The Series 4's glossy black frame elegantly frames the high-quality LCD panel, delivering 178° viewing angles on all four sides. We also note the presence of models (22, 32 and 40 inches), made in a glossy white case. And the stereo speakers are hidden in special chambers at the bottom of the screen to improve the quality of sound reproduction.

Series 4 LCD TVs are also ideal for those who use them with digital devices such as HD camcorders and portable media players. They ensure easy connectivity with side-mounted ports, including an HDMI port, and dedicated hotkeys on the remote control for quick access to connected devices.

Series 5 mid-range TVs combine cutting-edge technology with Samsung's acclaimed modern design.

The series includes five models with diagonals of 32, 37, 40, 46 and 52 inches . Each incorporates a range of revolutionary technologies and features to deliver optimal quality at an attractive price. For example, all Series 5 provide Full HD (1920x1080 pixels), fast response time of 6 ms and viewing angles of 178°.

They also feature Samsung's patented New Clear Panel, which significantly reduces glare and delivers a superb contrast ratio of 30,000:1 on large-screen models (15,000:1 on 32- and 37-inch models). In addition, they feature proprietary Wide Color Enhancer 2 technology, which expands the color gamut and more naturally conveys shades of green, blue and red, while creating the impression that the screen displays a real object.

When it comes to ease of use, the Series 5 caters to every need. The new models support 1080p input for connecting a wide range of HD peripheral products. All TVs have three HDMI 1.3 ports (1 on the side and 2 on the back), as well as a side WiseLink port, allowing you to view content from digital cameras and MP3 players directly on the screen.

Deciphering Samsung TV markings

It is worth noting that the markings of QLED TVs have some differences from the markings of conventional TVs. First, let's look at the classic models, without quantum dot technology (QLED).

1. The first letter indicates that this brand product is a TV (at the moment for non-QLED TVs, this is the letter “U”, previously, until 2012 there were “H”, “L”). Next is a letter that indicates the region where the model is sold (“E” - Europe, “N” - USA, Korea).

2. After this we see 2 numbers - this is the screen diagonal in inches.

3. Behind the diagonal is a letter designation that indicates the year of manufacture of the TV (“T” - 2021, “R” - 2021, “N” - 2018, “M” - 2021, “K” - 2021, “J” - 2015, "H" - 2014, "F" - 2013, "E" - 2012).

4. The next designation is the resolution of the matrix (“S” - SUHD (Super Ultra HD), “U” - UHD (Ultra HD), the absence of a letter means that the TV has a screen with Full HD resolution).

5. Immediately after the resolution we see a number indicating the TV series. The series combines models that have the same set of technologies and basic technical characteristics, for example, matrix resolution.

6. After the series there is a model designation, with certain characteristics, connectors and properties.

7. Next are 2 numbers that indicate the design, shape of the stand and color of the device body. Within the model, the manufacturer can change the type of stand, frame thickness or color of the device. It is this information that this designation carries.

8. The last letters are the type of digital tuner (“W” - DVB-T/C, “K” - DVB-T2/C, “U” - DVB-T2/C/S2, “T” - 2xDVB-T2/ C/S2) and model sales region (XRU - Russia, XUA - Ukraine, etc.).

Let's look at an example of marking a Samsung TV UE-55TU8072 55 "

U - TV, E - model for the European market, 55 - 55-inch diagonal, T - year of model development - 2021, U - Ultra HD, 8 - eighth series, then there is information about the design, stand shape, color, U - digital tuner DVB-T/C/S2, XRU - model for the Russian market.

As for TV models with quantum dot technology (QLED), the company has placed them in a separate line and, accordingly, the markings for them are slightly different. This decoding is valid for models 2021-2021, below is the decoding for 2021-2021.

1. The first letter “Q” stands for the QLED TV line.

2. Next, as in non-QLED TVs, is the region for which the model was released (“E” - Europe, “N” - USA, Canada, Korea, “A” - Africa).

3. Next comes the diagonal of the TV in inches.

4. After the diagonal - a series of QLED TVs (the letter Q is duplicated and, in fact, the number is the series number).

5. The letter that comes after the series indicates the shape of the TV screen (“F” is flat, “C” is curved).

6. Behind the panel type is the letter designation of the year of manufacture of the TV (“N” - 2021, “M” - 2017).

7. After the year of manufacture of the model, there is a type of screen backlight (“A” - Edge-lit LED (Side), “B” - Full Array Backlight (Rear)).

8. The following is the letter designation of the type of digital tuners and for which country the device is manufactured. These TVs are top-end and, as a rule, carry the entire set of tuners; differences may lie in regional broadcasting standards.

Starting in 2021, the labeling of QLED models has changed slightly and will look like this:

1. The first letter “Q” stands for the QLED TV line.

2. Next, as in QLED TVs 2021 - 2021, follows the region for which the model was released (“E” - Europe, “N” - USA, Canada, Korea, “A” - Africa).

3. Next comes the diagonal of the TV in inches.

4. After the diagonal - a series of QLED TVs, the letter Q and two or three digits are duplicated - the series number (Q60, Q85, Q900, etc.).

5. Unlike models of 17 and 18, the letter indicating a curved or flat screen was removed so that the year of manufacture is now located next to the series (“T” - 2021, “R” - 2019).

