Hi all! Today I will try to talk about this magic wand completely. The first Smart TVs were produced with a conventional remote control, which was not very convenient to control a complex system. And in the future I had to purchase a “magic pointer” separately. Now all new LG TVs come with two remote controls: a regular one and an LG Magic Remote.
Today in this article we will look at some problems that may arise during use. I will also tell you about the compatibility of TVs for those who have not yet purchased this remote control and who did not have it included in the kit initially.
What is it for?
If you have ever tried to use a Smart TV system with a regular remote control using arrow keys, then you already understand how inconvenient it is. But I will highlight a few of the most striking amenities that you will gain by using this device:
- The remote control is equipped with a gyroscope, so you can easily use it to move the mouse cursor like an electronic pointer. Some, of course, connect old wireless mice, but this is not particularly convenient, moving the mouse around the sofa.
- The ability to give orders to the TV by voice. In the same way, you can not type a request into the search bar of your browser, but simply issue commands. This significantly reduces time.
- It also has all the basic functions of a simple remote control.
It was invented primarily to simplify the task of managing the Smart operating system.
Models
The very first model was the AN-MR300 series. It was convenient, but some users complained that the gyroscope's low sensitivity made it not so convenient to control the cursor. Later, the AN-MR400 version was released - it was a more reliable and sensitive remote control.
But now they are no longer produced. There are currently three versions on the market:
Their difference lies in the supported TVs. Older remotes may support 2012 and 2013 TVs. They also have a slightly different design, and newer models have added buttons. I'll tell you about them below.
TV compatibility
Here you need to first look at the year of manufacture of the TV. We are also talking only about TVs that have the Smart TV function. The remote control model AN-MR300 and AN-MR400 is suitable for the very first LG TVs released since 2012. AN-MR500 is already suitable only for 2014 devices. Well, the AN-MR600 model is compatible with models released since 2015. For clarity, I will provide a table of values.
I would like to note one point. Only models older than AN-MR500 are currently sold in stores. I couldn't find the AN-MR300/400 in the store. But both of these models are available on AliExpress for a huge sum of 3,000 rubles. Apparently the Chinese decided to make some money because LG stopped producing old remote controls. Although I can’t understand why - after all, there are still many people who bought SMART TVs back in 2012.
ADVICE! Below is a table of compatibility of Magic Remote of different versions with TVs. To make searching easier, simply press the “Ctrl” and “F” keys simultaneously. After that, a search window for this page will appear in the upper right corner of the screen. Enter the model number (only numbers and letters without the LG name) and press “Enter”.

