Rating of TOP 5 Sharp TVs. Tips for choosing, their characteristics, pros and cons

What characteristics should you pay attention to when choosing a sharp TV?

It is worth noting! Technological advantages over competitors helped the Sharp brand win loyal fans:

  • Quattron . The color rendition of the image is carried out using four colors: red, green, blue, yellow (RGBY). This picture compares favorably in its realism with that produced by a standard three-color scheme (RGB).
  • X-gen . Significantly improves the quality of light transmission, allowing you to achieve an impressively bright and contrasting frame.
  • AQUOS NET+ . A service that includes more than 70 different widgets and allows you to surf the Internet without connecting to a computer.
  • Time Shift . Allows you to pause the broadcast and go away on business. The device will record everything you missed and show it as if you actually pressed stop on playback. Material can be recorded on both internal and external media.
  • Scanning Backlight 200 . Prevents image blurring when changing frames frequently. This is a kind of scanning backlight that produces a flickering frequency of 200 Hz, instead of the standard 100 Hz.

Sharp is expanding its AQUOS QUATTRON LCD TV family with the new LE924, LE824RU and LE814RU series.

The resolution of LCD panels of new TVs is Full HD (1920×1080). Frame rate – 200 Hz (LE924) or 100 Hz (LE824/LE814) with the ability to switch to a standard frequency of 50 Hz.

X-Gen LCD panels for Sharp AQUOS Quattron TVs are manufactured in Japan at Sharp's own 10th and 8th generation factories.

UV2A

When manufacturing LCD panels for new series of TVs, Sharp used its patented UV2A (Ultra Violet-induced Multidomain Vertical Alignment) technology, which allows you to precisely control the alignment of liquid crystal molecules in accordance with the direction of UV radiation. A unique feature of UV2A technology is the formation of a microstructure using a polymer film on the surface of the glass. Polymer chains that protrude above the surface can be photometrically oriented using ultraviolet rays. Using this grooved microstructure, the alignment of liquid crystal molecules can be controlled with very high precision. This system allows you to adjust the angle of inclination of liquid crystal molecules just two nanometers in size with an accuracy measured in picometers.

UV2A technology made it possible to create LCD panels

1) With a high static contrast ratio of 5,000:1, which is 60% higher than that of traditional LCD panels.

2) transmitting 20% more light.

QUATTRON – four primary colors – RGBY

The essence of Quattron technology is the addition of a fourth color - yellow (Y) to the three primary colors (RGB), which increases the number of subpixels by more than 30% from approximately 6 million to approximately 8 million (1920x1080x4) and, accordingly, increases the color gamut, allowing for more natural display sparkling gold or Caribbean blue.

Yellow now becomes one of the main colors, and it no longer needs to be obtained by a combination of red and green.

Adding a fourth, yellow subpixel significantly increases image brightness and reduces panel power consumption.

In order for the RGBY display to optimally display the color gamut from the RGB source, new TVs have an RGBY converter, which is an element of the LCD controller. This converter analyzes the input video signal in real time and automatically converts the yellow color information contained in the RGB code of the source into the RGBY code of the display.

EISA: QUATTRON technology – innovation 2010-2011

In the summer of 2010, the jury of the EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association), consisting of editors of 50 specialized magazines from 19 European countries, awarded QUATTRON technology the title “Innovation of 2010-2011”.

Reasons for awarding the title “Innovation 2010-2011” served:

Increased image brightness

Expanded color space

High Contrast

Reduced power consumption

30% more subpixels

LED lighting WHITE EDGE LED

New models use white LEDs as backlighting, located around the perimeter of the LCD matrix, which made it possible to achieve a TV thickness of less than 4 cm.

The design of the front panel of the LE924 and LE824 series TVs is absolutely flat, monolithic, “frameless”, i.e. the panel itself is on the same plane as the frame. The shape of the front panel of the LE814 series TVs is also flat, but not monolithic; the frame protrudes slightly above the plane of the LCD panel.

The control buttons are located on the front panel and are touch sensitive. When you touch them on the LE924/LE824 series, they automatically light up.

At the bottom center of the front panel there is a “pyramid” symbolizing the LED backlight. The illumination of the pyramid in the LE924/LE824 series can be adjusted through the menu: it can always glow; when the TV is on; in standby mode, or you can turn off the pyramid backlight.

The Sharp logo, located at the bottom left of the front panel, in the LE924/LE824 series may also light up whenever the TV is on, in standby mode, or not light up. The corresponding settings can be made through the menu.

NET+

In order to use the Internet, you must have a wired or wireless modem. With a wired connection, the modem and TV are connected by a LAN cable.

To wirelessly connect your TV to a modem (router), you need to connect a USB adapter (USB dongle) that supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n standards, included in the kit, to the USB input of the TV. This USB adapter supports WPA2-PSK (AES), WPA-PSK (AES) and WEP wireless network security technologies.

The Opera browser is used to access the Internet. In the browser window, using the virtual keyboard, you can type the address of any website.

home network

Sharp is a member of the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), so new models of LCD TVs support the DLNA standard, which allows you to combine home computers, televisions and mobile phones into a single digital network so that one of the devices can play media content (video, photos, music) recorded on another device.

The medium for transmitting media content is a home local network (IP network). You can connect DLNA-compatible devices to your home network (via a modem or router) either wired (Ethernet) or wireless (Wi-Fi).