6. Next comes the generation of TV within the series. (A or B, A is the first generation, B is the second. As an example, the second generations of 2021 Q900 series models began to install HDMI 2.1 ports and the remote control was replaced).

7. The last letters are the type of digital tuner (“W” - DVB-T/C, “K” - DVB-T2/C, “U” - DVB-T2/C/S2, “T” - 2xDVB-T2/ C/S2) and model sales region (XRU - Russia, XUA - Ukraine, etc.).

Review of Samsung 5 series TVs. 2014 models.

As you can see, the presented diagonal solutions make the 5 series of Samsung TVs almost universal, allowing you to install TVs not only in traditional spacious living rooms, but also in bedrooms, kitchens and even small hallways.

The models in the series themselves are reliable workhorses, perfect for people who perceive TV purely as a TV and nothing more. You won't find SmartTV or 3D features, advanced Local Micro Dimming, or true-to-life Precision Black on these TVs. But on the other hand, you won’t overpay for a number of newfangled features that are not important to you and that you are unlikely to want to use in the future.

Unlike the previous 4 series, which has not been updated on the Russian market this year, all models included in the fifth generation have screens with Full HD resolution, which allows you to watch television programs and videos in higher quality image detail. Full HD resolution is more promising and less tiring for the user's eyes.

Judging by the last two letters AK in the alphanumeric index of the models, all of them are equipped with built-in DVB-T2 and DVB-C tuners, which allow you to effectively receive digital programs from cable and terrestrial television. Well, it goes without saying that TVs have a built-in tuner for processing classic analog signals.

Design solutions

Both Samsung H5000AK and H5020AK 2014 TV models we are considering are almost identical. At least regarding appearance. They both come in the same black, elegantly thin and classic body design called Glossy lack, which is sure to appeal to discreet users. At the bottom of the TV body, right above the rectangular stand, there is the Samsung logo, made on an original silver background.

We can say that all the noticeable differences between the presented TV models lie only in their energy consumption, overall dimensions and weight, which are due to the difference in the diagonals of the LCD screen matrices.

Image enhancement technologies

The screens of all 5 Series TV models use LCD matrices with side-lighting by Edge-LED LEDs. This solution made it possible to significantly reduce the thickness of televisions in comparison with earlier years of production.

The technologies used to improve the displayed image on Samsung H5000AK and H5020AK TVs are represented by a high-quality and reliable basic set.

To naturally convey dynamic images and eliminate the effect of blurring the contours of objects rapidly moving across the screen, all 5 Series models use Clear Motion Rate 100 Hz (100 CMR) interpolation technology. The shown screen refresh rate is complex, but the real hardware frame rate of the matrices of the presented models is the very initial 50/60 Hz.

As for the dynamic contrast of the H5000AK and H5020AK models, Samsung marketing specialists decided not to indicate various sky-high coefficients in the specifications, but simply noted that it reaches the Mega level.

All TVs, both last year and current ones, have a special Natural Mode viewing mode, which allows you to achieve natural color tones in the image. This feature in 2014 TVs was complemented by the Wide Color Enhancer (Plus) function, which was not present in last year’s models.

In addition, in the current model of the Samsung H5020AK TV, the company's engineers used a more advanced image processing processor, the Quadmatic Picture Engine, which allows software to scale HD or Full HD pictures, “stretching” them to UltraHD quality. For people interested in reviews of Samsung 5 series TVs, it will be useful to know that previously TVs in this series were not able to do this.

Audio Processing Technologies

As in earlier models, 5 Series TVs are equipped with two full-range stereo speakers built into the body without a subwoofer, allowing them to generate sound waves with a power of 10 W per channel.

To improve sound quality, all models feature DTS Premium Audio technology (creating theatrical audio quality), advanced Dolby Digital Plus multi-channel system and automatic volume control.

In this year's models, South Korean engineers also decided to use more advanced technology for digital processing and sound quality improvement, DTS Studio Sound.

Supported Interfaces

TVs in this series are equipped with a full set of on-board digital and analogue interfaces, allowing you to effectively exchange content with external devices. There are composite and component connectors, a headphone jack, an optical audio output, a SCART connector, a slot for connecting CI modules and, of course, a standard RF antenna input.

To connect external devices and exchange high-quality multimedia content, both TV models have 2 HDMI connectors and one USB port. However, the 2.0 standard of the presented USB port is unlikely to allow connecting modern large-capacity external hard drives to it.

Functionality and equipment

As for advanced functionality, budget series television receivers have never been able to boast of it. That is, Samsung H5000AK and H5020AK TVs are equipped with Digital Clean View and Analog Clean View digital and analog noise filtering systems, a standard set of auto search, auto shutdown, timer functions, Eco sensor, subtitle and teletext display systems. In addition, all of them are equipped with a multilingual menu designed to configure the TV functions. That, in principle, is the entire basic set.

A nice feature of the 2014 Samsung H5020AK model was the addition of the “Football” mode to the standard “Cinema” and “Game” preset modes, with specially adapted image and sound parameters that guarantee the most spectacular viewing of sports matches.

The control system for 5 Series TV models involves the use of a traditional infrared remote control without any alternative gesture or voice methods.

In short, the reviewed Samsung 5 series TVs can be called quite functional, technologically advanced and affordable, but not primitive. We remind you that the Samsung 5 series TV models discussed in the article are available to Russian customers as of May 2014. In the future, the series may expand due to the launch of new models.
