money from contextual ads when people search for smartphones and vacuum cleaners. There is no overlap with news budgets,” he emphasizes.