Appearance and buttons
The number of buttons will depend on the model and version of the remote control. Starting with the AN-MR600, buttons with numbers were added to the remote control. They are not available on earlier versions. Therefore, I will analyze the buttons and functionality using the latest versions of the MR600-650A as an example.
How to connect the remote control to the TV
Until you connect and register the remote control to the TV, you will not be able to use it. But it's easy to do.
- Insert batteries into the remote control and turn on the TV. To do this you will need two standard AA batteries. They come included.
- Point the Magic Remote at the TV and press the wheel (13).
If you don't succeed, just turn off the TV, turn on the TV and try again.
How to set up the LG Magic Remote
The latest generation televisions, equipped with the Smart TV (smart television) function, are practically computers designed for viewing visual content from various sources, including the Internet. But for all their technology, manufacturers made sure that they were very easy to operate. One of these developments from LG was the LG Magic Remote, also known as LG Magic Motion, known among owners of LG equipment as the Jedi Remote. What did he do to deserve such an honorary title?
With its help, you can easily control not only the smart functions of the LG TV, but also other devices connected to the TV, for example, a Blu-Ray player, home theater or set-top box. It also has other unique features:
- The Magic Motion remote control has a built-in gyroscope, so you can move the cursor on the TV screen by moving the remote control in space. What is called a “light movement of the hand.”
- The remote control has a wheel similar to the wheel on a computer mouse, making it very convenient to view content on Internet sites.
- There is a voice search function, which is much easier than typing a query in the search bar or even switching channels with buttons.
- The newest Magic Remotes have added a gesture control option.
For most new LG TV models (starting from the 7 series), the Magic Remote is included in the package along with the regular remote control. For earlier versions, the Magic Remote will have to be purchased separately. Also, some models may require a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth adapter. It may also be included in the kit, or you will need to buy it additionally.
But anyone who has ever used this device will say that the purchase is worth it. Moreover, such a remote control is relatively inexpensive. Manufacturers recommend buying only original remote controls, since only they can guarantee operation without failures, interference and other “glitches”.
An alternative way is to download the LG WebOs Magic Remote application on your smartphone and use it as a remote control.
But in any case, regardless of whether you purchased it separately or it came with your LG TV, the Magic Motion remote needs to be configured and connected to the TV. This is done very simply.
Connecting the remote control to an LG TV
First you need to establish a connection between the remote control and your TV.
- Insert batteries into the remote control. The remote control runs on two AA batteries.
- Turn on the TV. Wait until it downloads completely.
- Point the remote control towards the TV and press the wheel to initialize.
- A message should appear on the TV screen indicating that the remote control has been successfully paired with your LG TV - “Registration completed successfully.”
- If for some reason the inscription does not appear, you must repeat the entire process again.
- Turn off the TV, then turn it on again. Then press a combination of buttons on the remote. Button combinations vary for remote controls of different years of manufacture.
Magic Motion remote control 2010-2011: you must press the OK and MUTE buttons simultaneously for at least 5 seconds, while pointing the remote control towards the TV.
Magic Motion remote control after 2012 release: you need to press the Smart (or Home) and “Back” buttons simultaneously for at least 4 seconds, pointing the remote control towards the TV.
Possible problems when connecting the LG Magic Remote.
If you are unable to connect your remote control, it may be due to the following:
- Batteries not working. Try replacing both.
- There are objects between the remote control and the TV that interfere with normal operation. The Magic Motion remote control operates in the frequency range 2400-2484 GHz, its transmitter power is 10 dBm, its range is up to 10 m. However, for optimal and correct operation of the remote control, it is necessary that there are no foreign objects between it and the TV.
Important: The IR receiver is located in the lower right corner of the TV. So this area should be given special attention.
How to choose a Magic Remote for your LG TV
If you purchase the Magic Remote separately, you need to consider compatibility with various LG TV models. Of course, the TV must have the Smart TV function, but you also need to take into account the year of manufacture. Different Magic Remotes are suitable for different TV models.
- LG LED LSD TVs or plasma TVs produced before 2012 – AN-MR300 remote control.
- LG Smart TVs produced in 2013 – AN-MR400 remote control.

How to use the Magic Remote:
Once you have connected your remote control to the TV, you can start using it. To do this, gently shake the remote control from left to right. A pointer will appear on the TV screen. The wheel on the remote control has the function of an OK button. You can use it to switch channels, scroll through menus, etc.
You can also optimally configure the remote control based on your own preferences: set the speed of movement, its shape and size. This can be done in “Settings”. Select the “Settings” item, and in it the “Index” item.
WebOS
If you are too lazy to spend money on buying a remote control, and generally too lazy to go to the store. You can try downloading the "LG webOS Magic Remote" on your smartphone. This program has the same functionality as the remote control. Now you can control Smart TV functions from your phone. True, the application is supported only on smartphones with the Android operating system.
Reviews
We will only talk about the latest models 500 and 600, since the previous ones are already out of stock. The MR600 usually has positive reviews, since the manufacturer took into account all the shortcomings of previous remote controls and finally added input buttons, without which it was hard for Internet surfers.

Advantages and disadvantages of the LG magic remote control
The vast majority of users who have already appreciated the Magic Remote note exclusively positive aspects of the remote control. But at the same time, we should not forget about the shortcomings that can negatively affect the overall impression of the interaction.
Advantages and disadvantages
Ergonomic shape
Multifunctionality
No extra buttons
Availability of shortcut keys
It can be difficult for a beginner to understand all the functions the first time.
The accessory is quite expensive if it suddenly needs to be replaced
Thus, Magic Remote can be called almost an ideal remote control. The advantages of the accessory completely outweigh its disadvantages. After all, the user will figure out the functions one way or another, and replacing the remote control is unlikely to be necessary, since the Magic Remote is reliable and well-built.

Using Smart TV on a TV with a regular classic remote control is, to put it mildly, inconvenient. Especially when it comes to typing letters on the virtual keyboard. Many people get out of this situation by connecting a wireless mouse and keyboard to the TV, but LG took care of us in advance in its TVs above the budget level by providing a special additional remote control for Smart TV - LG Magic Motion Remote Control. If it’s not included in the kit, it doesn’t matter, this miracle can be bought separately and, if necessary, a special receiver for it.