TV Tuners

In addition to the SECAM analog TV tuner, there are also digital terrestrial (DVB-T), cable (DVB-C) and satellite (DVB-S/S2) TV tuners. Digital TV tuners allow you to receive standard (SD) and high definition (HD) programs with mono, stereo or surround sound encoded using the Dolby Digital Plus algorithm, which supports data rates of up to 6 Megabits per second.

Sound

There are additional surround sound options: “3D hall”, “3D movie”, “3D standard”, “normal”, “off”.

Left and right stereo speakers with a power of 10 W x 2 are located at the bottom of the case. At the rear there is a 15 W subwoofer. Through the menu you can turn on or off the “Surround” mode.

The proprietary Auto Volume Control system allows you to not hear changes in volume when watching commercials, as well as when switching between channels or different signal sources.

The Clear Voice system increases the volume of voice fragments, which allows you to hear monologues and dialogues better.

TVs of the LE924/LE824/LE814 series have an optical digital audio output for connecting an external amplifier (receiver).

Convenience

Instead of manually adjusting the image parameters in each specific case, you can use preset modes, which can be selected using the AV mode button on the remote control (dynamic fixed, dynamic, standard, movie, game, PC, custom, xvColour, auto).

New modes that were not there before are “auto” and “xvColour”. In Auto mode, the TV automatically selects the appropriate option from the AV Mode menu depending on the lighting conditions and the type of program you are watching.

The xvColour mode is only available when the “xvColour” signal is received via the HDMI input. The xvColour (or xvYCC) standard defines a color space that is 1.8 times larger than the traditional sRGB color space. The fixed “xvColour” mode should be used when connecting a video camera that records in AVCHD format or a PlayStation3 game console to the TV via HDMI.

Depending on the image resolution, new TV series allow you to select one of several widescreen modes through the menu or using the corresponding button on the remote control. When viewing a standard definition image (SD, Standard Definition), you can select one of six such modes (normal, 14:9 scale, panorama, full, 16:9 cinema screen, 14:9 cinema screen). When viewing a high-resolution image (HD, High Definition), you can select the “full” mode (display with an enlarged raster, the edges of the screen are cropped) or the “dot by point” mode (display of an image with the same number of pixels on the screen when receiving a signal with a resolution of 1080i/ 1080p). When viewing images from a computer connected to a TV, four widescreen modes are available: normal, cinema (for letterbox images; in some programs, bars may appear at the top and bottom of the screen), full, dotted.

If, when pre-setting the TV, instead of the “Home” option, you select the “Department Store” option, then the TV will begin to show you icons corresponding to certain capabilities with a text explanation in Russian.

The set includes a glass tabletop stand that allows you to rotate the TV 20 degrees to the left or right.

USB media player

You can connect a flash memory or an external hard drive to the USB input. This input can be used to view digital video, digital photos in jpeg format, including slide show mode, and listen to MP3 music.

The USB input supports the FAT/FAT32 file system, which allows you to play video files recorded in the DivX HD codec, avi, mkv, wmv, asf, mp4, mpg, mov, mpeg video formats.

TIME SHIFT

The time shift function is implemented using 8 GB of built-in memory, which allows you to record up to 150 minutes of video in standard definition (bit rate 6 megabits per second) or up to 60 minutes of video in high definition (bit rate 16 megabits per second), and then view the recorded story “time-shifted.” This function only works for recording digital programs and does not work for recording analogue television programs (SECAM) or when watching video from an external source.

PC connection

You can connect your computer to your TV using either an analog VGA (D-Sub) video cable or an HDMI digital video-audio cable. At the same time, video card output resolutions from 640×480 (VGA) to 1920×1080 (1080p) are supported.

Terminals

The new series models have four HDMI inputs, a component input and a SCART input, as well as a USB input.

The TV body is thin, so some inputs are made in a mini version with the corresponding adapters that come in the kit: AV tulips, SCART, component. Using an Ethernet terminal, you can connect your TV to your home network or the Internet.

Both series of LCD TVs support the AQUOS Link function, which allows you to control a BD player connected via the HDMI interface from the TV remote control. This function uses pin 13 of the HDMI connector, which transmits CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) information.

All four HDMI inputs support Silicon Image's InstaPort technology. This technology allows you to perform HDCP authorization only once when connecting the source to the TV. In the future, when switching to one of the HDMI inputs, you no longer need to wait from 4 to 7 seconds; switching to the corresponding source will occur in about a second.

For the successful functioning of TVs as part of a “smart home”, an RS-232C input is provided.

If new firmware for the TV software appears, they can be downloaded on the website www.sharp.ru by going to the “Products” section in the description of a specific model and opening the “Support and Downloads” tab.

Wall mount

For wall mounting, you can buy branded mounts separately:

AN-37AG2 + AN-37P30 – for 40-inch models

AN-52AG4 – for 46 inch models

Energy consumption

Sharp's new AQUOS Quattron TVs offer ultra-low power consumption. Quattron panels with AQUOS LED backlighting system are one of the most energy efficient LCD panels in the world. They comply not only with Energy Star Version 4, effective May 2010, but also with Energy Star Version 5, effective May 2011.

The remote control of the new models has an “Eco” button, with which you can further reduce energy consumption.

In addition to this, the new TVs have an ON/OFF key on the body, which allows you to reduce power consumption to almost zero in OFF mode.

All Sharp LCD TVs officially supplied to Russia have a full 3-year warranty. The service life is 7 years from the date of production.

The final assembly of the new models was carried out at the Sharp plant in Poland.
