  3. Polarization. Its operating principle is based on the capabilities of the image polarization effect. The glasses themselves select which image is transmitted to the selected eye, and no power source is required for their operation.

How to watch 3D on TV from a computer

You can also enjoy 3D images through your computer. To do this, you need to make sure that the computer has enough resources to do this. It must meet basic requirements, which are the availability of free memory, a specific operating system, etc.

I remember it was even announced that a new era of three-dimensional television had arrived. Any TV with 3D function was much more expensive than its analogue. It even got to the point of ridiculousness; manufacturers of tablets and phones began to produce 3D devices.

However, the common sense of the buyer prevailed and they were not particularly popular, and over time, sales of 3D TVs began to fade. Several large companies have announced that they will stop producing 3D TVs.

Samsung was one of the first to report this.

Its representatives stated that very little content is produced for 3D, so users cannot fully enjoy the three-dimensionality of the “picture”. And they slyly added that there was simply no point in releasing TVs with a 3D function without the ability for viewers to use this function.

In principle, everything was explained by the fact that 3D TVs, almost immediately after the boom, simply stopped being bought. After Samsung, Philips made a similar statement, whose management directly said that no one needed 3D.

In particular, LG made such a statement. They have decided to stop making 3D TVs in 2021 so they can concentrate on HDR, a much more versatile technology.

High Dynamic Range Imaging, or simply HDR, is the name of technologies for working with images and videos, the range of brightness of which exceeds the capabilities of standard technologies.

At about the same time, Sony announced the release of only two 3D TV models this year.

But I came to my senses in time!

Just the other day, Sony announced a complete cessation of production of televisions of this type. None of the new models, including the most expensive ones, will support 3D mode.

In addition to the companies mentioned above, lesser-known manufacturers, including Vizio, TCL and Hisense, have also stopped producing 3D TVs. By the way, none of the companies presented a new 3D TV model at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Features like 4K and HDR have become much more in demand and this, along with screen size, is now a key factor in buyers' considerations.

  • High resolution – FHD minimum, 4K ideally.
  • The frame rate is at least 120 Hz.
  • Availability of content encoded accordingly.
  • Availability of glasses.

It was described above how different 3D technologies work. Active requires certain “skills” from the TV, which create a stereo effect, that is, regular TV cannot do this. But passive technology and anaglyph will do. The last option is the simplest - just download the 3D movie and find glasses or make them yourself from cardboard and transparent colored plastic. Actually, such 3D was known back in the times of the USSR with the first color televisions. It does not even require compliance with the above conditions. For those who want to watch high-quality 3D, you will need not only passive polarized glasses and appropriate content, but also a suitable TV.

Important! Why minimum FHD? The image of passive technology is divided into two parts, that is, each eye receives not an FHD image, but an image in a lower resolution. The situation is similar with the update frequency. 120 Hz, because each eye receives a frequency of 60 Hz, and this is the minimum for comfortable viewing.
